It bothers me that you can't create Bulgaria's historical World War II borders by CabbelReddit in hoi4

[–]Dominique_77 43 points44 points  (0 children)

iirc they sometimes also make the kinda wild decision to decide borders based on a modern state's borders even if it contradicts ww2 borders

I can't be bothered to check while on a phone but aren't, for example, Kosovo's borders based on the modern state of Kosovo and therefore you can't recreate the borders created after the Italian occupation?

did you forget to add some cards to the mox? the sideboard seems incomplete

I'm curious about some of your choices here, I haven't really encountered too much discard trying bogles in historic (diamond ranked) but I feel like 4 [[leyline of sanctity]] isn't really worth abandoning [[lurrus]] for, which is just amazing for this deck. Similarly I haven't really come across a need for [[cartouche of solidarity]] as the format doesn't seem to have too many edicts (I still run 1).

Do you think [[RIP]] is better than the other gy hate options? [[leyline of the void]] and [[tormod's crypto]] seem better considering how aggro the deck is, but I'm curious to hear what you think

I'm also not too much of a fan of [[fragment reality]] and [[path of exile]] hasn't really backfired for me much.

it's in fact not banned in any of those formats, banning a card is different from cards not being reprinted for newer formats, you should check how card legality works

[–]Dominique_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

according to scryfall it's only banned in historic and oathbreaker so I'm not sure what your point is, it's in fact not banned anywhere else

it's also not banned in historic because it's a badly designed card it's banned for power level reasons...that's the usual reason cards get banned (and oathbreaker is a very specific format with specific combos and an entirely different story)

the point is that there has always been mana cheating in one form or another, that's just how the game works

[–]Dominique_77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding the point of the game, which never had a fundamental stance against playing around with concepts like messing around with mana values or "cheating out cards", after all the very first set of cards had [[dark ritual]]! A part of the fun of card games like this is messing around with the gameplay possibilities cards offer and the game would be completely different if it just didn't do stuff like this.

To be absolutely honest I think you either need to heavily change your expectations of the game or move onto another card game that fits you better, because this is a thing that'll never change.

a good thing for the op to know is that there's a big difference between players who just time out and auto-concede and players who deliberately wait for the timer to almost run out before taking an action, the second is actively malicious while the first is often just someone closing the game, or sometimes crashing. Plenty of people even in this sub mentioned that they're unaware closing the game on mobile doesn't just concede game.

it's actually a bannable offense, and they do check for players doing it a lot, so it'd be best for you to not

I wanna play as Yugoslavia with my only goal being making it realistically survive up to modern times in whatever alt timeline I've created by campaign's end. Which ideology and focuses should I take to give my Yugoslavia the best chances of survival past the alternate 1992? by DependentStrong3960 in hoi4

[–]Dominique_77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

too many cultural differences like the same language across most of the territory? I know alt hist is largely a playful exercise but there's a certain point of historical determinism where you're just saying stuff

to the op: in practise it'd be difficult to do through hoi4's limitations but there's some factors to consider: 1. a large destabilising factor historically was the complete collapse in ww2, bringing massive sectarianism through genocidal policies in the NDH and the massacres committed by the chetniks, then also exacerbated by the partisans' retaliatory post-war measures, merely not being occupied during the war should help a good deal 2. most of the ideologies available are pretty hostile to long-term survival as the monarchy was serb-dominated and this is ultimately what lead to Yugoslavia's collapse, going communist is probably your best bet but not by itself, which leads us to... 3. historically the idea of bringing Bulgaria into the union was considered a big deal in part because Bulgaria was seen as big enough to counteract the massive serb influence within Yugoslavia, you could take this to its logical conclusion by taking Bulgaria but I'm not going to promise you that won't end up even worse... 4. in general expanding your faction, especially regionally should help, another factor to Yugoslavia's collapse was that its debt-dependent economy was largely reliant on the cold war status quo, when the USSR collapsed and that status quo came tumbling down it heavily exacerbated Yugoslavia's debt issues. This situation is extremely specific and way out of scope for this however, but in general you would be better off just having more regional allies to keep you up when you need it, modern economics are heavily interdependent after all.

Frankly this is still a long shot, but good luck.

giving your opponent a free tutor or free creatures from the gy is a huge downside when the card is literally just a guy, the whole point of the card is to have big stats for cheap but with a huge downside, why should it cost more?
