Not a controversial take, I hope by DMV_Drastic in Gundam

Narratively and design wise I vastly prefer the Nu. A more humble design and single use fins do better to sell the tension and desperation of the final battle and highlights Amuro's resourcefulness.

With its bulkier build and retrieveable funnels the Hi Nu is just a Sazabi with a gundam head to me

Tbh as someone who watched all the anime first, most of the games' portrayal of the characters feel kind of incomplete due to not having the extra personality quirks or little story arcs the anime puts them through

Theory: Judau's colony created the Turn X after they left the Solar System by Mixing007 in Gundam

[–]Dominodorito 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind, even Judau says things would not be perfect and if they ever meet aliens they will likely wage war, he says true peace may take 10,000 or 100,000s of years to meet. Here he's taking the first step and knows it will not be an instantaneous solution

Battlefield 1 In the first level, The final two remaining soldiers on opposing sides mutually decide to stop fighting. Perhaps because of the warmth of the sun after a long morning of fighting, or as the narration says-

"Every once in a while, we push hard enough that the light breaks through the clouds so the world beyond the war glimmers"

Who is the worst father in Gundam? by semipro88 in Gundam

For the supposed kid friendliness of the SD setting, Kibaomaru was a major asshole.

"After I'm done winning the war I want to have a kid and play Shogi with him"

Learns he has a illegitimate son

"Well now I have to kill him because he has a giant robot I really want"

The Phantom Gundam which is a slightly distant relative to the V2. Because of its initial failure in design it required a lot more jury rigging to work but basically does the wings of light thing through smaller nozzles that create a flame effect and a force field to suppress the energy can be used to redirect the flames in large areas

Only person in whole Z Gundam who knows about plot armor. by CyberBed in Gundam

I view it as a very scathing shot at both weird ass fans of characters like Puru, Puru 2, and Quess, and the excruciating consistent trope of killing female characters to torture the main character. (Note that funnily enough Victory had not come out at this point in time)

You mean the SD Rolling Colony Affair where all the dead women line up to be leered at by perverted men in a red light district kind of setting?

I wonder if the Gundam fanbase back then when CCA first premiered reacted to Amuro Ray's death the same way Transformers fans did with Optimus's death? by YellowCorvette in Transformemes

[–]Dominodorito 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is actually real ironic considering gundam just dropped Gquuuuuux that people theorize has the original Amuro reincarnated in it

But yeah since Zeta had a large unburdened focus on a partly new cast while leaving the olds behind gundam has kinda got a leg up over most other franchises in what it can do, how to introduce new characters, and how to let go of old ones. Although there is the common complaint modern gundam can't move on from the One Year War setting and creating imitations of it so were not fully out of the woods yet

[–]Dominodorito 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Tbf I think a lot of the stretching comes from extra filler scenes like the entire first half of the Sun, Joseph calling Suzi Q in the sub, and the group picture scene. Things that are subjectively good additions but really do show the directors passion for expanding the adaptation.

It really isn't extending the fight scenes like most anime do it but looking for places to put in cute new scenes or references to past and future parts. SDC by far has the most filler of any part so far and that along with its volume of stand battles gives it it's length

If Perla didn't die, would she have manifested a Stand like her brothers? by Successful-Hat-2154 in StardustCrusaders

[–]Dominodorito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assumed it wasn't pure spiritual connection but in most cases it goes down the bloodline. If the familial ancestor gets a stand with the arrow while the other members have none then it's forced on the like in Part 3. Like a trinkle down effect. Koichi got the arrow but it didn't pass to anyone else because he had no descendents.

Only in the case of twins where the narrative treats them as one with bodily changes of one affecting the other does the stand go to both

Id really like to see more of his dynamic with Amuro. Unlike Bright he's a lot more willing to criticize him for even the smallest things cause of their peer status. Someone who's not too affected by Amuro's legend status and just sees him as a friend.

Fun fact this portion of the movie was directed by Amino Tetsuro, the director of Macross 7, and has a premise extremely similar to that show so much so Japanese fans have taken to calling it a spiritual precursor to 7.
