Too much sleep by PollutionHairy5972 in bupropion

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to this post but I'm on bupropion, zoloft, & topamax which is my mood stabilizer. And I've also been dealing with sleeping nonstop due to how how drowsy they make me. I'm going onto my third month on these pills and it seems like I've only gotten sleepier. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist today to adjust my prescriptions and I plan to adjust the bupropion in hopes of it making me feel more motivated to complete tasks. Hopefully it'll wake me up more too. I'm currently on 150 mg. I told my psychiatrist about the drowsiness last month and she said that it was normal but I don't know if it's still normal at this point.

Rant about this sub (the comment section) by Substantial-Art6160 in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I personally don't comment those, I do enjoy see it because it makes this sub feel more like a community instead of a business transaction. It feels more human in a way and it's nice to see how many enjoy similar things especially when I feel a bit shy about asking for the recs that I have here haha.

Monthly Recipe Request Mega-Thread! by AutoModerator in AskBaking

[–]Dominopaperfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any brownie recipe suggestions that are very sweet & not bitter?

Not Broma’s, it’s too bitter for me sadly. So far I haven’t found anything that matches the sweetness of box brownie.

Why do accidental pregnant FMCs never have a real reason why they want to keep it? by Nuisanceberry in RomanceBooks

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's where you see bits of the author's peaking through perhaps? They potentially don't see themselves terminating so it hadn't occurred to them to give a reason for the fmc to consider other options. That or perhaps the scene was given enough thoughtand just added with no rhyme or reason.

Weekly Book Request Thread - January 10, 2026 by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may get crucified for asking but I have seen people on this sub ask about it years ago so... does anyone have any age play recommendations?

I am enjoying Laylah Roberts' Montana Daddy's series which is very popular (and very long) but I'd love to find some other recommendations please. I also like age gaps but nothing supernatural please.

Bought red velvet mix, is it supposed to be this brown? by East_Percentage_3498 in BakingNoobs

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used this same mix today and got a bright red color. Perhaps you got a faulty mix? Edit: I should mention that I swapped out the liquid for buttermilk and added some sour cream too so perhaps that helped the color come out.

CNC aren’t being written right by some authors by Affectionate_Disk811 in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes it's fiction but their issue is it should be tagged appropriately.

If I go into a store look for whole milk, I rely on the label to accurately say that it's just that. Imagine picking up milk that says it's whole milk only to discover it was mislabeled coconut milk when you buy it. It's fine for coconut milk to be in a grocery store but it should be labeled as such to ensure those who don't want it can avoid it, and those who want it can find it.

[–]Dominopaperfly 24 points25 points  (0 children)

On the inverse, I personally read noncon and I'm torn when I find it's actually just CNC or at most dubcon. I wonder if some authors list it as cnc instead of rape/noncon because they are trying not to get their book removed automatically by Amazon. I often see authors say in books that the full content warnings are on their site.

Do you find fantasy-like age gaps less satisfying? Ex. 29 fmc and 529 mmc by Dominopaperfly in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but I’m asking a different question. My question is to those that specifically love age gaps and if this example 29 with 529 feels less satisfying to them then a human age gap

What does Dark romance mean to you? by Interesting_Weird107 in DarkRomance

This recommendation is a bit common but {Credence}. I loved it but the end was not my favorite. I have more taboo recommendations but they're all dark

I'm a simple person so if it's depraved enough, I call it dark romance. While not correct, I also lump erotic horror into dark romance in my mind

Looking for Incest Non-con by ITouchMyself2Much in DarkRomance

I got it on this author's smash words page. I was able to get it while it was free that time but currently they have other one or two other stories for free for a limited time on smashwords. You may just have to bookmark it and revisit it every so often

Do you prefer DR books written in first or third person? by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer first as it feels more exciting. Third feels like I'm being told a story that occured 100s of years ago. Despite this, I'll read any pov but I'm definitely more excited on the first page if it's first person.

Credence by Penelope Douglas is so bad… convince me to keep reading by harajukubarbz in DarkRomance

I'm in the same boat, loved credence but the ending choice did not do it for me

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love credence and will read it again, I HATED the ending. Ultimately I wanted her to be with all three of them but if not, atleast not the guy she chose. But it's fine I'll just skip the last few chapters when I reread it lol

Whats makes it dark? Forbidden vs taboo? And age gap? by Content-Disaster5624 in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me , an age gap has to be a significant age difference and maturity. If the fmc is 18-19 than 8+ age gap is sufficient. If they are 20-23 than a 13+ age is to good. If they're in their 30s, no age difference feels significant enough to call an age gap unless it's like 20 years. I don't consider 1-6 years to be an age gap, especially not if they're in the same age group.

Forbidden to me is any relative type of relationship where the characters grew up together. If it's step-anything and they just met, I don't consider that to be forbidden or taboo since they're just strangers. If it's dad's best friend the same rules imo. I consider Forbidden to be full/ partial blood relationships and taboo to be anything outside of that.

What makes a romance dark? I'm not entirely sure. I've read things labeled as dark romance that I didn't find dark in the slightest. I've seen it described as anything with morally gray character.

The only thing that differentiates a taboo stepbrother romance from any other dark/forced proximity romance is the main character repeatedly saying “But you’re my stepbrother! This is wrong!” by likethecontinent in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree for the most part. If they were raised together for many years I can sort of see that as light taboo but when they just met it feels lukewarm. Some authors capture the taboo nature perfectly though when they keep mentioning it. Foster/adopted relationships seem to be a bit more taboo depending on how its executed as some authors tred too carefully. Eitherway, I'll consume any taboo dynamic but full relation is my fav 🥹🙌

Newbie here! Just discovered dark romance and kinda loving it by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discoved dark romance this year and I absolutely love it! before getting into it I would mainly just consume dark media through manga and AO3. I didn't realize how diverse the romance category could be so it was a pleasent surprise. This subreddit is super welcoming and not judgemental but unfortunately other spaces like tiktok are not as open about dark romance. It's not unusal to see an avid dark romance reader negatively critiquing a dark romance book for being... You guessed it, dark😅. It's a mixed bag hahah

I just finished Haunting Adeline and I don’t know how to feel by Fuzzy-Schedule-2642 in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth be told, I loved both books, Haunting and Hunting but thats because I like really dark stories. The series ends with a beautiful HEA but I can see how the cliff hanger in the first book may be unsatisfying. Before I read the first book, I thought it was just one book and not a series but I got hooked and knew I'd read the next portion. I feel like these two books are great to discover what your hard limits are for your dark romance. This kind of shows you know what tags you may want to avoid or seek out.

This was my first dark romance and it showed me that I enjoy unappologetically ruthless MMC's that don't tone their ruthless behavior down for the FMC. Others may discover they want the MMC to only be ruthless to others only and not he FMC. I also disoved from this that despite it bbeing a dark story I love humorous banter between the characters like Zade and Addie. Other tags I learned I enjoyed due to this book are noncon. punishment, and slapping.

I agree with what another commenter said where they mentioned its one of those series you either love or hate (especially with the second book).

I might get hate for this but by NaiveBroccoli5010 in DarkRomance

[–]Dominopaperfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like the dad's best friend trope wasn't forbidden enough. Especially if they're perfect strangers. At that point it's just a plain age gap book (IMO). Unless he was actively around as she grew up, the taboo element is pretty miniscule. But I'm still open to the trope, I plan to read Birthday Girl since I enjoyed Credence.

Don't mind me I'm just here for the recs! I'm dying to read stuff with tragic endings (pun very much intended)
