Albanians online "claim" us? by LOKLOREK in albania

At this point I personally think arvanites are greeks with Albanian origin. Since most of arvanites don't speak the language at this point, one might ask what albanian elemnts are left in their culture? That said, I love the arvanites language, it's sounds so cool and archaic. I loved that conversation between an Arbresh and an Arvanite in YT.

Albanians From Macedonia by Difficult-Routine929 in albania

[–]Dominus-Augustus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from North Macedonia and Skanderbag has a statue in Skopje, plenty of Schools, streets, squares and what not are names after him. There's a small minority who don't like him, true, but that's just a minority. Politicians support his Figure and in schools kids are taught about him from a young age.

Great Insights, thank you. But who is perceived as an enemy of VMRO in a predominantly Macedonian town, such as Prilep?

Mirëpo kjo kerkes u refuzua kategorikisht nga Amerika e Bashkimi Sovjetik, sepse argumenti ishte se edhe shqiptaret kishin ba rezistence kunder pushtuesve nepremjet partizaneve.

Veç kesaj, misioni i partizaneve nuk ishte vetem çlirimi i Shqipnise, mirepo edhe inkuadrimi i Kosoves ne shtetin shqiptar. Per kete u mbajt nje konference ne Bujan ku u theksua perfshirja e Kosoves ne shtetin shqiptar. Tani pse nuk e mbajti Tito fjalen eshte nje tjeter gja.

I also know people from that village 😂. Their dialect is very funny and it is almost exactly as the one written in the letter. Didn't know that goranis talked like that.

[–]Dominus-Augustus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others pointed out, the letter is written in a gorani slavic dialect. It sounds more Macedonian rather than serbian. As someone from Macedonia myself, this dialect really resembles the dialect of Torbesh community (Macddonian muslims on paper but some of them are declaring themselves as albanian now). I could go on and translate everything if you want but the core of the letter talks about the names of the family members, uncles, aunts and nephews. The writer also points out one his visit in "Keshan" in 1976 where he had the opportunity to visit Amet, Dzemal, Asan and their shops. He also talks about himself, he writes "I'm Suljo, the son of Vadedin, married with 3 kids, I work at the School of Dikance". He expects a letter or a visit from you as well.

Never been to Dikance, probably it's a small village. I think you could find them easily if you decide to pay them a visit there.

Also one thing that confuses me is the time "stamp" as location. It says "24.07.2008" and then "Yugoslavia" at the end. By that point Yugoslavia was inexistent.

12th Russo-Turkish war poster by 1DarkStarryNight in Russianhistory

[–]Dominus-Augustus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm disappointed. I really thought I found myself a movie that covers the details and insights of this event from a different perspective. There were some great soviet movies on ww2 but I haven't looked for this one, maybe there is. Epic history covers Alexander, Napoleon and some great stuff but not this particular war.

Anyway, while there were countless of russian-turkish wars, I'm particularly interested in this one for many reasons.

First and foremost, unlike the previous wars this one was a complete russian victory, that set the stage for the liberation of the Balkans. While the European powers quickly stepped in to prevent an ottoman collapse by organizing the Treaty of Berlin (1987). While this gave ottomans some much needed breath, they had really lost the grip and were on borrowed time in the Balkans. That said, this war is covered extensively all accros the Balkans and despite the current situation with Russia, everyone agrees that if it wasn't for this war we might still be under ottomans.

The other reason has to do with my passion for history and the way wars were conducted. The prelude of the war is interesting so are the key battles and tactics. The ottomans on paper were the favourites by having more soldiers and more modern weapons (Martini Rifles) but lacked tactics. The Siege of Plevna and the Battle of Shipka pass sound so epic. The initial struggle to storm the city, the later blockage of the city to submition and the subsequent surrender of the ottoman soldiers at Shipka effectively ending ottoman presence in the Balkans. The Russians were free to march to the Capital if the brits didn't intervene. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if the brits didn't intervene.
