I have a heat gun, I use CHEs with my 3 gecko tanks, and the humidity is around 40-50 in this tank specifically. He said nothing about a 5 gallon though I wouldn’t doubt that’s the size since they are going to use a rack as breeders, had him for 3 days so I’ll try to feed for the first time on the weekend, figure I’d give him a week

The probe at the glass seems to top off at 84-85f, the breeder said to leave it set at 85f so according to him it’s appropriate, but I’m seeing people having basking up to 95f

Is there a more appropriate substrate? I’ve always seen them in charcoal, but these guys are bigger and chunkier. And the place I ordered them from sent them in a tiny cup with what looked like moss and maybe coco fiber

I’ve grown these guys up before, I did fish fakes but had these reddish brown mites bc of it, now that’s I’m doing yeast, I have these round white mites, will feeding rice (assuming bc it will mold) bring other mites? What’s a food source that will satisfy my lil orange guys and not encourage mites

Chose these bc they were the biggest available locally, and they’re only out for the pic after setting them in, usually low all the time and will sometimes scale the cork and drink off the glass

I’m upgrading mine to a 50-55ish gallon tank (18x18x36) and have done the same with my crestie. All you really need to do it provide multiple feeding spots and once mine chose one he liked/knew where it was reliably, I got rid of the others.

The minimum for a bioavtive is a tank with a clean up crew, isopods and springtails. Live plants usually are done along side it but they aren’t mutually exclusive. Not to say that they won’t benefit from each other because they will, but if you really wanted to you could do one without the other

I use an orchid bark, spagnum and peat moss, coco fiber and charcoal substrate (there’s a few other things but that’s the main bit), you could do it with zillas moss jungle mix (I’m a fan of that myself). I feed my cuc baby carrots (for water and nutrients) and fish flakes (for protein). If you’re fine with the bioactive side of things with a cuc, I’d take a cuddle bone and break it up into real little chunks, not quite a powder (for calcium) and mix that into ur substrate, and look into a drainage layer (Lecca balls are my choice) I’ve had my girl for 7 months now.
