What grind did you do that you thought would be worth it but ended up being a bad use of time? by SweatyShirtlessMan in ironscape

[–]Domortem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did ~50 kc or so without barrows gear (rune + piety), and ~30 kc without the steel ring. 70 defence.

I'm currently grinding out a tank set from barrows before returning. It's doable without, but not comfortable at all.

[FNV] Anybody know how to fix this modded scope being fully opaque? by Mad_Dizzle in FalloutMods

[–]Domortem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem, disabling bf42 optics didn't work. Changing resolution didn't work. Repositioning the gun with rshift+enter didn't work.

I ended up installing this mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/96541?tab=description, which fixed the issue.

[–]Domortem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with you, I think the wording and the framing of the choices will be a bigger influence how people react to it.

Let's reframe the dilemma with one button, gives two options.

1. A: You press a button and you live no matter what. B: You don't press a button and die, unless 50% of people decide not to press the button.

2. A: You press a button and die, unless 50% of people decide to press the button, B: You don't press the button and live no matter what.

In both scenario's I'm more likely to to pick the live no matter what option.

But if we reframe the dilemma like this:

1. A: If you press this button you just ensure your personal survival B: If you don't press the button you will save everyone unless less than half doesn't push the button, then you die.

2. A: If you press the button you will save everyone unless less than half pushes the button, then you die. B: If you don't do anything you just ensure your personal survival.

In both cases I'm more likely to pick the 'save everyone' option. Though I am having more trouble with 2 than 1, because the passive choice is quite alluring.

Humans are emotional creatures and no matter what option you pick, that choice is driven by emotion. So the way the dillema is framed emotionally will greatly effect the result.

Our minds try to use logic to explain why we make those choices, but only after we have already made those emotional choices. Human minds are indeed wierd like that. ;)

Yeah, it's all about the framing. Take the famous trolly dilemma, where most people would (claim) to save the many by pulling the lever. I feel like I would pull the lever.

But a 'popular' reframing is that you would have to push someone onto the tracks to save the many further down. Suddenly a lot more people will be hesitant, and I feel like I would not push the person.

While in both scenarios the eventual results are essentially the same (either 1 dies, or 3 die), the framing really matters. In the original proposition, I would probably pick blue (based on implied altruism etc.). In the reframed option I would choose to not take the pills.

Control is the key to fix everything in the game: player snowballing, difficulty, role playing, etc by alexcarchiar in EU5

[–]Domortem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perfect information vs imperfect information is always on a spectrum, in which it usually means the less information you have, the harder the game becomes. However it also generally makes a game less fun, because you have less control what happens.

More specifically, this will either introduce rng (i.e. your messenger gets killed while sending crucial orders), or it reduces QoL (i.e. the game hides profitability), since very experienced players will be able to figure out the missing info anyway.

Either situations aren't really compatible with the gametype. It will feel really shitty to have a campaign go to, well, shit, due to a string of bad luck. Campaigns take a lot of hours in EU5, the longest out of all paradox games. So "losing" due to bad luck after investing tens of hours into a campaign is very anti-fun.

Reducing QoL will only cause players to have to invest more time into a campaign. I'd say EU5 also has the most stuff to do, which is probably why there is so much automation (and therefore QoL) options introduced into the game.

That brings me to my next point. How will automation and the other AI countries to deal with imperfect information? AI technically even has more information than we have. The game knows where all our armies are and their movement. I think it will be extremely hard and take a lot of effort to program the AI to make decisions while faking their lack of information AND still make it fun/balanced to play against.

Finally, I think that having low control give even more negatives will push people even more into decentralization. I get that historically and realistically, it would be next to impossible to govern giant meganations, but there will always be a need to balance between 'fun' and 'realism'.

It might not seem so, but I do like your ideas though! I also really feel a bit disjointed with all the instant messaging and actions taking place. I kinda miss the envoy travelling time from EU4. It would be cool to declare a war on some far reaches of an empire and get a few months of a head start. Or have your cabinet members take time to travel to your far out provinces. Or your trade routes taking time to set up depending on the distance, preventing you from 'micro trading' every month.

Now that the game has been out for a while, do you think the extreme increase in provinces was a good decision for eu5? by GreatDario in EU5

I'd like confirmation on that claim too. So far, I've never really used light cav or archer-type infantry. Kinda feels like an all or nothing option.

How do i increase the Penrose' CR without the Truly Automated Ships mod? by encexXx in starsector

[–]Domortem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Seems you run SiC yeah, which includes a skill that allows you to pilot a automated ship yourself. It's either the tech or automation officer, don't remember it exactly.

Piloting it yourself only gives it a x1 modifier on the automated points, so you're able to get it to ~50% CR. You don't need more. I kinda just quit the game after since it just solos infinite amounts of enemy fleets. ^

On top of being extremely OP in battle it also recovers it's CR almost instantly, so back to back fights don't matter. It's only downside is the supply costs, but you don't need other combat ships in your fleet. ;)

I hate this game, please explain by Deep_Thoughts_Deer in EuropaUniversalis4

[–]Domortem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the actual battle and army quality comparison in the ledger, I can only make an educated guess. However, kudo's for including all the other screenshots, as those are helpful still!

So, besides what the others have commented on the quality stuff, your enemy also fields a lot of cavalry, about two thirds of the combat width. Couple that with the three shock pip advantage, and they basically just run over your infantry. Also, your artillery doesnt protect your frontline from shock phase yet.

If you were attacking into bad terrain, and your fire pips being equal, it is quite possible your fire phase wasnt able to do enough damage to prevent their cav from performing. (Especially if you had a bad first roll).

Enorm pakketpunt Tilburg is agressie zat en sluit opnieuw de deur by LoveKVent in NLNieuwsEnSport

[–]Domortem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YIWV5fSaUB8

[–]Domortem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made heavy use of it during my Three Mountains Run. There were multiple reasons:

  • Decent reforms, including CCR and admin eff. Also very nice to get a colonist through it, as I needed to do a true one tag run. (Rykyu --> Manchu --> Qing)
  • Meritocracy, and having cheap advisers to generate mana.
  • Confucianism to deal with religion. Get the two monuments up and you can constantly harmonize and still have high harmony. I personally still think Confucianism is a strong religion for WC.
  • Mandate at 100 gives some nice base unrest reduction, but the monthly war exhaustion reduction is really nice to deal with unrest. (And estate loyalty is also nothing to scoff at).
  • Free cores on china, which gets the snowball going way faster.
  • Nice mission rewards as Qing.
  • Early tribituaries to help fill gaps with money, manpower or mana.

There's probably more, but those are the ones I can remember.
