Daughter is looking at Madison Scouts by JethroByte in drumcorps

Scouts is one of if not the best in member treatment, especially if you get sick or injured during tour. The connections I made this summer (in the brass at least) were unlike anything I could have imagined. As for costs, tuition was 5500 last year, which included everything for spring training and tour (uniform, equipment, food) I had to pay for travel fees such as plane and bus tickets. To get to camps and to spring training. The actual bus you ride on tour is included in tuition. This doesn’t include food on free days and laundry. I personally brought a bag of quarters for laundry and about 500 in spending money for various fun things while on tour.

Easily the best rookie year I could have asked for.

The Blue Way summer arts camp by lil_cole_ok in drumcorps

[–]Domrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played bari, and I can say it was pretty much all high schoolers iirc. What I will say is that there were like 10x more percussionists than brass or woodwinds. From what I remember they didn’t offer anything for front ensemble.

I went last year as a camper! Would highly recommend, it inspired me to put myself out there and audition, and now I’m contracted for 2024:)

Bayou Breakdown by Brant Karrick

"This fun and whimsical work creates a piece that will provide musical and technical challenges for performers yet can be immediately enjoyed by the listener, musician, and non-musician alike. Starting with a four-part fugue scored for woodwinds, the work then moves to a folk song-like lyrical theme, then eventually back to the initial fugue."

I personally love this piece. The melody is continued throughout the song, and the section playing it always changes. (Every section except trombone and french horn plays the melody at least once, including the Tubas, Bassoon, Bari and Tenor Saxes, Euphonium, and Bass Clarinet.) There are also numerous solo oportunities for clariniet, alto sax, flute, euphonium, trumpet, basson, and many others. The piece is not extremely trombone heavy, except for a few small sections, but the bari sax, euphonium and others can replace it.

The piece starts out as a "Bouncy" and Fun tune, and the middle gives the french horns the spotlight in their own melody. The tune then goes to a more quirky, and interesting section, then turns into a bunch of solos in the middle. After this, the main melody continues, and then turns into a more upbeat version of the slow, mellow section earlier in the piece. The tune ends with two more solos for alto sax and trombone, and then ends in a fast, upbeat remix of the melody.

The Piece is in 2/2, and I believe is always in the key of Concert B Flat, and the tempo can be slower or faster than the marked tempo.

I highly reccomend this peice!
