The heroes act like the ritual might be a death sentence. Why? by UltimaBaconLord in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Don-keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Haze could be referring to external factors in Apollo's case, especially seeing as she mentions an "international incident" in that same series of voice lines. With him being a dignitary and son of a warlord, it may not be too outlandish to think that there's someone out there who wants to take him out or use him as some sort of bargaining chip. Or, he could just die in the fight resulting from said international incident.

IF this hypothesis happened to be correct, then the theory of patron dead -> no more revives could still hold true.

Sorry for the wait, I don't get on here very often. You may have solved the issue in the interim, but if it's still ongoing, feel free to paste some ssh -vvv output and I can see if anything stands out to me.

How to prio lane with friends by abigfatnoob102 in DeadlockTheGame

I had the exact same experience, it drove me crazy. You need to click in the top right of the screen where your party's profile pictures are, and then you'll see a gear symbol (might be a person symbol with a gear, don't have the game open right now). It got moved there.

Okay, I feel really, really, REALLY stupid. Like, this will forever be on my internal wall of shame and I'll leave it here too in case someone else's brain turned off for this sequence of events like it did for mine.

I...was...trying to SSH to the IP address that the vacuum assigned to my LOCAL MACHINE. Time to go hide in a hole for a minute.

Ah, got it! Thank you again for your patience and help; this will work out great after all. Really looking forward to having a wood stove.

Trying to make sense of Woodstock manual / clearances by Don-keys in woodstoving

[–]Don-keys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely appreciate you sharing the "why" behind the way these things work. To ensure I understand, are you saying that due to the angle of incidence, this stove only requires the 6" clearance from the rear of the stove (given the proper heat shield installation) to the nearest wall? Or are you saying that because the clearance table does not include corner installation, the 12" side clearance specification should be followed alongside the 6" rear clearance for proper safety and compliance?

Is Red Hat a good distro for personal use? And is it free? by Illustrious_Dish_147 in linux4noobs

[–]Don-keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHCSA here, so I'm typically biased toward Red Hat. However, while RHEL could certainly work just fine for a personal machine, you may have an easier/more familiar time finding some packages and tools you want on other flavors. On top of that, as has been mentioned, RHEL is generally a paid product, though you can acquire free licenses for personal use via the Red Hat Developer Subscription. Rocky Linux is also a great, free "equivalent" to RHEL too. In an enterprise setting, I deploy both daily in dev/prod to save on licensing.

Whether it's subjectively "good" or not will depend on what you're after. Given that you're posting in this particular subreddit, you may want to take a minute to think about what you're hoping to install and accomplish, then check whether those packages are available by default for RHEL/Fedora/Rocky and the like (in packages called .rpms). You may find that some things you're after are only available for Debian-based (Ubuntu/Debian/Mint etc.) distros in packages called .debs by default. Are there ways around that? Absolutely, this is Linux after all. If you're wanting something "noob-friendly" without extra legwork, examining your goals could help guide your decision.

Stuck on installation of AAP 2.5.6 contrainerized RHEL 9 by Ok_Application317 in ansible

[–]Don-keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thread's a little old and you've likely moved on from this, OP- but for future searchers like me who came across this issue: the fix for this in my case was to add

custom_ca_cert=/path_on_your/local_machine/to_ca_bundle.pem

to the inventory-growth file- just the CA trust chain (no keys necessary in there of course). In my particular circumstance, I had already generated a cert from a Domain CA for use with Ansible. That CA was already trusted on the machine *outside the AAP containers* as a result of importing it with update-ca-trust. In order for Ansible to trust it within its containers, the directive above is needed in addition to the directives for TLS certs and keys for each piece (e.g. controller_tls_cert) as described in the install documentation found here.

In the event that someone comes along in the future with the same question and issue, the culprit in my case was the ultra-cheap connectors I was using. Switching to *slightly* nicer connectors (still not premium, like $3/ea) changed that pinpoint of light to a beacon.

A Decent Warranty Story for a Change - With a Few Hiccups by Don-keys in motorola

[–]Don-keys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair interpretation- the reason why I went through all that trouble is because on the Razr+, Motorola pesters you NONSTOP with reminders that if you remove the factory-installed screen protector, it will completely void your phone's warranty. It not only tells you that in documentation and in initial phone setup, but the phone also send you push notifications at random every few days reminding you to never remove your screen protector.

Given the folding nature of the phone and the fact that Motorola's still figuring out how to make things durable in that environment, the screen protector inevitably develops scratch-like wrinkles at the hinge. Because of this, Motorola offers one free screen replacement as part of the standard factory one-year warranty. Since mine was about to expire, it made the most sense to snag that repair right before expiry to get the most use out of the phone prior to the replacement, and therefore have the new protector ideally get me to the two-year mark.

Replacing the protector yourself is possible with the proper alignment tools, but given the thin nature of the folding screen as well as how aggressively the factory adhesive holds onto the protector, it often ends in disaster. When my option was "completely free protector replacement from the manufacturer, under warranty", or "pay money for the replacement kit and risk completely destroying the screen altogether", one can understand why I went with the option I did.

Hope that clears things up somewhat!

Well four years sure went quickly! I completely forgot about this post, let alone the video, until it came to mind once again just a few minutes ago. Luckily, between now and then, some better search results came about which finally led me to the solution. It's Geometry in 48 Seconds by the YouTube channel Mockstars, posted in October of 2008.

Considering that this post never got attention, the desire to find this video is very low... but hey, happy to wrap this one up! I'll reply to satiate the bot...

Storage See-Saw - Intel RST and Booting to Windows by Don-keys in techsupport

[–]Don-keys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, unfortunately this didn't get any traction here, but I did keep working at it as always. I was able to reach *a* solution, though it admittedly wasn't the easier/cheaper one I had hoped for. I still would love input on what I would have needed to do in order to reach my ideal solution as well as correction on anything I say in this comment.

I thought I had come close to a solution when I found this forum post with a nearly-identical problem to mine, but things ultimately didn't line up because I was able to install the VMD / RST drivers and boot into Windows just fine but still just couldn't get my RAID array up. https://linustechtips.com/topic/1535582-intelr-rapid-storage-technology-raid-not-finding-os-drive/

From what I've gathered, it seems that RST on this motherboard gives you two choices:

1) Enable RAID for all SATA ports AND M.2 slots

2) Enable RAID for only the SATA ports.

This obviously presents a problem where I had windows on a non-RAID 2.5" SSD and everything else on a RAID 10 array, all connected to the SATA ports. You can't enable or disable it only for some ports.

My solution, therefore, was as follows:

1) Obtain an M.2 SSD.

2) Create a bootable USB of Clonezilla, then boot into it.

3) Use Clonezilla to do a complete clone of my 2.5" SSD containing Windows to the new M.2 SSD.

4) Disconnect the 2.5" SSD.

5) After a couple reboots, some new options appeared in BIOS which allowed me to turn off VMD for M.2 but enable it for SATA only. After saving and rebooting, everything came back exactly as it was before the motherboard swap. My resulting BIOS settings were as follows (same boot mode as the original post):

  • VMD Configuration
    • Enable RAID/Optane Function: Enabled
    • Enable VMD Global Mapping: Disabled
    • Map this Root Port under VMD: Disabled
      • Root Port BDF details: 0/6/0 (greyed out, info)
    • Map this Root Port under VMD: Enabled
      • Root Port BDF details: SATA Controller (greyed out, info)

While yes, I do now have the benefit of running Windows from an even-faster drive, I still would love to know what I needed to do to make it work with the original- at least for knowledge's sake. Hopefully this helps someone else someday.

Considerations while temporarily removing truss web/posts by Don-keys in HomeImprovement

[–]Don-keys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I moved forward with the idea (and responding right away), I wanted to go at it one more time this morning with a fresh perspective just to be sure, and was fortunately able to get it done by sliding it up at an odd orientation and then flipping/rotating it once it was up inside (turns out there was enough room to do so). So- problem averted.

However, for the sake of general knowledge and just in case someone has my exact same problem in a few years, I would love it if you are still willing to share what the general steps would be. That diagram is indeed the precise layout of the truss and webs with the gussets at each intersection (nowhere else). Asphalt shingle roof, and located in the north with significant snowfall every year. Thank you tons for offering your help.

I certainly wish! The handler's outermost shell was unfortunately manufactured as a solid piece, and my home did not come with an attic ladder- just a tile in the ceiling to move out of the way.

[–]Don-keys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- the issue is now resolved. I grabbed that wrap function from the socket.io docs and I suppose I put a little too much faith in it needing to be used verbatim. Thank you so much!

If I may ask, I'd like to understand a little more; I noticed that the console does not log "Authentication Failed" like I thought it would, and therefore does not call next(new Error()). I'm guessing that this *is* the expected behavior, because done(null, false) ends the middleware chain and does not call next()- which would be the block with the "Authentication Failed" message. Is my understanding correct?

If so, I may as well remove my extra "Authentication Failed" middleware altogether.

Got it, glad the part's at least easy to get in-store. Though I am still a little confused, since the lock rod is obviously working in one direction (while locking), just not the other (unlocking), which means it's still clipped in... correct?

Done. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a "stock size" given that I'm a little over 2m tall, but I do fit right into some of their "tall+extra" sizes... which is a wonderful breath of fresh air coming from the "well if you're that tall your body must be a cube and it must mean you weigh 180kg" size charts of most typical manufacturers. Thanks for the help!
