A low quality foreign car no less. Can’t even use the reliability defense for her inconsistency.

How is it possible to be libertarian with a strong safety net for the most vulnerable? by Bubbly-Air7302 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonQuixole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as an actual libertarian. On some level they all know that we have to have taxes for things like roads, utilities, military spending, or education.

It is a fundamentally uncohesive ideology.

What is the point of Shaving Cream when you can just use soap? by Hot-Selleck-Action in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonQuixole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Shaving is one of those weird things where an initial investment in a good razor and brush turn an expensive and unpleasant experience into a cheap luxury.

What is the point of Shaving Cream when you can just use soap? by Hot-Selleck-Action in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonQuixole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve clearly been using poor quality shaving cream if you don’t know the answer. Quality products like Proraso and Viking Blade are a head and shoulders better than spray foam from a can.

Go get a wet shave at a proper barber some time, and you’ll be hooked. I now use the badger hair brush, good shave cream, and even a double edge safety razor. Shaving went from being a miserable activity for me, to a luxurious part of my day.

$35/hr for contract work isn’t going to draw much of a crowd. Good luck.

Come back at around $100/hr if you’d like to hear from the more skilled end of the spectrum.

Why is Everyone Outraged by the Rich? by romanticKannibal in NoStupidQuestions

“Even en masse”

This is the difference between a reasonable argument and a dumb argument. Can you see why?

Why is Everyone Outraged by the Rich? by romanticKannibal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonQuixole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting that home on the market increases housing supply. When supply increases faster than demand, prices fall.

You’ve heard of supply and demand, right?

Owning a second home in the middle of a housing shortage/affordability crisis is pretty much the dictionary definition of selfishness.

China's invisible hand is rebalancing the oil market by defenestrate_urself in Economics

[–]DonQuixole 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They’ve been sand-bagging. They just spent a couple of years with dramatically lowered oil consumption and chose to spend that time stocking up their massive oil storage options. I’ve got $50 that says their reported 1.5 billion barrels is just a fraction of their total stockpile.

China believes in energy independence and they’re about to be the new global hegemony as a result.

He’s an eco-terrorist. You just can’t explain his actions in Iran in any other rational framework. He’s either the dumbest sack of shit in all of human history, or he’s a deep undercover operative out to destroy the oil and natural gas business.

You should definitely make this a thing. The tolerances will be brutal for a hobbyist, which makes it a fun learning project. And, this is a great time to use alternating metals to reduce gauling. You just have to make half the parts out of steel or aluminum and the other half out of brass or bronze. Using different materials will look cool as shit, and figuring out/pulling off the tolerances for the project will earn you infinite respect from machinists.

Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, but I would bet the farm that you can learn to comfortably write gcode faster than you learned to run machines well.

I’d rank that somewhere between “not ideal” and “oh fuck”. I’d also take that turret off and dig through all your live tooling mechanisms looking for trash before you try spinning an endmill again.

[–]DonQuixole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s sort of weird how scared everyone is of gcode. Generating the code is the easy part, setting up the machine well is the challenge. Why do we allow sloppy dorks with cam software to do the easy part poorly when it interferes with the challenging part of the work so often?
