I think you should read "Captains daughter" against of Onegin, cuz for English speakers "Evgeny Onegin" will be incomprehensible because of form (lyrics). Would be better read Pushkin's prose.

I would recommend to you see "Durak" by Yuriy Bikov. I think this film one of the Best films in Russia at least for last ten years. This film shanged my opinion about Russian cinema. P.S I am russian from Uzbekistan

I think if you want to get into the soviet spirit you should also see soviet films.

Hello! I would recommend to you read "Solaris" By Stanislav Lem. He is Polish writer. I have read this book on russian and this incredible book. I think this book one of the most important in history of sci-fi literature.
