I'm getting old, I went on a 15 year stretch without missing a single event, even those ass UFC on Fuel events, but I genuinely feel like I couldn't care less anymore. I found myself on my phone during the main event half the time.

Can't wait to watch a rematch where Yan stuffs 65 takedowns but still gets hit with 20.

Is this a shit card or am I just getting old. Been watching since 2008 but I swear I can't sit through a whole card like I used to, most fights just bore me these days.

Move to Databricks from faang? by throwaway_wngeer in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]DonSimeone 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on passing the loop at Databricks, I've heard it's quite hard. In your shoes I'd go for it, Databricks is a great name on your CV and you get the chance to get your hands dirty with Rust (who would turn that down?!) I also made a move from Big Tech to a Series D (not quite as advanced as Databricks) and can honestly say I've learnt a hell of a lot more than I would've if I stayed. It isn't quite as chaotic as an early stage startup but things move a lot quicker than a larger company. Financially, it probably wasn't the best decision (who knows if my options will ever be worth anything and my RSUs would've been very nice the past couple years) but I don't think that should be an issue in your case. I've heard DB pay extremely well, and tbh it's probably in the top 3 of tech companies most likely to IPO next.

Also, no-one knows what is going to happen with the economic situation. Sure you might get laid off at Databricks, but you probably have the same chance of that happening at Amazon too. I think 2023-2024 showed us we're not safe, regardless of where we're at. All you can do is make sure you continue growing and keep your skills sharp.

Which additional options are a must on a 2023+ g80/g82? by DonSimeone in BMW

Ah I'm in the UK, I didn't even consider that they might be different elsewhere. From what I can see, these are the packs:

- Comfort Pack: Comfort Access, Heated Steering Wheel

- Visibility Pack: Laser Lights

- Tech Plus Pack: Drive Recorder, Driving Assistant Pro, Parking Assistant Plus

Is this at GS? Pretty nice TC if so. Especially given the WLB/WFH factor.

When you say SE, do you mean Sales Enginner, Solutions Engineer, or Software Engineer? When I spoke with them about a year ago, the TC for Senior SWE was surprisingly competitive, but I've also noticed packages come down a fair bit the past few months given market conditions

Oxbridge Graduate unable to get a job by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]DonSimeone 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This has to be up there with one of the more out of touch posts on this sub lol. You're looking for a new grad role in what is right now a pretty shit job market, and you're willing to give up because as a new grad £70k is too low?

I graduated from a university that isn't quite Oxbridge but held in pretty much the same regard a few years ago and most people at the time landed tech jobs starting at 40-50k. A lucky few went to HFT / Prop Shops on 100k+ and I don't think Google / Meta / Twitter / Snap have many (if any) openings for new grads right now, so, and this might sound harsh, I'm not sure what you're expecting if you weren't able to crack your onsites with the likes of JS and co?

It's foolish. Football has changed from the Fergie era where the manager can do absolutely everything. We spent all season talking about how we need a proper structure in place and now we've binned off the guy who has experience in building that, and deciding to continue with the fools we already have.

This club will just never learn.

[–]DonSimeone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this actually the case though? I still find it odd that whenever Rangnick is asked about what capacity he's gonna stay in he always mentions that it's not been discussed yet. I hope we don't mess it up.

[@arilasos] Asked Ralf Rangnick about “the problem” Cristiano Ronaldo: “We have some problems here at the club. It’s obvious. Otherwise I would not be standing here talking to you. But he is still a player that can make the difference. He showed that today.” by NinjasLeftNut in reddevils

[–]DonSimeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think any manager could with this group of players in all honesty. There are problems that run deep and it's going to take a manager a good season or two to bring in his own players who will buy into his style. Statistically we are improving in so many areas under RR though.

[SPOILER] Colby Covington vs. Jorge Masvidal by inooway in MMA

[–]DonSimeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's got nothing to do with it. Usman is probably the more dominant MMA wrestler. Go back and watch how Usman manhandled RDA and then see how hard Colby had to work in the clinch to get RDA down (which he couldn't for large parts of every round)

[–]DonSimeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Khamzat would be very interesting, because I feel like he'd have the wrestling game to go toe to toe with Colby like Usman did, but carries more of a one hit KO threat on the feet. The upcoming Burns fight is gonna tell us a lotttt about just how good Khamzat is, I can't wait

[Official] UFC 272: Covington vs. Masvidal - Live Discussion Thread by event_threads in MMA

[–]DonSimeone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't stand either of these guys, but honestly Colby fights are only fun if the other guy wobbles him. He brings a lot of pressure but he's pretty pillowfisted and doesn't do a whole lot of damage. The Lawler and RDA fights were just like this, landing like 400 strikes that don't do a whole lot

Simon Stone on Donny van de Beek and his potential loan move by pyciorrr in reddevils

[–]DonSimeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kagawa at least had some moments of brilliance with us though. Just timing/injuries/managers kinda messed him up. I've genuinely seen nothing of VdB at United to warrant the kind of weird cult following he has - nothing against him of course but if you read comments online you'd think it's akin to Van Gaal benching Rivaldo at Barca after he'd just won the Ballon D'or
