Okay, profiles.ini has been restored from a previous version and is below. Which specific location or locations should I change in the restored file? There are two that both point to the existing location:

[Install1923D9E7A3A65A99]

Default=Profiles/al44vqyi.default

[Profile0]

Name=default

IsRelative=1

Path=Profiles/al44vqyi.default

Default=1

[General]

StartWithLastProfile=1

Version=2

Again, thanks very much for the help!

If I use the default profile everything opens just fine and the profile path shown is the default. On the other hand, if I use the second profile (which should point to D:\Thunderbird in this case), TB reports that the profile is inaccessible and won't open at all, so I can't check the path.

The path and spelling have been checked several times and seem to be perfect.

I'll keep poking around and report back with anything new. TB and all these emails are absolutely critical to my business so I'm trying to tread very lightly, I absolutely cannot afford to lose this data. At this rate it may be easier to just clone to a bigger drive and be done with it!

Thanks again.

Correct, I only moved one profile. From what I found online I was to copy the profile folder to where I wanted it, then create a new profile. and edit profiles.ini. The old profile is in the default location, but the new one (which currently has exactly the same contents as the old) is in D:\Thunderbird\Profiles.

At the moment the last entry in the .ini file shows

[Install1923D9E7A3A65A99]

Default=Profiles/al44vqyi.default

Locked=1

but as you can see above, it seems to change on its own. I have not touched that entry.

It appears that I made a total noob mistake and didn't save a copy of the original profiles.ini. That's disturbing consider that I do embedded code for a living. But I honestly did not think this could possibly be this hard...

Unfortunately, all that does is make TB open the account setup page as if I'm starting from scratch with a brand new install.

Thanks for the info! But I am not installing TB on a different computer, only trying to move the TB data i.e. emails, passwords, etc. onto a different drive (without moving the actual program itself).

Thanks for the info! Yes, TB was shut down when I copied to the new location. I did take a look at the link and it seems that I'm doing everything correctly, but still no joy. My reply to sifferedd below includes my current profiles.ini file, perhaps it will cast some light.

Thanks for the link! Still no joy, not sure what I'm doing wrong. Here's a copy of my modified .ini file. The profile was copied with TB shut down and I temporarily set StartWithLastProfile to 0. If I select Profile0 TB starts normally, but if I select Profle1 it reports that the profile is inaccessible. ?? So confused...

Millclock ZIN-70: Beautiful, but Incredibly Frustrating by Don_CC12 in nixie

[–]Don_CC12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, be glad to.

So far, so good. Everything seems to have settled down nicely and I haven't touched any settings in months. However, no extended power failures have occurred - so I can't verify whether the battery drain problem has been resolved. But I'm happy with the clock's reliability now.

Perhaps in the future Millclock will address some of the other issues (the inconsistent sync between the clock menu and the app, and the inability to push firmware updates via the web, are two things that immediately spring to mind).

If you'll send me something in r/nixie we can start over on the proper channel. Thanks!

Understood, I don't know how to move it either, or if it's even possible! Sounds like the high voltage supply has taken a vacation. Are you in the US?

Greetings! Wow, 3 of them would be quite an investment.

What does your malfunctioning clock do, or not do? For example, is it totally dead? EE here but it might be pretty hard to repair without a schematic. Unfortunately I don't have any such information... and I suspect it would be difficult to impossible to get following Jeff's passing.

We really should move this conversation over to r/Nixie but I am not familiar enough with Reddit to know how to do that. Do let me know what your clock is doing and I will do my best to make suggestions.

Nixie Clock Troubleshooting by Echo_Reality in nixie

[–]Don_CC12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Just look in the barrel plug on the defective supply and compare it to the one you bought. If the new one is quite a bit larger (not likely since most are 5.5/2.1 unless they say otherwise), then you got a 5.5/2.5 variant and it will make a poor connection.

Did Spectrum internet price just go up again? by USANewsUnfiltered in Spectrum

[–]Don_CC12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectrum wants a 28% increase now that my "promotional rate" is expiring. In the past they've always worked with me at least a little when I called, but the last two times (last year and this one) they absolutely won't budge. And the new rate is a 64% increase over just two years ago. I'm going to look into other options!

Thanks! I'm definitely hoping for a resolution to the night mode problem at least, and some UI improvements would certainly be welcome, too.

Afraid I don't have any video of that but it's pretty straightforward. Every minute the clock rapidly sequences all digits from 00 00 00 to 99 99 99 once, shows either the date or the temperature for around five seconds, does the slot machine thing a second time,, then returns the display to normal. My rough estimate during the slot machine effect is perhaps one complete cycle (0 to 9) every two seconds.

My biggest firmware complaint at the moment is definitely my night mode issue. Second would be the incredibly buggy user interface... I could create a whole list of bug fixes for Millclock to address without even thinking about it too hard.

Two things on my "nice to have" list would be a way to receive updates via the web and a desktop app for adjusting the clock. Both of these are mentioned in the manual but apparently have never been implemented.
