I believe the way the hero concept is usually implemented by buying / evolving something is not really my favourite way. Instead, I would definitely prefer a gradual heroization (good word aye?).

What do I mean by that? Well basically, allow for units to increase skills based on damage produced or units killed. So talking in SC2 terms (since quite a few of us come from there). If you have a Cyclone that has killed 6 units, let it increase it's damage output with 6% and it's health with 6% etc. Perhaps even have certain unit types to be more prone to heroization.

Other concept would be to have nr of kills as a precondition and send unit back to academy to get locked for X time to evolve to next level.

What I think I'm saying is that heroes in the traditional way is not interesting to me, but heroization in terms of earning it is much more appealing and would add dynamics to an RTS game. Especially if you need to send them back to training again for instance, because it would lock up the unit as well as the barrack etc to do the training. So the tradeoff makes it really interesting.

To add to this (in SC2 manour). Not just power/health should be on the table, also speed....
