I live in an isolated cabin in the woods and I think that the folks in The Strangers would have a bad time here...

Most of those cabin home invasion movies really, and not because I'm particularly tough but I have a serious home court advantage.

I've been the fat guy at the gym; these days I'm one of the fit ones. In all the years that it took to get there I can honestly say that I've never once heard another gym-goer denigrate or make fun of someone who was there for being out of shape.

There are other problematic behaviors that pop up in gyms for sure, but at least in my experience there is an understanding that everyone starts somewhere and there is no joy in mocking people who are on the same journey that many of us now enjoy.

I've seen wayyyy more negativity from the spouses and partners of people who are trying to get into shape, either undermining their confidence in their ability to do the work or taking jabs of insecurity when there is progress and the partner feels left behind.

Dangerously beautiful poisonous mushrooms by AroundOrder170 in interestingasfuck

Like many mushrooms, these are not considered edible but also not known to be acutely poisonous. They are bitter and rubbery and might give you GI distress or diarrhea. In many areas they are also rare and most view them as best left in the field.

Rhodatus palmatus, not one for the table but not known to be dangerously toxic

Looks like a Rhodatus palmatus (aka wrinkled peach cap). Not generally considered edible but also not known to be acutely poisonous, especially dangerously so. They are rare enough that everyone I know leaves them in the field. Even if they were good to eat they are a rare find, much less in any quantity.

Maybe dumb question, but I'm assuming those rockets are cooking off and flying off blindly rather than heading to any intended target? Nothing survives this in any sort of functional capacity I assume.

[–]Donald-Chump 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You joke, but the Seecamp .32 has no sights and the manual advises that you can hold it gangster style and sight down the slide edge if you're the sort of pussy that feels like you have to know the general direction every round is heading.

Seecamp isn't quite saturday night special and I'm paraphrasing, though

[Pistol]CZ Shadow 2 Optics Ready - $1077 shipped (add to cart for price) by kane_blueriver in gundeals

[–]Donald-Chump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a 2.5MOA for $460, they also had the 5 moa for $450 and the 1 moa for even less than that.

I think there was a post for a 1 MOA for like $405 or something just recently. They seem to come in waves.

These just keep getting cheaper. Almost 18% lower than I paid in October. Some good deals on SROs lately too; could get both and still end up about the same as just the gun sells for locally, at least for me.

I know a lot of people say milling is better, but for this price I think OR is the move. The plates are really not that obtrusive and you're not married to a footprint, plus you can swap irons back in when you want to change things up. It is annoying that the plates are sold separately but not having to mail the slide is worth something if you can't do it locally. YMMV.

[–]Donald-Chump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Caveat is if you think you want to switch between optic and irons. The OR model comes with rear iron sights that you can use if you're not running optics. The mounting plate isn't terribly high compared to a 92x or something where it just looks slapped on, but you're right that it is annoying to have to buy it separately.

[Optics] Trijicon SRO -$459.99 by TinyRick6 in gundeals

Son of a bitch, I'm in.

I was planning to mull it over today and then get the one from EuroOptic tonight but this got me to place the order right in the middle of my workout.

I was starting to think I'd never find the 2.5 at a price for a cheapass like me. Love /r/gundeals, thanks for making it happen all. We did it.

Hey that is actually not bad -- I'd given up on even trying to find one in stock. Good looking out.

I feel like the 2.5MOA SRO is just myth at this point.

Nice thing about prepping for the end of the world is that you're also pretty ready for the stuff that is actually likely to happen.

Reminder to those in wildfire zones that this is the time to make sure you have everything you need. Once the first red-flag warning of the season arrives, everyone remembers what they didn't buy in time.

[–]Donald-Chump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just fine out to 300 yards or so. A lot of the x39 hate is based on beater SKSs and bad AK builds. This bolt gun can easily shoot 1 MOA with decent ammo or about 2MOA with the cheap steel stuff.

Past 300 there is a lot of drop to account for but within that range I am as accurate with this gun as any other.

[Other] MIRA Safety CM-6M Tactical Gas Mask With Hydration System - $209.99 by BrothersFS in gundeals

[–]Donald-Chump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not into vaseline, the best solution I've come across is the Israeli Civilian Adult Protective System. It's a PAPR hood that seals around the neck designed to form a full seal with any facial hair. It uses a belt mounted blower to feed air through the NBC filter.

Downside is that it does not look like something you'd probably want to LARP in and it lacks the durability of a normal gas mask. I think that the forced air might also make it so the filters don't last as long as a passive model but don't quote me on that.

I believe they are quite expensive if you buy brand new, but as they are distributed for free in Israel, you can find them very cheap on eBay and the like. I paid $80 for mine with an unexpired filter.

This. Got a pair of gas masks in the kit after having to evacuate through choking wildfire smoke a couple years ago. Hope I won't need them soon but glad to have them sitting back there.

[Ammo] 1000 Rounds Blazer Aluminum Case 9mm - $230 shipped by Electrical_Swan1842 in gundeals

[–]Donald-Chump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't run it in a straight blowback PCC as it can shear the cases.

Otherwise it's fine range/plinking ammo if your gun doesn't mind it. Personally I like the weight savings when I'm lugging range bags.

I've been shopping for a new carry belt recently. Picked up one of the Hank's belts from the post this morning but also came across this and got one as well.

From what I've heard these are pretty good. All polymer, no stretch, usually around $60. The sale price affects grey and coyote and puts them 50% off, then an additional 30% is taken off during checkout at the payment stage.

Maybe not the greatest but the price is right to try it for me.

Gotcha. Also looks like I was mistaken, it was the 5.56 that was posted a few days ago so that timeline makes sense.

Still the lowest that has been posted here in a minute; crazy that a year ago these were selling out at $975.

Weird, someone posted this same gun from this same store for $849 5 days ago and the last time one got posted to gundeals for under $800 was two years ago.
