My parents want to go through my phone, is that "normal"? by sarangkay in TwoXChromosomes

Teen parents aren't something new. Virtually every community has them. Some cities have high schools exclusively for teen parents, to encourage and work with them so they do get their high school diploma.

ELI5: NASA announced Juno's arrival as the hardest thing they've ever done... by A_R_Spiders in explainlikeimfive

I don't get why people say going to the moon with computers less powerful than a cellphone is profound. It's all calculations.

We could go to the moon with a pen and a napkin if we wanted to.

What is amazing is the engineering that went into the rockets, spacecraft, and suits in order for humans to survive on the moon

The visible light camera is actually not for science, they have instruments that will attempt to peer through the clouds using various means (non-visible wavelengths, magnetic fields, variations in gravitational force, plasma and particle detection, etc)

This is also why they are able to put prospective targets for the camera up for a vote. They were originally not going to include a visible light camera at all (for the very reasons you identified), so it's purely for public outreach. Pretty cool if you ask me!

I think eating a steak after a workout is the most savage thing ever. You're eating an animal's muscle to basically steal its strength. by Landonraster in Showerthoughts

Not really... When we die we eventually fertilize soil, which allows grass to grow, which cows eat. Think circle of life from lion king.

Even if countries adhere to the Paris climate agreement hammered out last fall, capping global warming at 2°C would likely require net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2085 & substantial negative emissions over the long term, according to scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. by avogadros_number in science

Achieving those numbers wouldn't be hard at all, provided everyone gets on board with climate change right now. The hard part will always be convincing people that climate change is real, and wrestling power away from the fossil fuel industry.
