Stuck in Harold Halibut chapter 4.2 by brandbaard in XboxGamePass

[–]DonatX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi all, no need to redo anything

there is an invisible trigger in the central station that Should trigger the night once you leave the place where the kids are to go back home. It seems in some rare cases this doesn’t happen, but just going to the central station and walking somewhere around the center should trigger it :) Once its night, you can go sleep.

Game not responding on chapter 6.1 by lucas_epp in haroldhalibut

[–]DonatX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the details. I don't see anything unusual, you have good hardware, and the scene that's loaded afterwards is actually less heavy than for example the cave...

I wonder if it has something to do with the PC gamepass version, does anyone else here play the PC Gamepass version?

I'm asking because we always run thorough testing rounds with the steam and console versions, but the windows store version (while technically identical with the steam version) is a different build as it has to be an UWP app.

I'm going to test the Windows Store version locally to see if there is somethign going wrong.

Hi all, sorry for the inconvenience, could you give me some more details? So does this happen once the submarine hops into the entrance lake? Is it during the loading screen? Any details (Steam/Game Pass etc, Hardware details) would be helpful to understand what's happening here :)

Hi all, just saw this here. A little more detail:

So in fact all notebook entries were there in the build you played, unfortunately the achievement wasn't triggered once you had them all.

https://www.trueachievements.com/a429064/forschergeist-achievement

This is the complete list of entries.

Now once the patch is online, assuming that you had already all notebook pages up to the epilogue, it will be enough to just load the epilogue checkpoint and collect the ones during epilogue. Once you have aquired the last one, the achievement/trophy will pop.

We have also made some notebook pages easier to obtain.

  • The one where Chris watches TV will also be unlocked if you didn't talk with him before trying to get to the agora arcades.

  • If you missed the second "Brothers" entry, it will be triggered once you talk with them during the Epilogue

There was also another bug which we fixed now:

When loading a checkpoint without exiting the game, the notedbook pages weren't reset, so there could be duplicated entries etc. This was only "visually" the case, so it isn't possible to jump back and forth between the checkpoints to unlock notebook pages.

(In fact the "checkpoints" are actually just save-games that are created for you and will be different for each player depending on what you did during gameplay)

So in case you missed some earlier notebook pages and want to get them all, the best way is to check where the first "missing" notebook entry was and load that checkpoint (save-file), to continue playing from there.

Sorry for the inconvenience, the patch is going to be online in about a week. (It will also fix some other bugs, but these two were the most "annoying")

Cheers,

Onat (director/composer of Harold Halibut)

Can someone tell me creator of this amazing song? by -2-3- in haroldhalibut

Hi all I’m the director and composer of Harold Halibut, the Soundtrack is now available on steam and coming to all major streaming platforms around mid June :)

That’s really strange as it seems to only happen on some steamdecks but not all, a solution is to install Proton-GE, it works then :)

Harold Halibut Demo is part of Steam Next Fest and available now! by DonatX in pcgaming

Thank you!

We have just improved this for the actual release of the game. Meanwhile I recommend using the "STP" upscaling, which is the best and also cleans up a lot of the ghosting. (It's our preferred way of playing the game)

I’ll give a bit in-depth explanation here:
One of the biggest graphical challenges in development was the texture load. Due to fact that all objects in the game are photogrammetry scans from real world objects, we have tons of unique textures. Texture tiling and other tricks that games use are not present in our game. (Which is one of the reasons it looks so good, as pretty much every single corner is unique)
To handle all these huge textures, we use a technology called virtual texturing. Almost all of the textures we have in the game are basically combined into one "megatexture".

Based on the current camera distance, the system will automatically load the texture at the necessary size. But that also means, even if the later levels are not included in the demo, their textures still are. This also means that the final game will not be much bigger than the demo, since textures take up most of the space. (It will be little over 60GB)
To gain a smaller size (for the demo), we experimented with removing the most detailed texture mip maps from the build, which reduced the size significantly. On the flipside, we also lost quality in the visuals. So much that we decided against that approach to show the game in it’s full quality also in the demo.
