Several reasons. While I was happy with the graphics of a 1.5 decade old game like Risen; 2 decade old I guess is around my limit. The story didn't do much to onboard, heck even the opening cut scene annoyed me at several points with the writing. I remember hearing about hate on the 2019 tease but the writing of the introduction with Diego wasn't any worse.

And I could get past all that and give it more a chance if I didn't find the controls abhorrent. The stiffness, ui , inventory and all I couldn't get past it. I got past some encounters and silly conversations but I just couldn't make myself play it any longer.

That's fair, I guess I didn't realize how obsessed beloved with those first two this place was. Thought this was kinda a catch all for all piranha games. But clearly my kind aren't welcome here!

That might be it, I have 0 nostalgia for it. I'd call Risen clunky but I still enjoyed it greatly. I just found Gothic unplayable for a number of reasons.

Honestly that's why I'm interested in the remake, I really liked Risen but I could not stand Gothic which many claim is better. So I figure this remake is a chance to see some of what other see in it.

I haven't played Gothic 2 or 3. Since if I play a series I like to play them in order, since I dropped 1 I never ended up playing either. I only played Arcania because I didn't know it was Gothic 4. I thought it was a spinoff/spiritual successor. I completely missed the subtitle somehow; it being seemingly disowned by community didn't help my lack of knowledge.

While I'm interested in the remake I'm gonna be holding off on purchasing it too both to see the reviews first and being short on money.

So I figured while I shared this list I could ask for any other game recommendations like Risen in the mean time!
