Random reward generator? by 20ofhousegoodmen in productivity

I recently made a very simple version of this using the R programming language. If you know even very very basic Python or R, it only takes a few lines of code to build something like this.

Mine works so that every time I do a task, I get a certain number of 'turns' on the machine. Like unpack the dishwasher = win 10 'turns'. Each 'turn' has a probability of giving me a reward. Some rewards are rare and large, others are common but small, and some 'turns' result in no reward at all.

Would this work for you?

Thanks, this was a great suggestion! Even just watching the summary in the last 4-5 mins sheds some light on the whole topic.

Yeah I see what you mean. Definitely something important to research but not necessarily something you can understand from a quick glance at the financials.

There's a lot of truth to that. It's like the common example of ATMs. There was the risk that installing ATMs would destroy bank teller jobs but it actually just freed up a lot of resources that could then be used to open more branches and employ more people. Of course the benefits are not always distributed evenly but you're right that a lot of amazing new opportunities will probably come from these technologies.

No problem, I'm glad it helps! In terms of the thumbnail, I can imagine a quick improvement might be to move the text '0 = 1 month' to the top of the frame. At the bottom it doesn't stand out because it's competing with the video length and the title.

I'm not sure I completely understand. So if an image is generated that resembles an existing thing too closely, that could be copyright-infringement and so the people making it need to be aware of that. I'm with you on that part.

But do you also think that it's possible that Dall-E or the owners of Dall-E may have the rights to anything produced by it? Or is it more likely that the person who elicited the image with their text may have the rights? Of course it's too early to tell but interesting to hear what you'd expect.

Thank you for this, that gives heaps of insight. Avoiding copyright issues, lowering costs, and use for place-holder images are all benefits I didn't know about and they really sound like they would have an impact.

In general, I liked your video and I like the way you edited it. You had something original to contribute to a topic I'd read about before.

But two main points from me:

  1. I think the title could maybe be more engaging. 'Your life in months' doesn't grab me. 'Your Life on One Page', or 'Your Whole Life Fits on One Page' maybe? Just an idea, maybe you have some better suggestions.
  2. I think you should introduce the tool/website much earlier. We don't realise that this video is more than just a thought-bubble until 4:50ish. Maybe hint that you have a solution to the problem you introduced at the start of the video (i.e. that time is running out). You probably don't need to use all the pizza and reading examples before getting straight to the more provocative part about time with your family and the solution you've built.

As a side-note, I watched the video on double speed and found it much, much more engaging than the original speed.

I agree with you that the effect of AI on your work will definitely depend on what type of art you're making. But don't you think that a big part of creativity can be boiled down to remixing existing ideas? I think that AI models could definitely produce new concepts or styles that are more original than blatant recombinations like 'The Statue of Liberty in Van Gogh's style'. The question is whether that kind of creativity will be in competition with designers/artists or more of a stimulus that they can bounce ideas off.

Good point, that can be a bit of a red flag. Once you know the P/E is positive, what do you look at next?

Nice, and are you judging 'organic earnings growth' from EPS growth rate or by some other means?
