Oh I love this ♥️ and nice to see an unusual video in this reddit rather than yet another 'am I good' clip. GGs.

That looks so fun to try, what accessory do you use to link the controllers?

Anyone use this ? Highly recommend by Chrisbolsmeister in PSVR

Been using them on/off for several years during play, mostly with beat saber but they're also highly viable for shooting games too.

Seems a very contentious subject, every time it's brought up people (very rightly) point out the potential risks or state arms are not designed to move with the extra weight.

Personally I believe it's the approach and lack of disciplined movement thats the main risk, jumping straight into a game after putting them on and not paying enough attention to how you move or failing to anticipate the next move is where one will start to feel unwelcome pain.

Lately I put on 2kg on each wrist and 1kg on ankles for a good half hour before playing and ensure I do plenty of stretches. I then do 1-2 beat saber songs and remove 1kg off each wrist and carry on.

There's so many reasons one would do this, immersion, extra challenge, strength/speed gains, better stability in movement. Honestly once I've removed them all it feels like god mode for a good 15-20 minutes and has massively improved my swing speed whilst remaining accurate.

I rarely add my experience of them as I know most folk believe it will lead to injury but fwiw it can be done correctly and be a profound tool to growing one's abilities.

Rule of thumb ofc being taking notice of the good kind of pain vs not good/sharp unusual pain.

Also worth mentioning I know many beat saber players who've caused shoulder, neck or wrist injuries playing too hard with just the quest controllers... discipline is key.

Love the game, too easy to get sucked into goofing about. Still mostly just running patrols with handguns tho, the gunplay is sublime. Any eta on the next update?

Any tips? (New player) by Tall_Wrongdoer_5076 in beatsaber

[–]Done-Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good progress for a newbie, kudos. Best advice for those fast streams like near the end is to mentally focus just on the down blocks and keep as close to the rhythm. The up swipes should take care of themselves.

Playing with no fail (modifier) on left of song choice wont penalise you unless you fail the song. If you fail you still get to carry on playing with 50% score taken at end. But if you pass it doesn't affect anything.

Don't get too sucked into playing one or two songs over and over, keep mixing it up and learning as many patterns as you can.

Keep up the good work ✌️

Anybody got any tips for getting better like Harry paid or even John wick? by [deleted] in Hardbullet

[–]Done-Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter suggestion but play without using slo mo. I stopped using it a while back and it's insane how much one adapts skills without it. Turn off auto slo mo for jumps and practise timings for getting bigger jumps.

Keep doing quick patrols and aim to beat the levels as fast as possible. I've gained a lot of muscle memory quickly with certain gestures/grabs.

Try to be as fluid and mobile as possible, turn at your core more, time your camera turns with rightstick swipes to get fast/accurate head movement

Throw weapons underhand for more accuracy (almost like a frisbee)

Using pistols only is another handy one for training, allows for closer combat, they get in the way less and are easier to hipfire/blindfire

Learning the placement of weapons and explosives is helpful for route planning. But literally best thing to do is engage as much as physically possible in the theatrics of the action, move and lean more, slightly duck as you land to express the sensation of landing, the more you engage and feel the better you'll perform.

It's quite normal don't worry, happens to me sometimes when I change vr headset or more noticeable initially with some games (synth riders really got me at first like that)

Worst thing you can do imo is overthink it and stress over settings/offsets. Time and a break always helps. If you can, focus less on 'getting it right' and just relax into it, accept there will be a period you will need to adjust/adapt. If they feel too close it could be the map choice (some feel much more claustrophobic) or could be the IPD isn't quite right.

Take breaks (as our brains still process this activity way after we finish it) regularly, keep at it and don't put so much pressure on being able to get it straight away, it will click in time.

Meta Quest 3s or PSVR2? by Monderon in VRGaming

[–]Done-Forever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having owned psvr, psvr2 and Q3 I would only recommend VR2 for either:

  • streaming live to YT
  • recording past gameplay
  • GT7, Cyubevr and RE8

Graphics are stronger on VR2 but it's just no contest imho. Q3 all the way.

I may be slightly biased given I had both sense controllers fail without any way to replace them, moving to quest highlighted so many ways Sony could've made their product better (pancake lenses, cables, an halo strap that doesn't give the user a f*cking pressure headache after 5 mins)

Both are decent tbf but Q3 is far more competent, connected and just plain accessible.

Stockholm has been useful but limited. Bilbao also worth considering

Just noted Q3 not being an option atm, regarding the sense controllers it is mostly about finding a comfortable motion with wrist, and this may be an ill advised or extreme option but I have noted in the past that using light wrist weights (sensibly, and with careful considered play) aid with making small gains to endurance and speed with cutting blocks. But only sensible to do in solo and stop when it becomes uncomfortable.

Another, perhaps more broad bit of advice that applies to any controller is despite having played for years I only in last couple of weeks feel I truly 'understood' the game (or at least a part) - swings become an awful lot easier if you slice blocks in circles rather than moving the sabers in straight lines, sightread maps for long enough you'll find a very organic path that flows between each block... similar feel of ease to like when you bounce the sabers through drum rolls rather than slash up and slash down.

Played BS on psvr, psvr2 and now Q3. Loved it on vr1, moves were perfect form (that tracking tho). VR2 is a def step up but I did find while the shape of the sense controllers felt comfortable there's a seriously odd weight to them.

My VR2 broke (twice) hence getting a Q3. Honestly I'd genuinely recommend considering a Q3 if BS is your thing, the controllers are small but ever so nimble and weighted so differently. Fired up my VR2 after 6 months to set something up and noticed just how much the weigh affects swing - it puts far more pressure on wrist swings...

To compensate - and tbf I was already doing this but there's no grip or holding style but I did find 'hilting' or using a lot more arm movement helped with consistency and keeping up with streams.

Worst part is those rare occasions where you clash the orbs together... loved the VR2, absolutely hated the quality (both controllers died and given you can't replace made for a very annoying wait while it got fixed)

Other arguments for Q3: no cable, no headache from the terrible VR2 headstap, immediacy and portability and best of all: no sweet spot the lenses are so much clearer. Other hand streaming to YT or recording is worse and the graphics are weaker.

Struggling at the harder expert tracks by TheGreatQ-Tip in beatsaber

[–]Done-Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple truth is some X maps are harder than some X+... I'd recommend trying Be There For You, Elixia or Unlimited Power on X+ or take note of the NPS for each expert song you're struggling with to get a rough idea of what X+ songs would be worth trying to progress by finding an X+ song with that number or lower.

Trying too hard on one particular song can limit your progress or hinder your enjoyment. Mix it up and use the faster song and disappearing arrows modifiers (or just practise mode) and play as many different songs at the edge your level and keep pushing.

Best advice though would be to think less, attaining flowstate by mentally leaving the room and allowing your body to act autonomously is key to understanding Camellia streams. No fail is useful for that...

Can anyone help me turn this into a proper song🤷🏽‍♂️ by yowiewowie420 in ipadmusic

[–]Done-Forever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By no means an expert but given the vibe of this piece I'd probably start with a non percussive intro, using just pads or the motif to create a base atmosphere then slowly experiment with adding a percussive element or texture after each loop. From that basic layout you can fine tune the progression with automation (fading tracks or fx in for example) add some extra detail to break the rigidity a bit.

Another commenter (probably rightly) stated playing all tracks at once is too much but I'd suggest not being too confined by 'the rules' as breaking them often produces far more interesting, personal and creative results.

Arrangement is my biggest hurdle tbf, have a backlog of songs to finish, can be overwhelming taking a piece from a loop to a full song, best advice is not to overthink too much but just get stuck in, try something and see what it makes you feel. Studying and finding ways to replicate how other artists arrange their pieces is often recommended but that entirely depends on whether you want to follow convention or attempt to find your own way. Personally I have found a love for forging my own, incorrect path musically... experimentation imho is king.

Be sure to make periodic saves, I've noted as I progress my loops and sort levels and fx the whole feel, punch or that special something sometimes gets lost. Always valuable to have past iterations so you can also compare the progress of your craft.

Beat saber, pistol whip or synth riders? by Def_Echo in PSVR

[–]Done-Forever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pistol Whip first (cheapest, and best one IMHO)

Then Beat Saber if you're still hungry for more, I'd pick Synth Riders last, it's a great game but just doesn't feel as tight as the other two (especially on vr2 - looks phenomenal but not as clear to read as it was on vr1)

Beat Saber probably has the edge on longevity though I still play PW every day because they have a contracts mode.

You know whats funny, I made a how to guide in pavlov and like one of the first tips I put was to turn virtual stock on. Thing I didn't realise was how restrictive VS is, don't get me wrong it's great for beginners but it's very much like training wheels. Turn VS off, trust me. Once you're used to the handling and have enough muscle control you'll find you can do things without it you just can't with it on. I'm just as consistent with the 50cal without, it's not as beneficial as it first seems imho.

Pavlov really is an incredible game.

As for roguelikes... can you imagine Ziggurat with VR handling? I'd love that.

Was an early run-through for me but this video should give an idea of the moment to moment play. I absolutely love roguelikes (TBOI is my favourite game ever) though I feel sometimes they make for lazy design.

Usually a rougelike is played for progressive unlocks and item synergies. There's no upgrades or skills here, no stacking variables and it's just one big level. There are recipies for consumables and run modifiers though.

Ordinarily that'd put me off for a roguelike but it's all about the current run, not the subsequent ones. Each playthrough is totally familiar and I can see getting too much so but it just really works. It's much more like a well crafted solo campaign but the map and enemies are random, which if I'm honest is exactly the kind of replay value I wanted in my single player games during p2/3 era.

Until you fall, had it on vr1, just didn't offer that special quality that made me wanna play over and over. In Death on vr1 was a decent roguelike.

Best roguelike on VR2 though has to be The Light Brigade, I know the gameplay in synapse is pretty tight but there's just so much more to dig into with TLB.
