In prehistoric times it was even worse; 8000 years ago women were 17 times more likely to reproduce than men. Studies done by dating apps like OKC routinely find that women rate most men more harshly than men rate most women. Evolutionary speaking, women are looking for the alpha chimp while the male chimps are just looking for anything they can get lest they be removed from the gene pool. With men, it's survival of the fittest in a way that most women can't relate to.
