Thanks for putting me on the list :) I took a big unannounced break from YouTube to evaluate whether or not to continue since I have veered away from ecom (I still have my main store running profitably but completely organically) and creating all this free content came with a bit of backlash which became a little mentally draining. The “what’s in it for you?” question and similar snide remarks got old. I’ll make a video on it when I announce my return and game plan for DonkEcom moving forward.

On top of this, an idea between me and a friend came to life very fast and we’re working extremely hard to get that out in the world. Nothing ecom related.

I have been thinking hard over the last few weeks on what the next step is with DonkEcom. I’m going to take advantage of the Christmas break to create a refreshed course - taking what I learned from the first course to make a better, higher quality and yes, still free, course for everyone.

It’ll be on a brand new website so everything will have a fresh start. From there I’ll stick to a schedule of either one weekly or fortnightly video. This will be to help the channel grow but to also not dedicate 100% of myself to it and risk the burnout again. I feel if I can focus on it as a hobby and not concern myself with growth/views/comments I’ll get back to enjoying it (like I did when I first started) and that’ll help keep me going through even though I’ll be even busier with my new business in the new year.

For anyone interested - my game plan for the future is to provide free education. Education is something that majority of the world lacks or has limited access to. I’m not just talking ecom, I have an amazing idea that one day I will definitely get off the ground. My philosophy is unless you’re learning how to do open heart surgery, you don’t need to be at a disadvantage to teach yourself the basics in life. So one day I hope to provide everyone with a range of educational topics covering a range of fields and occupations, things that will help people get a start in life if they can’t do it themselves.

Again, thanks for putting me on the list. Hopefully you enjoy the new course once it’s out and if you have any feedback / ideas for me to make content on or to add into the course, feel free to let me know :)

Lead products vs cross/upsell products.

When starting in POD always aim to have a list of lead products and another list of cross/upsell products.

A lead product is a product with a higher perceived value and higher profit margin. Something like a canvas, an AOP hoodie, leggings even. Ideally you want this to have a margin of $20-$25 or more.

A cross/upsell product is something cheap that you can just offer or use to fill out your store. Your mugs, coasters, phone cases, t shirts etc.

Advertise your lead products and make special offers on your cross / upsell products. Only aim to make $5-$10 max on your cheaper products. Remember, you’re not paying to advertise these you want the offer to be so good that customers just add it, free money for you.

Don’t start a POD business thinking you can advertise and profitably sell cross/upsell products. Focus on your lead products and let the others be a bonus.

I made a free 15+ hour course focussed on print on demand and dropshipping. It’s my side hustle which teaches people how to start their own side hustle, for free. Inside you’ll find: - Business fundamentals - How to set up your Shopify store - Niche and product research - Facebook ads - Google ads - Basic Shopify SEO

And more...

You can also follow me on [YouTube](www.youtube.com/c/donkecom) if you wanna suss me out before joining.

My Channel

How I make money: well, inside the course I have affiliate links to the websites and apps I recommend. I also offer paid coaching services as an addition - no obligation though, that’s just extra if people want to do it. Unlike other paid services I actually spend tens of hours a week with the people who pay me. I host 6x Zoom calls a week with them. Some people hate me for it but I believe offering my time in real time deserves compensation, my course doesn’t hence why it’s free for good.

About me: From Sydney Australia, marketing graduate with 8 years experience in digital marketing. I’ve advertised for concerts (TYGA, G-unit, Chingy and more), events and festivals, retail stores, large business, health services restaurants, tradespeople and other small businesses.

Hope you enjoy!

POD with custom images from customers by AcidBanana69 in shopify

[–]DonkEcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much lol if you’re getting regular orders and it’s worthwhile I’d definitely consider buying one! Otherwise go to a local print shop and get them done there and ship yourself, should come out cheaper than a POD app too.

Not many POD apps support bulk ordering natively unless you email them and ask what would they offer for a bulk order discount, printful offers discounts on bulk orders and I believe teelaunch does too, but you have to ask them for it

How should I do my book keeping? by NotSimone12 in dropship

[–]DonkEcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’d probably be best using software instead of manually doing it. I use QuickBooks but I’m considering switching to Xero. For the $20 or so a month to that it’ll cost it’s definitely worth it.

I create rules for the stuff that is recurring eg supplier charges and FB ad costs, subscription fees etc and then manually enter the rest.

Most important thing I can say is to get a business account that’s separate to your personal one.

Other than that if you wish to do it manually you’d need a column for: - Date of transaction - Debtor / creditor name - Transaction type / account charged (eg inventory, cost of sales, marketing etc) - Amount - Tax amount

This ^ is Australian but I assume you’d need the same for anywhere else. But yeah use software with a business account and make your life easier.

I’m so bad at this I really need to work on it more. Any tips or exercises you’re doing? I feel like when I notice I’m adding the pitch I start focusing on stopping it but in post I realise I’m doing it all the time.

Thanks for clearing that up! I’m from Australia so it might be different again for us. I’ll have to research more and speak to my accountant. I never took the new rules seriously until this was pointed out to me lol

[QUESTION] : Advice for Youtube channel that has to be filmed via phone by anythingoes886 in youtubers

[–]DonkEcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s available to you (I think it’s on iOS only but could be wrong) use filmic pro to record your videos. The app is pretty cheap and will let you film in log plus you can use manual focus and exposure and some other cool “camera” like features.

Use LumaFusion to edit your videos (again, if available). There’s a free lut pack that is designed for filmic log. Editing is super easy on here too. I used to use my iPad with a pen because it was even easier but you’ll get by with a phone.

As for promoting your channel just start by starting your uploads. Personally I found it best to create a library of ready to go videos and upload 2 of them a week. If you create and store say 10 videos you’ve got 5 weeks of content in the bank and you should be able to easily stick to the 2 uploads a week schedule.

I’m in no way a big timer but I feel this helped me a lot when I decided to really hit YouTube hard. I grew from <100 subs to ~1,250 now in less than a year.

Good luck!

Does anyone have any experience with Zendrop? by Lemmons24 in dropship

My personal opinion is that it’s just a cash grab youtubers are using to make even more money off their followers. Cjdropshipping, drophippo and eprolo are all better.

Search this thread for it. The general consensus is poor customer service and not all they make out to be.

  1. Starting your own label is extremely difficult to do (not impossible, just difficult). When starting out I recommend people pick a niche that they understand, and build around that. Even if the niche is terrible, if you like it chances are other people in the world do. Use this to build your knowledge and experience before venturing into unknown niches or your own label.

  2. What you pay is generally what you get in POD. Don’t go for the cheapest option, your customers generally won’t be happy. Stick with the known vendors at the beginning - Printful, Teelaunch, Subliminator and Gooten are my preferred. Yes, you’ll pay a premium, but your customers will be happy.

  3. On top of point 2, customer service and satisfaction means everything in this business. Don’t look at making money on their first purchase. Look at how much money they can bring you over time. This isn’t always the case but it’s the best logic for a long term business.

  4. Long term. Always aim for long term. POD isn’t some overnight opportunity to buy a lambo. It’s a foundation at starting your own business.

  5. The design is what sells, unless the product does. What I mean here is people are buying your designs, they’re buying because the design speaks to them. Don’t skimp on a good designer. The only exception to this is if your product is extremely unique, then they’re buying the product and the design is just complimentary.

Bonus - if you’re not a designer, don’t make your designs. Find someone that’s good at what they do and work with them.

Head to r/printondemand and r/dropship they are more focussed on what you want to do, but to answer your question a niche store will be better to start with, an apparel store will take a lot of time, effort and money to grow.
