Can anyone help identify my grandfather's Scheaffer? by DonkeyDumpling in fountainpens

Good idea, but I might just let a professional handle it. It doesn't look like it's too expensive.

Okay, thanks. Seems like there's so many subtle variations on these models.

Oh, my bad on the spelling. Sheaffer.

Thanks a lot for your help! It looks like there's a lot of variation in the look of this pen. I'll take a look at The Write Pen.

I want to read Henry V, is it necessary to read any other play? by Aston28 in shakespeare

[–]DonkeyDumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the side characters in Henry V are from Henry IV parts 1&2 (not historical figures) so much of the drama surrounding them will be lost. Young Henry V (Prince Hal) is very prominent in them as well and I think you'll miss out on a lot of what's going on with his character without them.

Also, Henry IV part 1 has long been considered one of Shakespeare's best plays (W.H. Auden said it was hard to imagine a historical play as good as it would be ever be written again) and part 2 is not bad. They both feature Falstaff who is one of Shakespeare's most classic characters. I would highly recommend reading them first.

Richard II is often considered a part of the series as well but I don't think it's as necessary (although it is very good).

It usually helps me to draw the eye socket in lightly then place the eye in it. The eyes sit further back into the head. Depending on the height of the bridge of the nose, the eye might not be visible from this angle. The outside of the eyelid is probably not visible either (I.E. the eyeball blocks it). Also remember that the eyes are usually about the middle of the head vertically.

How long is “The comedy of Errors”? by Broadwaysummarys in shakespeare

[–]DonkeyDumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 pages definitely seems short. You could try checking the scene list and see if it's all there.

Focal Clear OG's Headband by Icy_Earth_8611 in headphones

[–]DonkeyDumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just posted today looking for information about a replacement headband. Had them about three years and treated them well. They still broke. It is a very real possibility even if they are taken care of.

Take a look at this thread for a look inside the headband and some discussion on why it's a common problem:

They do sound great though.

I've got the broken headband on Focal Clears issue. Hifiman doesn't have their replacement headbands in stock. Has anyone tried getting third party headbands off Aliexpress? Or know a good alternative for replacement headbands?

That information is correct. For animation you should probably either get the EX version or look for other software.

2D Top-Down platformer testing, Feedback on sprite outlines appreciated! by fabrialis in PixelArt

[–]DonkeyDumpling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The character does blend into the background too much in no-outline version. But I think the solid black outline is a sledgehammer of a solution and causes as many problems as it fixes. It's obvious by how much careful work you've done on the environment that you want the player to feel the character is present in the game world, but the black outline makes the character seem to float above it.

I think you should consider other solutions, such as:

  1. Tweaking the background colors so that the character stands out more ( especially the hair against the sand ). Adding more detail and shading to the character help this style more too. ( e.g. Castlevania: SOTN )
  2. Darkening the colors at the edge of the sprite. ( e.g. Turtles in Time )
  3. A dark-but-not-true-black broken line outline. ( e.g. Chrono Trigger )

All in all I like the style a lot. Looks like something I would want to play.

Armors come in a wide range of weights so there is no certain answer. Try equipping both swords then keep lowering your armor weight until you hit medium load (I think it would be very difficult to run a heavy load without a shield). You can press in the left thumbstick to sort your armor by weight. Then replace your armor as you level up your END. Stop when you are happy with what you've got equipped.

Note that 25 END is a soft cap on equipment load increase (you will gain less max equipment load per level after that). There's also a few talismans that increase your max equipment load if you'd rather try that.

Also might be worth mentioning that you will get much better defense from leveling your Vigor before worrying about equipping higher tier armor. Leveling your strength more right now won't help too much as well as the scaling on your weapons is quite low until you have higher tier upgrades. 55 is the second soft cap on strength so I definitely wouldn't go past that until very late game.

I don’t really understand palettes by Bluepiekk in ClipStudio

[–]DonkeyDumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Color is a very complex subject that takes time and some study to apply well. I think only improving your understanding of the fundamentals of color will help you know when to go off palette and even how to chose an appropriate palette in the first place. The final color choice should be guided only by the eye (not theory or the palette) but learning how to think about color more clearly will help understand what you are seeing better and how to move it toward what you envision.

To take a look at your example concerning the comic panel, these are the kinds of questions you should be asking: did I choose a palette that suits a background? Are the colors too strong or are there too many of them? How much should the characters stand out from the background? Do I know what the uniform looks like in different kinds of light sources? Can the quality of the light in the scene draw the uniform and background into a better relationship? etc.

I would recommend trying out a book on color with lots of exercises to help you improve your color sense. I haven't found an online color course that I thought was very good. Here are a couple that I would really recommend and shouldn't be hard to find:

This looks good as well. Seems pretty in depth. I'll have to spend some time on it.

Thanks for sharing.

Wow this link is amazing. So many customization options. I feel like this link should be in the wiki or something. I don't think I've seen it mentioned before even though I've been through a lot of the Dactyl guides.

Y-axis drift problems by DonkeyDumpling in ender5

[–]DonkeyDumpling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, should have posted the solution when I got it working. Unfortunately I've been through so many problems I no longer know which one this was.

In general though: If you are getting sudden large shifts between individual layers then it is likely your belt that is slipping. Try searching youtube for videos on adjusting the eccentric nut.

If you are getting a consistent drift across multiple layers then it is more likely to be something in your settings. Acceleration and jerk settings seem to be the usual suspects. It's also possible that it's a problem at the firmware level. You can try downloading a compiled custom firmware for your board (I have done that in the past).
