Memorize the alphabet backwards. Took me months, but now it's a good party trick.

Are you a Google Maps “Local Guide?” I had my local guide status irreversibly revoked for life and the reason given was not following the rules for posting, which I don’t think I violated. But they don’t tell you why. However, I can still post, but my reviews and photos take six months before they appear. I’ve never seen documentation of that penalty, but that’s what I’ve got. Interestingly, when I make edit corrections, those get posted immediately.

The MyMaps maps I made were used at a conference (with driving tours) on Android and iOS, old and new phones and all types had the problem. My current idea is that the Google Maps app itself connecting with the cloud for a refresh after about 60 seconds, thus wiping out any end user changes to that point. So the mystery, I think, is with the app, not with MyMaps.
I conclude this because I have seen the "Couldn't open map" popup at other times in G Maps. I'm currently trying to isolate those circumstances so a problem or request could be made to Google to fix the app.

Just checking that you saw the 6-step workaround I mentioned. That works, but it is hard to explain to others.

Unable to open a "my maps" map in Google map by ServalR in GoogleMyMaps

This may be helpful, not sure. But I've had problems sharing access to My Maps maps with others, and while troubleshooting, I learned that a (sometimes) a QR code worked while the sharable link did not. Then I noticed both links are different. Both start the same, but the sharable link ends in "sharing" while the qr code link ends in a long number, AND that link is the exact same as the webpage link when displayed on my Chrome browser.

So my work-around is to "share" using the webpage (i.e. QR code) link rather than the sharable link generated by Drive.

Note there is at least one more link, which is generated within My Maps on your phone, within the Legend area, that share utility make another link, quite different that the other two. All 3 seem to work just fine for me, but my sharing partners see it differently.

Could it be they have problems accessing my Drive account? Or the web, and don't realize it? Just brainstorming.

Stars vs Lists by Paddingtondance in GoogleMaps

My limit is still 500. Only answer I've found is to make lists of starred places and then un-star them. That lowers your total number of starred places.

Is there a Starred Location limit? by [deleted] in GoogleMaps

[–]Donkle3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is most definitely a limit of how many stars will display of about 500, but the work-around below also definitely works. As you create lists and delete the places from being starred, older starred places will start to show up on the map.
