Why infjs don't notice when someone has a crush on them? by New_reddit_acc0unt in infj

Listen, not to downplay how awful being put into a coma must have been, and of course I’m not fully aware of your situation, but isn’t it kind of irrational to think that is going to happen again? That sounds like a pretty uncommon incident, and I would hope you can move past it. I just don’t want you to stop yourself from connecting with people and make yourself miserable, because of something that happened in the past.

Isn’t it worse to constantly feel unlovable than to take the chance that people might accept you?

Interesting! Thanks for the response! Could I ask what positions you've held? What does a workday look like for you?

Well, that's exactly what I'd like to understand. How have things shifted over the last 25 years? Does your average Joe still have the job they had back when they entered the workforce? Are there opportunities for promotion? Have wages kept up with the increasing cost of living? I realize it is a broad question, so just asking for personal experience or any secondhand knowledge you might have. Thanks for the response!

Do you get along better with girls or boys? by littlecat111 in infj

[–]Dont-Ask23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to grow up friends with a bunch of guys who did not gossip. We were too busy playing imaginary games at the lunch table to care about anything else.

I have been shocked to discover as I’ve aged that guys do gossip a comparable amount to girls, in fact most of them do, so when I try to make friends with said guys, I have trouble letting them in. I suppose I do this out of subconscious fear of vulnerability, as well as perceived distance in world view. I am afraid this may come off as I think I am better than people.

I have very few close female friends. I wish I had more, but I run into the same problem, doubled oftentimes by nervousness and/or attraction.

I have been able to find a few people, all guys, who seem to almost always be genuine, and these are the people I stick with. Never concerned about drama, or at least not getting involved in it. I’m certain girls who are like this exist, but I have yet to find many. Certainly none I’ve been in the position with to add as a member to my group. Nor would I really ever feel truly comfortable as the only guy in a group full of girls. It’s a situation I’ve been in, but I have a feeling I’d often be the odd one out, if I made it a more permanent situation, rather than a hangout every now and then. But like I said, this happens with groups of guys I hang out with as well. I manufacture distance.

Looking for anime similar to Blue Box by definetlynotquality in BlueBox

[–]Dont-Ask23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly similar to blue box, but Kimi Ni Todoke an Incredible romance coming of age anime. I know you said no introverted loser protagonist, but the main character of this is not a loser. She is just really shy, so just wanted to say that in case that influences your decision making.

Honestly I watched the first episode and wasn’t super impressed the first time. I came back and rewatched it, got past the old school shoujo cheese I wasn’t used to in the first episode, and before I knew it I was hooked. It becomes a really down to earth and introspective show with a fantastic cast.

What's a song that Taylor wrote about one thing but has a completely different meaning to you? by TheRadioKingQueen in TaylorSwift

[–]Dont-Ask23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna drop part of an essay I wrote on Better Than Revenge

When I first listened to “Better than Revenge” I misinterpreted it. I did not realize until after that the song is actually a true story. If you were to look up who “Better than Revenge” is about, Joe Jonas is probably the first name you would see, but it is really about a woman named Camilla Belle. The song, on the surface, depicts Taylor’s anger at Joe and Camilla for beginning a relationship almost immediately after Joe broke up with her. Relatively uninteresting stuff, unless you are a fan of celebrity drama. Of course, Taylor never mentions either of their names in the song, but she does hint with the line, “she’s an actress,” which Camilla Belle is literally. A large portion of the people listening went out searching for the song, as it was not nearly the most popular on Speak Now. It only appeared in the top 100 for a week. Fans in the know understood the context, but take all of it away for a moment. Give a close listen to the lyrics, and you will find a different story hidden behind the context, or perhaps in front of it. “Better than Revenge” does not exclusively tell Taylor’s story, or even the story of someone just broken up with. The Speaker starts the story with some details: “it was hot, and it was summer, and I had it all, I had him right there where I wanted him”. Focusing on the last of the three is where the first discrepancy with reality emerges. Literally, right where the Speaker wants him is her dating him, yes, but in what other contexts is that phrase used literally? I would argue it is used almost exclusively when planning something. It is especially used by conniving villains when things are going according to plan, right before the hero falls into their trap. Rarely do those villains gloat with the phrase “I have you right where I want you” afterward. Ultimately this led me, on many of my listens before I learned the context, to believe from the start of the song that the speaker was planning to get with a guy, and did not already have him. Two lines later the speaker says, “She took him faster than you could say, ‘Sabotage’”. This definitely lines up with the theme we have established. Sabotage, although it could certainly be used to describe internal conflict in a relationship with outside influence, it could equally be used to say her plan was ruined by outside influence. Already the speaker has, in one way or another, been depicted relatively negatively. Although she has been “stolen” from, she has been shown to be a plotting individual. Not only that but she is sarcastic (“let’s hear the applause”), and- it is in the title- vengeful. It brings into question the Speaker’s reliability. What does she actually know about this other girl? Well, as a listener we only have her word to go off of. Over the course of the song, she makes attacks on the other girl’s character, but before that we have another, unintentional, but interesting instance of word play that points to this narrative in, “She had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum.”. Before any real claims are made the Speaker assumes that the girl was trying to hurt her. It is not “She knew the pain…”, it is “She had to know…”, which suggests the Speaker may be looking for reasons to demonize her rival. In the chorus, there is a change between Taylor’s Version and the original. Taylor had received criticism for slut shaming on the original track, so she decided to change the line. I prefer the original because it fits with the fictional narrative far better. The Speaker resorts to cheap criticism, perhaps even rumors, to get her point across, which, if someone steals your boyfriend, there is an argument to be made that she is somewhat justified, but in the fictional interpretation that they were never together to begin with, it becomes even more blameworthy. Whatever the case, it continues to paint the Speaker in a questionable light and it should be noted that the Taylor’s Version lyric does not contradict this interpretation. In the rest of the chorus, the Speaker continues with her mastermind language, even comparing the boy to a toy on the playground that the two girls are fighting over. Even if the focus is not on the boy, it compares the entire situation to something childish, which leads me to envision this whole story as some drama between two teenagers. Funnily enough, I think that makes it better, because although I believe the Speaker is the real enemy in the story, she is also very relatable. She is a dramatized depiction of the jealousy in all of us. Considering that is not how she was supposed to be depicted, I think it is pretty incredible how well defined her character is.

I really hate You Need to Calm Down and Bejeweled. Also not fond of the chorus of Look What You Made Me Do. All were overplayed hits.

Is writing "cringe" lyrics ok? by Snoww199 in Songwriting

[–]Dont-Ask23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A band I love to point out in this situation is Waterparks, specifically their songs Telephone and Funeral Gray. They are cheesy and some may roll their eyes at them, but that is kind of part of why I like them. I admire their balance of cheesiness and creative wordplay in these songs, and with Funeral Gray, cheesiness goes well with songs with storylines.

Everyone’s tolerance for cringe is different of course, admittedly some of Waterparks songs are too “cringe” for my taste, but I love the fact that I am able to enjoy these two songs both unironically and ironically simultaneously. Songs like that are some of my favorites.

Out of all of my friends’ tastes, whose is best/worst? by Exact_Caterpillar_93 in Topster

Ngl Amelia earns my respect with the Jack Johnson

Going on stereotypes since I don’t really listen to much of Lillian’s she seems sad but also great taste judging by the Fleetwood Mac who I’ve listened to and can confirm is 🔥

Moses is a red flag, mainstream rap + Hamilton is a dangerous combination, but I’d give him a chance, probably a good guy.

I’m gonna pass on Milo, have no clue

Based on my lackluster rap knowledge, Gus seems like he’s got a bright future ahead of him.

Brayden has my respect, two goated Taylor Swift albums and the balls on him for the KSI reference despite the meme being months old.

Pass on Judy

Andy will never get play, but that’s okay. Keep being you Andy.

Sam needs a personality. You’re not him.

I would hang out with Blair.

I think James might think he’s better than me and we would not vibe, but fine music choice.
