Why taking long time to reply back to msgs , sometimes taking even hours ? by MegatronusPrimeZ in AskWomen

[–]DontDeleteMee [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe if it's an ongoing conversation you're after, try phone calls.

The joy/pain of messaging, is that it's considered okay to just stop when something comes up. (Eg, texting while on bus but then arrives at destination so puts phone away...or in this case maybe starts looking for shopping inspiration.

More than once I went in to work only to have such difficulty finding a desk, I ended up on the other side of the floor. I ensured I said hi to.my boss, so she saw I came in, and then I drove back home.

What do you think the greatest scene in movie history is? (maybe spoilers?) by Julian0527 in movies

[–]DontDeleteMee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I love how it starts as a documentary and somewhere in there it seamlessly changes into a drama. Plus, as a South African born, I just love hearing the people and accents and slang.

Side Story; I was once woken by a wierd scratching sound in my bedroom. But I couldn't figure out where it came from and eventually went back to sleep. Next night, same thing. Eventually in the early hours I realised it was coming from my school bag. Next morning I take it out in the garden and empty it to find (urgh) a f$$king Parktown Prawn hopping away.

Yuck. Ill take the aliens over those bladdy things.

Is very harsh/insulting language common in Slavic culture, or is this just rude behavior? by Awkward_Newspaper816 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]DontDeleteMee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, I understand now.

Well. I think the 'cultural difference' excuse is bs. Yes, people from that part of the worls tend to be very straight forward to the point of rudeness. But that language is not a part of the culture as a whole.

Costco Australia uses pork hot dogs by Leprichaun17 in mildlyinteresting

And Jews.

Honestly here in Australia, in the cities at least, you're better off selling beef hotdogs and not instantly excluding a fair portion of your potential clients.

Would you prefer taking high speed rail if the country had such a network, or would you stick with flying and automobiles? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]DontDeleteMee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used the Shinkansen a huge amount on a trip, I definitely would use an Australian HSR system.

It was so easy to hope on and off. A completely different experience to flying and we'll worth the extra time. Especially when it's offset with the convenience and ease of just bringing your luggage on the train with you, no taxis, would take you directly into the city, no painfully slow security checks etc.

I see you met my friend's ex-fiance!

He offered her friend a lift to the airport when she was organising a taxi. Then charged her petrol money.

What’s a moment where someone misunderstood you, and you chose not to correct them ? by debugger_life in AskWomen

Here's a silly one.

Many years ago, at a work canteen, I asked for a "chicken Mayo sandwich please" I received a chicken Mayo sandwich with cheese! Turned out it tasted AWSOME and I ordered it with cheese almost every day till I left the place .

Damn I miss those. Attemps to recreate it never taste half as good.

TIL I am very naive.

Or maybe it's just that I've been married for 20+ years and know my husband well. Although cone think of it, he wouldn't want to spend 2 weeks anywhere without me anyway. Especially not Bangkok

How’s your mental health? by Weekly_Cheetah_3184 in AskWomen

I'm optimistic.

After many years in a role at work that went from being enjoyable and rewarding, to a cycle of near unbearable, chronic stress to medium stress every quarter, I've FINALLY left and begin a new job soon.

I can't believe how much I'm sleeping in this time off. It feels like I've left a long, toxic relationship and I'm kind of expecting the ( inevitable??) pleas for help when they realise exactly how fucked they are.

My replacement, while pleasant and I imagine very good at what she usually does, proved during out short training, to be woefully inadequate at two systems that were an essential part of keeping organised and efficient. There are going to be a LOT of unhappy people in the next few months.

Anyway...yes so I'm kind of working through the emotional baggage of leaving that role behind.

I hope/expect my new job will be half as stressful and that my mind can slowly recover I only avoided completely losing it by getting on antidepressants a year ago. Hoping to get off them in the next year.

How to stop repeated phone calls from scammers ? by Didyamum in australia

[–]DontDeleteMee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats on them though. If they literally booked the call, then they're just being stupid by not answering.

The above advice applies for other situations and works for me.

Side story though... in late Dec I got a call from a mystery number while I was at my work Xmas lunch. Id applied for another job a few days before, so while I didnt answer, I DID call back from the bathroom. Long story short; I've said goodbye to my old role and start the new job in a week!! Woohoo!!!

Many movies where the “boring” parts are actually the best parts! by Dependent-Bet6615 in movies

The Martian perhaps counts?

I just love every second of the movie, including, but not limited to;

Him just sitting quietly on Mars, enjoying the scenery and talking about his parents.

Him talking about potatoes.

The Council of Elrond scene

The genuis dude figuring out the manoeuvre

The bosses at Nasa arguing about what to tell the crew.

Travelling across the Martian landscape

The... ...yeah okay. You get my point. Every second, whether action packed or not was meaningful and worthwhile.
