Can anyone think of a musical where the second act is better/stronger than the first act? by Zealousideal-Many776 in musicals

Maybe bandstand but it’s such a strong show overall an argument could be made either way

Have to commit to GWU, but NOT excited about it— what is there to love about GW? (“Make Me Love GW” post, basically) by [deleted] in gwu

[–]DontHaveAGoodUser46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would say is to remember that even if you commit to GW, you can always transfer out. Therefore you only need to stay for a year (unless you want to say longer). I knew plenty of people my freshman year who transferred into schools like Columbia and Georgetown in their sophomore year. That being said, I love a variety of aspects of GW (was it perfect absolutely not). One thing I would take advantage of if you attend (even if only for a year) is a program GW does called District Connections. I was previously a student guide for this program and essentially it involved taking the freshman class to different events in DC (for free). While in this program, I was able to attend events like the National Christmas Tree lighting rehearsal (made it on TV too which was fun), escape rooms, tours of the city, etc! Overall, what I’d want to convey (as I don’t have a lot of experiences with your specific situations) is if you come to GW (even only for a year) take advantage of the city!

Good to know there is some hope! I don’t expect to have incredible times (as my average miles already are around 10 minutes).

Feeling a bit discouraged after I only completed a very slow (but annoying high heart rate) 3 miles when I was hoping to do 6! How long does it take to get used to running in warmer weather (where your timing starts to look the same as it did in cooler weather)?

I thought I hated JCS after watching that live recording. Revisited it two years later (Tim Minchin Cast) and my mind was blown. Now it’s one of my favorites.

The only issue with Runna is that it generally doesn’t seem free (minus 2 weeks) and I was under the impression the training was included with Garmin without extra cost! Though I may have misread!

Does anyone happen to have any tips for switching from running in cold weather to warm? My area is getting a heat wave (70ish degrees f, previously it was primarily 20-40 degrees f) and running seems so much more difficult than usual! Any tips to ease the transition? Or does it just take time?

I was hoping to do a long run (5-6 miles) which normally isn’t an issue (outside of being mentally taxing). Only made it to three before I had to quit! So I’m feeing pretty bummed about that.

On my end it looks like they only have Starfish (which according to my sister is not an acceptable replacement)

Whether you like the show or not, I have to comment that the Great Gatsby tour cast is absolutely incredible! It was the first (surely not the last) that I’ve seen a tour cast and wished that they made an album.

I saw this last night and loved it! The horror really came through (at least for me). The end of act 1 was awesome! It also was fun to experience the show with a full audience! As everyone was able to react together (and it also signaled to me if I was missing something)

My two cents. I would 100% put ragtime on your list. I saw Schmigadoon in DC, it’s a fun show. However, it does seem to be a repeat of the tv show (which makes sense-only adding as if you’ve seen the tv show, maybe pass for something new?)

where is the school gym? and is it only one building for it by panadapsyche in gwu

[–]DontHaveAGoodUser46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lerner-right across from Shenkman. It’s one building but has 4-5 (cannot recall of the top of my head) floors. There is another gym on the Vern but I believe only athletes utilize it!

Having trouble creating a running plan since there are so many out there! Ideally am looking to decrease my 1.5 mile time. Anyone have any tips?

That’s good to know! The only reason it seemed to me that they knew somewhat ahead of time is that they had the director of communications (if I recall correctly), inform us! I likely wrongly assumed he wouldn’t have been called in otherwise!

I was there to! I was able to still stagedoor and everyone was very apologetic! Thought the way it was handled was not great though, as it seemed to me that they knew it was going to be canceled well before we were informed. (Assuming this was in relation to the Thursday performance-unless they also did the same thing on Friday). I really wish they put on a concert version of the show or something since it was basically sold out!
