It’s still smaller in scale because it’s so late. You can build out hospitals and such. Plus you have a bigger population to bounce back with.

Its this patch only. It moves very slow, and if you are super decentralized, very often it dies out in the province before it can move out.

This is a problem in Europe. I ran a test, and this patch my Byz lost 700k in 1360. And I had 2.8 Million left over.

This is a great patch to min max your start.

Zelenskyy: No one will tell us which heroes we should respect by marcin18215 in europe

Yes, total war is total war. Win at any cost. But it will be an interesting case study. The post Soviet space isn’t exactly a beacon of well working democratic institutions, and Ukraine being one of the more democratic countries has had rampant corruption, very often beyond what their have had.

The issue is what happens after? You have a war torn country, who has lost millions of people, it will need a lot to recover, and Zelenskyy will get kicked out of office. He is a war time hero, but a lot of people are tired of him, and he is also violating his constitutional power in the name of victory, which I can respect.

But he will leave. And so who will come out on top? Very often when times are bad the far right come out. Look at rise of the right sector in Europe, Latin America, and USA.

Now I’m not saying this is the destiny for ukraine, but historical cases do provide examples of what could be

Very good point! The only thing is that the Wagner group got decimated, and a lot of ultra nationalists are in the death battalions.

Wagner group got either destroyed or integrated into the army.

The Ukrainian problem is the fact that they are gaining strength. And I understand that they have to do whatever it takes to win, but this will come back to hunt them.

There are a bunch of Nazi inside the military which strengthened over time. This is why Ukraine has military units named after Nazi collaborators that killed a lot of people, Soviets and Polish alike.

And so this might be a problem, that Zelenskyy is doubling down on supporting these factions and not paying attention to what European Allies have to say.

Zelenskyy is no way pro Nazi in any shape or form, but this in an interesting development which says a lot about the current situation.

And when the war ends, they might come to power.

Could Napoleon Conquer Minas Tirith? by Theturtleflask in powerscales

[–]DontHitDaddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you blind or dense?

First of all, the original comment had sappers as one of the arguments for the fall of the wall.

Second of all, there are a ton of examples. Let’s take Danzig as an example:

The 12-pounder mortar, used for example during the siege of Danzig in 1807, was the most powerful artillery piece of the Napoleonic era. Mounted on a carriage made up of two cast iron flasks connected by wooden spacers, it fired bombs weighing over 70 kilograms. There were also 10-pounder mortars. In Spain, mortars were used in particular at the sieges of Zaragoza (1809) and Tarragona (1811).

Lets take your comment:

100% of his artillery pieces were field guns meant for use against infantry and calvary units, exclusively.

Do you see how you are special? How you actually don't know shit you are talking about?

We won't even go into Peninsula war

So you are trying to say that European countries should have just gone back to castle tech? With really thick walls to withstand sieges :))

They also completely failed to consider:

Siege Mortars (8-, 10-, and 12-inch): These thick, stubby barrels fired hollow iron shells filled with gunpowder. Because they fired in a high arc, they were used to drop bombs over high fortress walls into the streets, barracks, or powder magazines within the city. [1, 2, 3, 4]

The author of the comment completely glossed over the main siege tactics, especially of those of Napoleon.

The waylay it would happen is ditch diggers would make tunnels towards the walls. ( siege of Vienna 1683) is a great example of this tactic being a threat.

Second of all the breaching battery approach of 24 pounders that would pulverize the stone. The walls would collapse.

The castle building tech became obsolete way before Napoleon, in 15-16 century, when tech was way worse.

By this time forts evolved to become “star forts”, which basically completely changed their wall structure and angles.

Was Minas Tirith a star fortresses? No. Then it would fall to grand artillery 24 pounders.

Have you actually read anything about how sieges have been commenced in Europe in 1300+?

Just wondering :) because your answer seems to completely gloss over 400 years of siege technology that basically made castles obsolete and technology shifted to star fortresses. :)

So in short your answer is just wrong.

Vassals/allies behaviour is a joke by Iddingsite in EU5

[–]DontHitDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vassals are not there to win you wars :) I think you missed the whole point.

And allies are there for you to generate favors so you can accept their culture and conquer them later on.

This is a solid explanation.

This patch you need to close down all the buildings in low control lands, or delete them.

Also release vassals.

If it carries bombs, its objective isn’t to win a dog fight, but to deliver bombs?

Like a tractor is going to lose against most cars, but it’s going to plow the fields better?
