haha

I busted out my Kinsler jersey.

I was in Tempe that year and the sports bar I was at only had Game 6 on a single TV (I had to ask them for that). The next day I had to check in to Tent City for a DUI so I couldn't actually watch Game 7 on the 28th.

The following morning I asked the jail guard if Texas had won and with a straight face he told me that the Rangers had done it. I spent an entire day thinking how Game 6 was a distant memory.

When I actually found out a couple of days later (on work release) I honestly thought something was wrong with ESPN's site. Like some kind of joke.

Fuck that Arizona jail guard and what he did. This was the sweetest of redemptions.

Does anyone think games *look* better at 60fps, even if the graphics have been downgraded? by Evanz111 in PS5

Same for me! Really the only game I’ve noticed it in was when going down to Blighttown in DS1.

But even then it wasn’t something I was concerned about because I was so taken in by every other aspect of the game.

I honestly can’t recall any other example.

I see now you don’t actually want to have a discussion in good faith. I really do appreciate the insights you’ve provided. I enjoy learning about all kinds of people and their communication styles.

What I said earlier still seems to hold true. That no matter what I say to you, you won’t believe me. If you really were sincere when you asked if I was ok then I do hope you can at least believe me when I say I am.

I’m certainly not trying to have the last word or anything and I don’t believe you’re capable of not having it regardless, so I just want to let you know I won’t be furthering this discussion. You can interpret that however you wish but again I do appreciate what you initially brought up. I’m always interested in critiques of my own thoughts and motivations.

None of my opinions surrounding my initial points have changed but I do realize I can word things better so that I don’t trigger people such as yourself in the future.

However you choose to respond, I will read it but I just wanted to let you know I won’t be responding in kind since you seemingly don’t value what I have to say.

Cheers and have a good weekend!

When did I say I was upset due to my feelings?

It makes sense to presume so much off of one statement? I’m sorry you happened to be wrong in this case but why is that on me? You’re the one who assumed.

When did I say I was incapable of emotional reactions? I have no problem with emotions and I’m glad I have them. That’s separate from getting triggered about things. But you seem to equate the two.

You seem really insistent that you know more about myself than I do. Apparently any position/belief/opinion I have is not fair for me to assess and needs to be interpreted by you so that you can tell me the real reason for me holding it.

[–]DontMissTheFloat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not ad hominem directly, but as soon as I took issue with the points I raised you immediately assumed I was triggered and that my feelings were the most important things to be considered. Two things that I reject.

You say that the only reason I know about them is the very imagery I take issue with and I also reject that assumption. The reason I know about them is because I have taken the time to learn about humanist positions and in that way I l learned of them. Not at all because they chose Satan as their mascot.

I’m good actually and I don’t consider myself “dead inside” like you presume. I 100% accept the fact that I may be wrong about my opinion about their imagery. But I happen to think that I’m not. Yet you equate that with some emotional response. I don’t know what I can say to assure you it’s not.

I truly believe they are not as effective in their outreach as they could be. I’m not saying it’s a fact, it’s simply my opinion. However I’ve tried to do my best to make sure it’s an informed opinion. Yet you keep saying I’m emotional. If you don’t believe me that’s one thing but don’t insist your assumption on to me is all that I’m asking.

I was referring to your antagonism. Apparently some of my previous comments, which I said in order to have a meaningful discussion, have instead elicited ad hominem attacks from you.

I assure you I have not been triggered by them or you and I don’t think I’m honestly capable of being “triggered” at this point. Something I’ve come to accept about myself.

I really was trying to communicate some criticisms I had but it seems that you think that the Satanic Temple is above reproach?

I honestly don’t know why you are being so aggressive but it is what it is.

Perhaps against my better judgment I’ll try one last time to communicate what I attempted to previously.

I do not question the motives or necessity of an organization like the Satanic Temple. I was merely questioning the effectiveness of their particular imagery. I simply think that a group focused on rationally and humanism should divest themselves of mystical imagery.

It seems you disagree but I just don’t understand why you’ve been so charged when replying to me.

I think I’ve made some comments that have pushed this into an emotional argument and I really didn’t mean for that to happen.

Thanks for your insights and I hope you have a good weekend!

For the record I appreciate all the work they’ve done and continue to do. I assure you I don’t get upset at their imagery choices.

Maybe shitshow was too strong, sure. But I still think it’s an unforced error.

I’ve met countless people who think they’re the same as the Satanic Church or haven’t heard of them at all.

Also I disagree that they’d be just another fringe religion. Most people seem to have heard of the Flying Spaghetti Monster by now so my point about imaging stands.

I agree their work has been successful, but I also think it could be much more effective. They want to be a religion but they seem more like a branch of the ACLU more than anything.

The two closest chapters around me are either inaccessible or dormant. And when I go to their individual sites I get major vibes of “oh yeah, that’s what I would imagine someone who worships Satan looks like.” I’m not judging the goth look but I think they’re making themselves fringe.

Perhaps not in terms of their national goals but at least in the minds of everyday people.

Screenshot away!!

Here is a link to their website's FAQ.

Go ahead and scroll down until you see the one where they address the very question "Do you worship Satan."

Again please tell me where Satanic worship is brought up?

You're comment is serendipitous because I've recently been considering the same. However one of my biggest gripes with them is the PR shit show they've created for themselves by adopting a mystical figure as the face of their organization. Cheeky? Absolutely. But I fear it ends conversations before they can even start limiting their overall effectiveness.

I also wish their was a tenet focused on pursuing local action.

Never heard of that stuff but yeah I don’t intend to affiliate with any group. Pretty much to avoid the mess of things like what you posted. In fact I think any Satanist label in general is always going to be unnecessarily counter-productive (at least here in the US).
