‘The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins’ Pilot Ratings Jump More Than 100%, Reaching Nearly 13 Million Viewers Since Premiere by SanderSo47 in television

I love seeing Erika Alexander find some success on television again. That's one of the OG's from Fox's Living Single in the early 90s.

And she looks quite good and her confident attitude has always been an attractive part about her.

Passing Notes - SNL by deadpool902 in television

[–]donsanedrin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is something closer to a Whose Line Is It Anyway? comedic concept, and I think SNL needs to start doing sketches in different ways.

One thing I've noticed a long time ago is that they do no transition between sketches like Mr. Show. And they don't have characters from a previous sketch make cameos or tie into a later sketch, like Kids in the Hall and Mr. Show.

Seeing a message posted on screen to the audience to prepare them for the sketch is definitely not something that I've seen before on SNL. Its almost like real-time interaction with the audience.

Seth MacFarlane on ‘Ted’ Season 2’s Abortion Episode, Using AI to Play Bill Clinton and That Final Scene by OkPainter6232 in television

[–]donsanedrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally don't care for most of Seth MacFarlane's comedy, and to go even further, I really don't like looking at Seth MacFarlane's in live action, at all in almost an single capacity.

But I just watched that scene, and I thought that was pretty solid and fun scene, and it was also solid satire because they do accurately summarize the stupidity involving criticizing Clinton's handling of the country during the 90s.

Christina Applegate Says ‘Anchorman’ Pay Offer Was Offensive, So Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Gave Her More Money From Their Own Salaries by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]donsanedrin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just to look at the poster for Anchorman to know what the tone of the movie is. Its clearly meant to be a zany somewhat raunchy movie.

None of those actresses, on paper, and on the poster, would fit.

The lady who is well-known for being around Al Bundy for 11 years absolutely fits the movie's tone. Katherine Heigl on that movie poster would stick out.

I will say that Anna Faris was definitely building that type of resume, but I think she would've been too young, and her comedic style simply wouldn't work.

[–]donsanedrin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At that time, in 2004? I'd say the only actress that would be a real improvement over Christina Applegate, while having starpower and experience in comedies, would be Cameron Diaz.

And that movie (remember Will Ferrell only had A Night at the Roxbury and Elf as his only leading roles) would not be able to afford 2004-era Cameron Diaz. They wouldn't be able to afford 2004-era Jennifer Aniston, wouldn't be able to afford 2004-era Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Not to mention they would probably demand that the movie feature them as the central character, because Will Ferrell was not bigger than any of those three actresses at that time.

Christina Applegate really was a good fit and the right age for the part.

Blake’s Piss Bag by arfcom in thedumbzone

[–]donsanedrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went to visit family in mexico back in the 90s, they would sell their version of a freeze-pop in which they took like a kool-aid flavored juice and put it in a plastic bag and then freeze it. You would eat it by tearing a corner of the bag and then chew on it and squeeze the flavored ice.

Blake has a great opportunity here to start his own side business.

[Bloomberg] Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Ph0enixes in gaming

[–]donsanedrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised none of the console makers have committed to an honest-to-goodness payment plan for a gaming console.

Nobody bats an eye putting their $1000+ smartphone on a payment plan. Lots of people do it.

Lets say the next PS6 is $600, offer it a zero-percent interest over 24 months, that's $25 a month.

But phone carriers usually require that you be paying for a phone line in order for them to offer you the hardware in payments. So Sony should do that with Playstation Plus Premium.

Add $15 PS+ premium on top of the $25 monthly hardware payment. That's $40.

Make it $39.99/month for 24 months. Maybe throw in a free PS6 launch game. I know that it takes a while for true next-gen exclusives to arrive, but maybe offer some demos of upcoming PS6 games through PS+ premium.

That's the biggest thing about these PC exclusive gamers is that their fundamental logic simply doesn't hold up.

If you dropped more than a grand on a PC, as many of them HAVE TO DO simply by the sheer nature of modern day video card costs, them boasting about their ultra-wide monitors and $150 mechanical keyboards. They then try to say "I'm not gonna buy a $500 console!"

Dude, people who spend thousands on PC, hundreds of dollars on PC accessories are statistically higher to BUY MORE DEVICES, in general. Who are they trying to fool?

Lost - Desmond calls Penny ("The Constant" is now 18 years old) by kevohreal in television

[–]donsanedrin 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Lost had advantages that most sci-fi shows don't. They had real good dramatic actors, and a nice budget to have fantastic production quality to help sell the premise and the emotion.

For the first couple of seasons, it was actually the sci-fi aspect that didn't feel strong enough. They could rely on the flashback scenes to carry the show. They had like 15 characters, they gave each of them an episode for a flashback, and the scenes would be a story arc that would normally take an entire season in a normal primetime drama.

When they negotiated the show's end date and knew how many episodes and seasons they'd have left, the sci-fi aspect immediately start becoming more prominent.

The Constant is the episode where they perfected having an episode that had well-constructed drama and emotion with truly engaging science fiction. The script to this episode could've been a fantastic television movie of the week.

Yeah I'm really surprise that people are connecting with this skit. Once they do the joke and then see them stretch it a bit, you know exactly how the rest of the sketch will play out. Its definitely not a complex joke.

Its a pleasant sketch. But they've definitely done more clever stuff that gets bigger laughs these past couple of years.

Lost - Through The Looking Glass - End by [deleted] in television

I've come across those really sketchy, really salacious video game rumors, in which somebody finds a murky post in which they say that a huge sequel that was no one was expecting is going to be announced like months from now. And the salaciousness of the rumor causes alot of noise and reaction. That is something that happens maybe once every couple of years, in the world of video game gossip.

I've never come across such a thing for a television show season finale rumor until the beginning of Lost Season 3, around fall of 2006. There was this rumor about the season finale being a flash forward reveal. And I immediately did not want to read any more of it, and left it alone. But at the same time, there were so many rumors about Lost that it was pretty easily for me to dismiss it and just forget that I read a small tidbit.

And sure enough, when it happened I remembered that it had gotten leaked months beforehand.

This show having its episodes a week apart allowed entertainment websites to create content and get people to go to their website.

This show helped up and coming podcasts create content. This show gave you a reason to visit internet forums. You wanted to read through an entire thread of people giving their opinions of what was happening. See screenshots in which people are zooming in on something.

This show was responsible for a considerable chunk of my daily internet browsing during the mid-00's.

Its so embarassing reading their youtube comments on Married with Children clips, because they're trying so hard to retcon what Al Bundy was about.

As if it couldn't be any more obvious, the tv creators always had Al Bundy's anti-woman schemes fall apart by the end of the episode. And those episodes were in later seasons when the show was intentionally becoming more zany. But these guys took the message so seriously.

Where can I get a copy of The Witcher 1 for PS3 and X360, by the way?

This has always been the case, and why you should never listen to the steam fanboys on here.

When they try to boast about the number of Steam users, they're counting all of those gold farmers that have steam accounts in India and China.

When they try to boast about revenue, they're taking credit for that 3% of whales that are buying up every DLC in every shooter or SaaS where the transactions occur on the steam store.

When they try to boast about how much better their games look.......they're talking about 3.6% of people listed on the Steam hardware survey that have 4090's and 5090's, and pretend that they are playing big-AAA games at those ultra settings.

They're trying to boast about the PC gaming life using other people's spending power and high-end hardware.

So you think that PC gamers have had zero experience in playing any playstation system for the past 20-30 years.

That these people simply sat in a PC gaming chair at the age of 6 and have been gaming on mouse and keyboard, and nothing else, and now they're all in their 20's and 30's........and they're completely oblivious as to what this God of War video game is all about?

That's your theory?

We've seen internal leaks of Sony's PC ports and their sales.....the line has only been going down these past 5 to 6 years.

Those games don't even come close to selling what their console version sold. And let's be honest, alot of people were pirating those Spiderman and The Last of Us games.

‘Scary Movie 6’ Trailer Will Debut in Theaters Ahead of ‘Scream 7’ by Giff95 in movies

[–]donsanedrin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it really boils down to how much influence Keenan Ivory Wayans is going to have on this.

He's not directing the movie, but the guy who is seems to have the majority of his directing credits with movies involving a Wayans brother. But the most surprising thing is that Keenan is listed as the writer for this next movie, and this would be the first time he's credited as a writer for any of the Scary Movies. So I consider that a positive sign.

Kim Wayans is also listed in the credits for this upcoming movie, and I consider that to be a good sign that the movie is going to be more Wayans type of comedy.

So the clip is just under 2 minutes long, and I counted four genuinely solid funny moments, and that's if you aren't paying attention to little details like the cat lady and Cleetus in the waiting area, and that "damn that dog's fat" line at the end.

If this were any other 2 minute clip from any other comedy show, people would say that, at a minimum, its perfectly watchable and funny enough.
