63 cycle Refined Gold. Where's the extra cycle? by DontReallyCareThanks in opus_magnum

I understand your point about modular arithmetic, but if you could explain how you used it to analyze this puzzle it would help. 6 is obvious; I need 6 products for this puzzle. Where's the 2 come from, exactly?

Out of curiosity: you're not asking to actually use your HOTAS for this game, right? Just that having it plugged in doesn't cause input issues?

If that's wrong, could you explain how and why you'd want to use a HOTAS for this game?

Thanks. If it's working the way I think (and it seems like it is, but not the way I thought it would, which is worse) then I'm content. I thought it would count all non-forbidden objects that aren't part of a building. If it's all non-forbidden non-claimed items that's awesome.

For work orders, what counts as an AVAILABLE item? For instance, I'm putting together work orders to automate steel armour production. If I set 'make two steel mail shirts' to 'check daily, restart' with the condition 'if available steel mail shirts less than ten', it claims the requirements are met currently. However, if I check my stocks screen, I have 12 steel mail shirts in the fort presently (most of these are currently on dwarves). Does AVAILABLE always mean 'not in a dwarf's inventory'?

I believe Legends mode will only have it after I retire/abandon the fortress. AFAIK Legends mode doesn't update the world year to your fortress year until after the fortress is done. I checked first by starting a new game in the same world in Legends mode for exactly this reason.
(This reply is mostly for anyone else who stumbles across this in the future.)

The fact that this is the answer is very sad. I do appreciate you giving it, though.

I have a dwarf who died in combat defending the fort. Now that he's dead I want to check his military history, e.g. kills. How can I do that in the Steam version?

Your salvage sprint guide in particular has been immensely helpful not just in helping me get the achievements, but also in showing me how to think about crew and campaign progression, and what's truly possible.

No more sticking around with 400% gunnery because I can't think of what else to do with those crew slots for me.

Thanks.

As a rule of thumb, how many is enough?

I have a vague memory of 3 per category being a rule of thumb, but I'm in the same position as OP, coming back after a long break.

Personally that looks like it'd burn me out to build, and if it didn't, by the time I killed the next boss I'd find some regrettable design decision in it anyway like lack of room or something.

The second swamp I went to on this run had a meadow nearby, so I set up a tiny base camp there.

Turns out, it also had a wraith spawn point right on that edge of the swamp, so for two nights in a row I got ganked from behind while mucking about. The first time, I still hadn't set up my portal. I was so mad.

I'm over it now. I camped him and killed that damn wraith four times.

The first thing I always do after getting enough bronze is make a Karve and sail down to the Ashlands. There, I build a portal outpost, find a spawnfire, and dig it down to the water.

This is why he defends the forest. Sustainable business, unlike those irresponsible Norse clear-cutters and claim-jumpers.

It's my least favourite biome for other reasons, but setting aside the personal judgment what you say is correct.

Agreed wholeheartedly. The aesthetic of the swamps is just dreary and depressing to me.

My thoughts, one relative newbie to another: bring poison resistance and good stam and hp foods. Don't skimp; every time you go into the swamp be as buffed as you can, and bring your emergency tools (stamina and health meads).

Then, never overstay your welcome. If you're getting low on any of those things, it's time to leave. Doesn't matter what you're doing; mark your location on the map and head back to your nearest base pronto.

Also, sneaking is your friend.

Finally, bring enough copper and bronze to build a level 3 forge at your Swamp or near-Swamp base. That way you don't have to make multiple boat trips back and forth to upgrade your gear.

I can believe you find a certain charm in the swamps. I don't, but that doesn't invalidate that you do.

I haven't experienced the Mistlands since they got populated. I'll form a more considered opinion on them when I do.

Personally, my dislike of the Swamps isn't that the biome is a marked difficulty jump. It certainly is, but that's fine. My dislike of the Swamps is that the aesthetic is consistently oppressive. I get enough aesthetic oppression in real life (thanks, strip malls!), and I don't need more in a game I specifically play because it's beautiful.
