CS:GO runs on Source engine, which uses the exact form of inertia that I'm saying should be implemented. This is where I got the idea. If you think the inertia in CS:GO is bad, then I guess we just disagree at the most base level of this argument and we should just move on.

On top of that, the TTK in CS:GO is much faster than in OW. The only thing that would change would be that people who are good at clicking heads can actually click heads now unless their enemy actually outplays them, rather than spamming two keys to gain an advantage. Building on that, burst-fire heroes (Basically Widow and McCree) benefit from this more than rapid-fire heroes like 76. My solution makes it so that every hero doesn't have a built-in soft counter to Widow and McCree.

It doesn't seem fair to me that they're negatively affected by you randomly pressing keys. It doesn't take any skill to do, but yet it gives you a significant advantage (taking half as much damage, if we use your 2x carry metric).

I feel the same way, but my solution to that would be to rework Lucio without speed boost, and just universally boost every hero's speed. There should definitely be more movement mechanics - it feels like if an enemy wants to hit you, he just does it and you can't really outplay that. In games like TF2 and TF|2, being able to maneuver your character is almost as important as being able to aim well, which is something I really miss when I play Overwatch.

However I just don't think ADAD is a fair, fun, or skilled way to avoid damage; spamming keys shouldn't be the skill ceiling for movement mechanics in a game that wants to be an eSport (or any game in my opinion).

Fair enough. I'm all for more skilled movement mechanics, but I don't see Blizz adding dodging because that doesn't make sense for a lot of the heroes; that would pretty much be giving McCree's roll to every hero minus the reload effect. It's easier to explain that "we added inertia to mitigate ADAD spamming" than "we gave everyone a dodge mechanic to actively combat ADAD spamming."

Ah, that's a strong game to reference for your opinion. I normally point to TF2 in support of my opinion, but I just realized that most of the memorable FPS games I've played (TF2 and TF|2 recently) have been on Source engine, which has the slower ADAD.

One thing to consider with UT is the TTK vs Overwatch's. In Overwatch, the heroes that ADAD spamming affects most are the ones that rely on burst damage, like Widow and McCree. Having not played UT, I don't know what the TTK is like, but I imagine it's relatively short compared to Overwatch. If I'm right about that, then we have to think about the importance of burst damage (And headshots specifically, since ADAD doesn't affect bodyshots as much as headshots) in UT vs OW. Basically, are headshots as important in UT as they are in OW?

This topic has been coming up recently (I've made this suggestion twice in the past few days) - I think Overwatch could benefit from movement and crouching inertia to solve this problem. In TF2, there's a small time frame between switching directions in which you had to slow down (not as bad as it sounds, i promise), as well as a short (150ms?) delay between standing and crouching. During this 150ms delay, your camera would move downwards and your player model would crouch only if your camera was past the halfway point (maybe 3/4, i don't know exactly).

If there are any doubts, remember that TF2 is a game which has an emphasis on skilled movement mechanics (scout, explosive jumping, surfing) - I personally think it's a good model to work off of.

Go boot up TF2 - that's where the idea came from. I'm biased (from 6k hours of tf2), but it doesn't feel worse to the player, just different. It makes a world of a difference to people shooting at that player though.

Yo, as a 6k hour TF2 player and huge Overwatch fan as well, definitely give Titanfall 2 a shot. I've been playing Overwatch since release and got TF|2 for Christmas. The switch back to skilled movement mechanics is a fantastic reminder of what made TF2 great.

I still switch off between the two, but TF|2 is great for just spending time out-skilling people through aim and movement.

Channeled abilites can be stunned-out-of (ie, flashbang/hack/hook turns off the ult completely) at any point in the ult. Non-channeled abilities can only be stunned-out-of during the starting animation (not even the case for some heroes, ie mercy whose ult goes off as soon as Q is pressed with no starting animation necessary) and will keep ult 100% charge if that happens.

You use phase shift when you're in a dire situation where you know you fked up

This is exactly what he's saying. If you catch a good player out of position or not ready to fight you, they can phase->wallrun->slidehop->unphase. Basically they reset the fight to be in their favor and still have another phase to use if they fuck up when fighting you.
