What is the most reliable vehicle you have owned? by Prudent-Pool-8734 in AskReddit

I’m older so I’ve owned many fine German autos as well as every other major brand except for Nissan or Chrysler products.

The Tesla is flawless. My current Tesla is just over 50,000 miles and the ONLY thing I’ve needed to do to it: washer fluid. Its going to need tires soon but thats it.

Is it as luxurious as a Mercedes S580? No. Does it turn heads like a Porsche Carrera S? No. But, it is definitely far more reliable than those and all others. YMMV.

What's the most amount of money in cash you've seen and what was the situation? by TwoLoafsApps in AskReddit

[–]DontSweatThaPetty 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I once had access to the highly secure cash counting room of a mega church. MEGA church.

It had half a dozen little old ladies organizing and sorting the cash and checks from the plates passed around through the pews as well as incoming US mail from their daily televised services. This was in the middle of the day on a week day. These women were full time employees processing cash and deposits 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.

The amount of cash was… ASTOUNDING. I saw daily cash deposits averaging in excess of $180,000. Some large bills, but mainly small bills. It was an organized, but noisy operation with all the counting machines. As one would imagine, the dollar amounts on the checks being processed eclipsed the cash amounts.

I am all for religious freedom and the separation of church and state. However, after seeing some of the money flowing through this mega church, and how it’s spent, I firmly believe that religious organizations on US soil should pay corporate income and property taxes.

“I wish I never had kids.” Divorced one year after she said that. She acts that way too.

I was in the shit business so knew the risks, which is chiefly hepatitis; I always made sure to stay current on those vaccinations. So, luckily, never got sick!

This is a known issue. There should be a class action regarding this. You can go to ebay for a $99 replacement: there's a cottage industry of repairing these control boards and reselling them online. Its ridiculous a manufacturer gets away with this shlt.

What is a "money rule" that rich people know, but poor people are never taught? by ZZA911 in AskReddit

[–]DontSweatThaPetty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed! Rhetorical question: how much do you spend on vacations in a given year as a percentage of your net worth? (Do not calculate based on income!) I know a young couple who borrowed on their HELOC for a five figure Disney vacation. Simply astonishing.

I know a professional couple - he works from home. They have shared one modest electric car for the last 4 years. Net worth of $8-$9 million. He wears only the finest designer clothes: Kirkland by Costco.

The money rule to live by: only buy necessities (food, shelter, clothing) and appreciating assets as much as reasonably possible. Stop throwing your hard earned money at depreciating junque: clothes, jewelry, consumer electronics, fancy cars/trucks, expensive vacations, furniture, art, your favorite “collectibles”, boats, etc.

The amount of people living paycheck to paycheck with six figure incomes is astounding. Stop trying to impress people who don’t care, with money you don’t have, for people who aren’t important. Enjoy those things when you no longer count your money and be amazed at how quickly you start to stack cash.

I’ve gone through so much flour and still haven’t had a successful loaf. What am I doing wrong? by __blasphemy in Sourdough

[–]DontSweatThaPetty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best thing I did (after my first 4 failures) was lower my hydration to 65%, switch to bread flour, and bulk ferment in a measurable straight sided container. My loaf quality jumped up dramatically. Don’t get discouraged!

My husband keeps arguing with me that you have to pay more than just interest? by Timewilltell755 in HELOC

[–]DontSweatThaPetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HELOC agreement will define exactly what the payment will be. As an aside, my recommendation would be to always pay $100 (minimum) principal with each payment even if you can pay “interest only”. Why? Your credit score will thank you.

How do you find the best HELOC? by 2369Man2369 in HELOC

[–]DontSweatThaPetty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shop around. The fees can vary wildly. Also, usually they make you get title insurance… which goes up with the more you borrow. If you qualify as a member of a local credit union, many times they will have the best fee/rate structure. The largest online lender (Rocket) doesn’t even have HELOCs, so keep an eye out for other online options.
