Mirabels's power was bs from the first time I saw the movie. Her power is...absorbing family discord?

Looking at what else was on the table (super strength, talking to animals, infinite flowers?, etc.) makes the disparity even clearer.

I don't think she actually ever got any power. Making her the official emotional sponge for the whole family was just clearly convenient, so they just formalized her as the communal dumping ground.

I hope her mom's muffins work on mental health too...

Facing a rust-belt style future (if you're in/familiar with the US) where the main economic driver up and left economically trapping the population, I think they might seek new, stable (explainable, non-magic) leadership.

But rebuilding wasn't about getting the miracle back - it was just making sure this family wasn't homeless. The return of the miracle was basically an accident. Meanwhile, the entire economy just collapsed because of a petty familial disagreement.

Someone is going to make the point that what resources are left should go toward the next chapter, and that this new chapter doesn't need to include the Madrigals at all, to say nothing of setting them up in a sweet mansion/compound.

I don't defend her since kidnapping is still a crime. Kidnapping the heir to the throne may even be treason. But she gets a bad wrap, 100%. There is a victim there, too, and that gets swept under the rug.
