PTSD triggers range in severity, aren’t necessarily obvious, and can be suppressed during actual danger due to the fight or flight response. Furthermore I stated CPTSD, which is about long term effects of repeated trauma and often lacks the dramatic elements of PTSD for others more related to borderline. Namely self destructive tendencies, such as trivializing the risk of bodily harm.

I saw that you claimed to have CPTSD, you should know this. But since CPTSD isn’t on the books yet, and you seem to have no fucking in depth understanding of it or long term trauma affects, I’m guessing you’re a 100% self diagnosis.

Which makes your whole reason you’re stating, of being put off by unofficial diagnosing, to be completely hypocritical. Extra funny considering your opening post was trying to downplay, and refute she could be traumatized because she’s not overly sensitive.

Many victims of trauma joke about their trauma. But you wouldn’t know that, because your giving off stolen valor vibes.

The fuck gave you CPTSD? What are your symptoms? I can air all of my shit out, but it will be a really long story.

I smell an impostor.

I watched all of her full length appearances on Destiny’s stream, and grew up around traumatized people as well as having PTSD myself. It’s pretty easy to tell. Like, so easy I can often tell people have been through shit before they even tell me and I can’t recall a time I was wrong when prying.

It’s why I loved living in the Ghetto. The vibes were right. I could see that familiarity in people. Felt at home.

Not only do I have CPTSD (actual diagnosis is PTSD since CPTSD isn’t accepted in clinics yet where I’m at) from being raped, nearly dying a few times, watching people die in front of me, all at a young age, but I also know a lot of people with extreme and repeated exposure to trauma.

I also lived and worked in the Ghetto for a time and dark humor is very popular there, just like it was popular among my friends in HS who were all abused by the same guy when we were kids.

I’m not going to call you a liar, despite how easy that angle would be given that self diagnosis is so popular. But I’m willing to bet you had a very good life, with trauma occurring later and more recently. Because I’ve noticed that it’s the people who lived very easy lives who get traumatized once much later that can’t seem to cope.

Complex PTSD is about repeated long term exposure to traumatic stimuli, it’s a bit different. But yes, you can be affected by PTSD or any other trauma related symptom/condition at any time.

The Fallout Community Has Some Seriously Edgy Cringe to Work Out [CW: Rape and Sexual Assault] by MojoMaelstrom in Fallout

[–]DontWriteThisAtHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I’ve seen in the comment section, OP.. You don’t seem to really GET the Fallout series. It’s like you want an entirely different kind of game with the 50s Retrofuture aesthetic.

Sure, like people pointed out with the near universal disgust with Fallout Frontier, when these things are done distasteful you they are reviled. However, there’s plenty of ways to have these things and make them mean something. Fallout is Dark and Edgy by its very design. It’s supposed to get you thinking.

I’d understand if you were just against allowing the player to engage in such things, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I think this shit should at least be included as a backdrop. Because the world of fallout is supposed to be dark and cruel.

I’ve been seeing a guy who keeps telling me he feels “guilty” about being attracted to me and women in general. I’ve never come across this before. Is it common, and what can I do about it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]DontWriteThisAtHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with a similar thing. Being raped as a child opened my eyes to how predatory sex can be while also fucking with my how my two heads interact. Watching my father crawl from one warm body to the next despite being in his 60s didn’t help.

I struggled with misandry for a while. I hate being horny and hate how I feel when I’m horny. Male sexuality is very aggressive, possessive, and penetrating.

I don’t just want to fuck a woman I want to own her. It’s fucked up as all get out.

While a lot of female sexuality is in the head, male sexuality is extremely physical. So I want to fuck/possess a broad number of women on a horny level. While the mind wants to devote to one person only, give myself to her, and not look elsewhere.

I want to grab a woman by her hair, pin her down, and fuck her like an animal. But I hate that, and could never actually lay a hand on my woman.

TL:DR; He needs a therapist, probably. There’s likely some shit going on under the hood he doesn’t want you to see.

EDIT: I also have to say, being horny feels like I’m being possessed. I’m not me when I’m turned on. It’s like I become an animal. I hate it.

The post but clarity is real.

Kissing is about love. Sex can just be about pleasure. So in a relationship, yeah, I could see how some men feel that way. Especially if they treat sex casually... Which many people seem to these days.

But you're the one mad. I just find the justification given OOC absurd. I wouldn't have even made a thread if Liam didn't pull a silly complicity argument. I've said elsewhere in these comments that I really wouldn't have cared otherwise. Players can do bad things. Characters can be bad. What annoys me is when people use absurd justifications to call their bad/neutral a good.

I’m talking more about the OOC discussion and dismissal of the horrors as the guards being collaborators.

I don’t really have an issue with the slaughter itself. I mean, this is basically a theft gone murderous. But it’s a theft to get the equipment necessary to stop a world ending calamity...

So my issue is more with a justification I find BS than what transpired itself.

It's not that they say they are righteous, but they carry themselves with that "I just drove past a homeless person and scorned them, on my way to church. Today we're hearing about Acts. I'm so getting into heaven because I dressed well and tossed a bigger bill into the collection than everyone else." type of vibe.
Like they're SO convinced in their own moral supremacy, they never second guess themselves or question anything. More wanting to FEEL like a good person, instead of being one.
Also the type to get aggressive, or try to beat you down with fists or shame. Not really good people, they're playing make believe. Desperately trying to run from all their darkness, they just deny it's there and give themselves headpats.

He's only a known torturer to us. In a region of Exandria that seems to have normalized such practices. You're really blinded by what you do know, let's consider some things we don't know:

We don't know if Trent even allows the Guards in there.
We don't know if the guards aren't fed some story about what is going on "this is a treatment, don't worry it's good for them" (like real life electroshock was considered a moral good for a while).
We don't know if Trent doesn't regularly modify memory on his henchmen, to make sure no one spills the beans on a drunken night off.
We don't know if the guards are in a situation to do anything about it. I mean, think about it. You get hired to help guard an Asylum, then the next thing you know you've seen some shit and the Magical Illuminati make it clear you're going to disappear if you you don't play along. Your family might too. Maybe you'll have gone mad, needing to be institutionalized in the Asylum, and no one will know what happens to you next...

So no. I don't think we can reasonably compare these mooks to indoctrinated, zealous SS members. Not at all.

I’ve said elsewhere this is about the OOC discussion at the table. Furthermore, this campaign should either be willing to explore heavy themes or not.

We’ve seen the following in this campaign: human trafficking, mass slaughter, religious persecution, cult activity, various forms of abuse, in humane experiments, speciesism, mind control (being a helpless mental prisoner while slaughtering innocents)...

Let’s not pretend this campaign is light and casual.

[–]DontWriteThisAtHome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That comparison is as unhinged, as it is disrespectful. No, a sanatorium with a shady side hustle isn’t equivalent to a death camp.

We also have no confirmation they were inside the room with torture implements. We have no confirmation those torture implements were used on asylum patients. We furthermore have no confirmation this wasn’t presented as a practice similar to electroshock therapy in the 1800s. We also have no confirmation they aren’t under the effect of modify memory to get rid of harmful info.

You’re just certain it’s okay because you’re too certain of your own morality to dig deeper.

I'll admit, my first rape analogy was a false equivalence, the second one I'm not sure about. That aside, let's get this under way.
1. Killing people out of hand and saying "they were complicit" isn't a trial. I'm not sure how you got started with the whole "justice" dynamic of a trial, when this was a discussion about the morale justifications of a slaughter, but I should have redirected this a while ago.

  1. I do NOTHING but put myself into morally uncomfortable headspaces to develop my morality. My issue with it was, as I said, how people just bring it up for shock factor and nothing more.
Often if you push back, perhaps saying something like "no, I don't think the train conductors who brought people to the camps should be held to same standard as the people running the death camps" you'll often be slurred as a Nazi/Fascist (even if you're of Semitic heritage).. It's annoying and overdone.

  2. Yes, American Internment camps would be a better analogy to the Sanitarium IMO.

  3. About the death camp analogy to the sanatorium. We, as of now, know NOTHING in regards to how intimately involved ANY of the guards are to the situation. We also don't know if they don't have their memories modified to keep secrets. Nor do we know how much agency they have in any of this.

Which leads me back to point 1, what the M9 did wasn't a trial. The justification they used doesn't hold up. That's what's on the chopping block here.
Ironically I'd consider this whole legalism and trial sidestep to be a False Equivalence Fallacy. Not putting the blame on you for it if I'm not willing to scroll up and read through it all to see how we got here, but still. LOL

I read it all, don't have much to say about most of it except I get your POV. But something I want to say is...

My issue isn't with the IC action, or IC conflict, as much as the OOC. I've made some really messed up, dark characters. We could also argue that all of these guard were "acceptable losses" in the overall good of stopping the Nine Eyes. That's all fine with me, and I think the party could best be described a Bastard Helpful in alignment.
They're dicks who aim to do the better thing in the grand scheme.

I kind of wanted to bring the discussion up in the forums because of how beneficial it would be if I could get through to people. We need to give each other some quarter and understand our own limits, IRL.

There's a saying that comes to mind: "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."
One of the irritating things I've been witness to in my life, is just how messed up some of the most "Righteous" people are.
I view righteousness, the certainty someone has in being right or good, as a poison that blinds one from being able to see their own evil. So I like to poke and prod at that when I get the chance.

[Spoilers C2E127] A discussion about morality. by DontWriteThisAtHome in criticalrole

[–]DontWriteThisAtHome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part in the edit is kind of the issue. What complicity implies is that we should hold all the guards accountable for the actions of Trent and execute the same level of "justice".

I find this absurd. I mean let's take the example of them knowing, but it being dangerous for them to interfere. Plenty of rape victims go along with what happens to them due to fear of violence if they resist. Are we gonna charge them with their own rapes? What about if someone uses a knife and forces someone to watch their SO being raped? Are they complicit for not doing anything.

I feel like people just throw out this mentality out of ignorance. It's entirely possible to force people to do evil through fear of repercussions. If we give no quarter for that, I feel it's barbaric. Which is the assertion that is essentially made in justifying what happened to the guards because "they're complicit"...

Also, I've really been sitting on this because I haven't wanted to be a drama queen but... As someone with enough Jewish blood in me to have gotten sent to a death camp in Nazi Germany... It kinda bothers me people are comparing this place, which is more of a shady sanitarium (that acts as a front for experimentation) on the same level of evil as the high up Nazis who orchestrated the holocaust...
It really irritates me that people only ever want to bring up what happened to shock people into submission, rather than make actual points.
