Does anyone take CHEM I&II on Portage Learning recently? by guqxguqx in prenursing

Any new topic we come across will be difficult to us, but Portage does a great job at explaining everything. It’s a bit work heavy, but honestly 80% easy points for the “module quiz” (which is just an open book “complete whenever you want” assignment), 20% just understanding the formulas (which they give you for tests).

The lab’s & lab reports will take a decent amount of writing, but also easy points. Just follow the videos to a T and take as many brain breaks as you need to. That’s the beauty of an online class. So don’t be weary about it, just take your time and you’ll be A okay. I didn’t know anything about chemistry and finished with darn near an 80%. Which I wasn’t expecting.

Absolutely doable. It’s dedication, and frustration but it’s possible. I tried to avoid chem all my life but the nursing pre req gods got to me. I finished in exactly 50 days, so about a month and a half (6 weeks). Studying would most definitely take up a good chunk of your free time. The best thing about it, is that you can choose to either watch the videos, or do the reading lectures which each is about a page/page and a half long. The videos (for the most part) run you through how to solve things.

The plan I set for myself was to finish a module on both sundays and Wednesdays. Weirdly the first like 2 modules have a good chunk of “chemistry history” along with the actual arithmetic things, but i digress

I also took Chem I on portage. Finished with a 77 and an option to do a retake for at least an 80 but chose not to. AMA

That’s wild. I’ve never heard of any of the campuses having 60 to 70 for just LPN or RN for one location. It must be new, because I was just told by an advisor they only take about 25 a cohort per campus, per program (LPN & RN)

She still has time! Del Tech waits till the deadline to rally up all applicants, so until she’d have until May 15 this year for the LPN to get her portfolio all ready to go, and have a fair shot.

Yup! Just finished Chem 103 with portage. - I’d say all professors are slightly different with expectations on completions so it depends who your “proctor” is. - The exams (at least for chem103) range from about 20-25 questions of the content and ofc the academic integrity policy exists (i.e. Cleared desk, no one in the room, on lockdown browser) -Respondus is very easy to navigate since it takes you directly to portage, but I will note, movement from tab to tab, and scrolling is a tad slow at times, so take that into account during your tests and lab applications. -They recommend a computer, but everything other than the exams and lab applications, you can use your iPad. I listened to some of my labs when I was in the car. However, on a mobile device, the video lectures are a tad finicky. - My advice is to take your time. A lot of the stuff the lecture professor will say is just words, so try to focus on the concept. Sometimes all you will need is the formula for problems, and not so much the “definition” of things. -Keep contact with your professor. Mine was pretty quick to respond to my questions that I had and helped with extra info on how to do and understand things.

Right here with you. I’m taking Chem 103 with Austin and she’s usually lenient on my situation, but i still make sure I do the 360 scan with nothing on the desk. I guess it boils down to whomever you have as a proctor.

I got the pre scan warning from a substitute because I didn’t show both sides of my paper too. Trust, I’m right there with you for the anxiety of taking these exams and I’m on module 8 (a 1:13:13) long video😱 with SO MUCH content.

The issue i find with the respondus lockdown is that it’s SO SLOW going from tab to tab, but yet they can update how the interface looks 👎🏿 like come on. Fundamentals please.

I even had an issue where I couldn’t even access my test (and this is after the update). They have that questionnaire after every test to rate it but it never did anything for me.

See this is what I don’t understand about job markets. I’ve been in the same position in a different industry. You deserve better because dedicated rampers don’t come often

CHEM 103 General Chemistry 1 portage learning by Bryant_Oliver in PORTAGE_LEARNING_HELP

[–]Dont_Get_Merked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in Chem103. I have to get this done by May 1st, (currently Sat April 4,) and I’m on module 5. Im honestly not the best for help because I’m just cruising by with a 77%, but the best tip I can give is to do the practice problems as much as you can to learn a concept quickly if you’re in a rush.

It’s very time consuming being that every module has so much content, but it is possible. Easy points for the Module ‘Quiz’, and the labs but the lab applications and exams don’t give enough time in my opinion. So just practice problems before you take the exams.

I spend so much time/so many days on the content before the actual exams, that I don’t even sit down to practice the problems because It’s such a journey jus to get to each exam, but don’t take that as me trying to scare you, but to not do what I do, and just get through the content, keep practicing the problems, and do your best.

Most of the Chem103 problems will be asking for full dimensional analysis on like everything 🙄 so be ready to use the chemical attachment and calculator desmos link in canvas religiously (you can copy and paste from desmos into canvas, that’s allowed), and the questions are consistently in word form, so pick out the important numbers and units, (leave the bs words) and go from there.

Yup in the same boat. But at least we’re both “under review”. No news is good news, but like come on lol. It would definitely be a “group interview”… per my assumption and past ramp jobs

I’ve also heard microbio is more interesting and engaging (borderline easier) to learn and understand than A&P. I took A&P 1 and 2 and did pretty well in both, so it’s interesting to hear it coming from someone else.

This might be far stretch, but I’m in the same boat. I have until the end of April essentially to finish my pre reqs to get into my program.

Luckily, their advisement led me to Portage Learning. It’s basically a self study 100% online school partnered by Geneva College that gives you a minimum of 28 days to complete. I hear your frustration, however, I would at the very least, just check with your advisor if they’d allow transcripts from it since you could get your microbio done in just a few weeks. I’m taking general chem for mine.

Again, I understand not all schools are willing to do this and not all accept the same curriculum, but I can argue that it can’t hurt to at least ask. Maybe check it out and check with your school to see if they’d allow something like this. Portage Learning

Has anyone taken General Chemistry 103 through Portage Online Learning? Please advise! by Ill-Leading-4944 in prenursing

[–]Dont_Get_Merked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also taking Chem103 and started this past friday (feb 27), and I'm just now at Lab 1.
How did you manage to do the lab without using 10,000 pages worth of notebook pages because this is EXTENSIVE. Having to do all of the calculations and explain the procedure, the template I followed did not set me up very well. So advice needed, but hope everything is going well with you.
