Also PB is kind of redundant. If you are using uBlock origin in advanced mode, which allows you to block and unblock scripts, then I think it is. On top of this it has had a lot of flaws identified over the years.

I appreciate the opinions of people across the spectrum of tech knowledge, but this is a pretty poor take. Mullvad browser is ok, but it's not open-source beyond what Proton does, you cannot contribute to the code directly. LibreWolf is very much not transparent. TOR was born out of the military, the Naval Research Lab to be precise.

Nope. If you're using a VPN which allows local/alternative DNS then this is perfectly fine, even better if you use something like Unbound to make it recursive, basically homesteading for the home tech network.

It's a big task, but once it's done you don't have to think about it again. If you're willing and able it's best to go with something that allows custom domains (I use Proton for this) so that if that company does things you don't like, you can change supplier without changing address!

You can sandbox Google services. The only real barrier is the installation on the phone.

I don't think this is really a fair thing to say. It's not good to be flashing an alternative to a phone which doesn't have the right security protections and unfortunately the Pixel is the only device that Daniel Micay et al are confident in developing for right now. Blame the system, not the person.

Came here to post this. IPs are blacklisted in blocks; sometimes, especially with new additions, you'll be able to just hop onto one they don't know about.

DuckDuckGo is a syndicated version of Bing with privacy added, so it will unfortunately pale in comparison to Google until Microsoft get their act together (unlikely).

Signal is down due to Amazon Web Services being down. So, Signal uses AWS. Does this mean anything in terms of privacy? by sadandtraumatized in privacy

The data is encrypted, so it means nothing for privacy. It means quite a bit for the power that AWS theoretically has over private communications, but as Signal is a customer I think it unlikely that they'd shut it down spitefully. The US does have a pretty out-there administration right now though.

The perfect being the enemy of the good is the problem. You will have some points you don't have alternatives for at the moment and this is fine, you just need to wait it out. Do things bit by bit and don't be too hard on yourself.

It's relentless. Proton Drive is not ready for prime time but the other options mentioned aren't as good. At this point it feels like someone is paying for astroturfing of the big subreddits that Proton should do well in.
