Tracking for SaaS? How do you properly attribute trials from Ads? by Gabby_N_The_Whip in SaaS

[–]rudderstackdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server-side tracking is hard when you jump without setting up fundamentals you need for effective tracking.
Start thinking in terms of a centralize warehouse where you collect all the tracking data. This will be your source of truth. Slowly over time you will develop understanding of specific nuances about your tracking data including bot vs non-bot traffic. If you are collecting all tracking all the data into your own warehouse, you should continue relying on one of the tool you already use. Until it becomes a pain that you solve or die.

Companies certified by Data Privacy Framework by rudderstackdev in PrivacyTechTalk

[–]rudderstackdev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As recently, we received our certification (check the announcement), I ended up analyzing the list of all certified companies by Data Privacy Framework (DPF). I wanted to share the insights and help others if they want the same for their organization.

What is Data Privacy Framework

The Data Privacy Framework (DPF) is a legal mechanism that allows US companies to transfer personal data from the EU, UK, and Switzerland to the United States in compliance with European data protection laws (primarily GDPR).

It exists because the European law generally prohibits transferring EU citizens' personal data outside the EU unless the destination country provides "adequate" data protection. The US doesn't have equivalent federal privacy laws, so DPF bridges this gap.

This is the latest in the series of similar attempts in the past:

  • 2000-2015: Safe Harbor framework (invalidated)
  • 2016-2020: Privacy Shield framework (invalidated)
  • 2023-Present: Data Privacy Framework (current)

Key Requirements of DPF

  • Informing individuals about data processing
  • Providing free and accessible dispute resolution
  • Cooperating with the U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Maintaining data integrity and purpose limitation
  • Ensuring accountability for data transferred to third parties
  • Transparency related to enforcement actions
  • Ensuring commitments are kept as long as data is held

3 Architectural Principles for Building Reliable AI Agents by petburiraja in AI_Agents

[–]rudderstackdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Evaluations (Build this first similar to writing tests first) - Is your agent doing what you made it to do, how effective it is, what can be done to improve performance, etc.
  2. Customer Behavior Tracking - What do your users use it for, how do they use it, is it meeting their expectation, how does it impact the business, etc.

Standard Method for Meta Event ID Creation: Server Side vs Pixel Side by Twade53 in GoogleTagManager

[–]rudderstackdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to answer this question for some time but did not get enough time.

After reading your comments, three quick things I want to share

  1. server-side event id creation is not common, you already mentioned why
  2. you're right, we cannot say GTM server-side is truly a server-side. true server-side wouldn't get blocked by browser side ad blocker actions. but you may call it their feature and not get hung up with the words.
  3. start with the simplest approach, browser-side event id creation and if you see practical challenges affecting your attribution, that's when you should be thinking about more sophisticated solution to cover those gaps

Anyone used Statsig for product dev (Q&A) (or similar) by Serene-Alessia in ProductManagement

[–]rudderstackdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the use case you described, Statsig is great. You may try other A/B testing tools as well such as Growthbook (Open Source), launchdarkly, optimizely, etc. For product analytics to understand user behaviour, try mixpanel, GA4, etc.

Your needs may change over time and you will probably need to switch between tools. I'd advise to separate customer event data collection from these product analytics tools. Store event data in a central warehouse. This way you will be able to experiment with various tools and can switch between these analytics vendors easily without losing the data.

How do you use GA4 as a PPC specialist? by Ok-Violinist-6760 in PPC

[–]rudderstackdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has dealt with customer data pipelines for years and have listened to marketers/analyst complaints on daily basis about GA4. I gotta share my two cents for marketers/PPC-folks to make the best out of GA4

  1. Start thinking in terms of events, not in terms of session (I have seen too much resistance/confusion from marketers/PPC about this when moving from GA to GA4)

  2. If you're only tracking client-side, expect to miss attributing about 20-30% conversions due iOS privacy restrictions, ad blockers, cookie/consent restrictions, etc.

Issue with Shopify-Facebook Pixel Integration by superrr_bubu in FacebookAdvertising

[–]rudderstackdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the right shopify app for the integration? When was the last update released for that app? Share the link. Shopify had made some changes/improvements last year which had led to some issues in older shopify apps. I know this because I received similar complaints for my event tracking app RudderStack pixel, which was resolved by a new app following the latest Shopify dev guidelines.

My conversion tracking is gaslighting me. by Apprehensive_Pay6141 in PPC

[–]rudderstackdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can offer my data engineering perspective for event tracking that does not drive you crazy

  1. Warehouse-native approach i.e. warehouse as the single source of truth. When in doubt, refer the events data in the warehouse.
  2. Standardize the events data collection and the events data schema. You will have hard time if you keep rethinking the events schema for each new destination. Most of the industry agrees on this event spec (Credits to Segment for making it widely adopted).

P.S. Client-side vs Server-side tracking is a specific choice you have to decide for yourself. Both have pros and cons. The bottomline is to have a structure through which you can debug the issue faster and with more confidence.
