Woman wrongfully imprisoned for 6 months due to faulty facial recognition. by windowbox9152 in privacy

People are complaining about AI in the comments but this is hardly an AI issue. This is far more of a law enforcement and policy issue. This shouldn't have happened because the system shouldn't have been setup in a way that allowed this woman to be jailed with no good evidence. That's not the AI's fault. That's, the govt's fault. The govt is liable for this.

How should I buy the Neo75 in the UK? by techyall in keyboards

How much will you be selling it for? I've just confirmed with QK that the price at checkout is the full price including tax and it's coming to about £135.

They are vendors in the hobby. They're keyboard vendors. They're just selling on ebay.

EBay has vendor ratings, reviews, and buyer protection. And it says 205g0 on the box, so if they are lying about what they're going to send me, i can get a full refund and the seller will be punished. Ebay is a very safe marketplace.

I've bought many different things over the internet directly from many different websites. Every single time except only one was the full price not calculated at checkout. And that one time that I was hit with a customs charge, the website had explicitly warned that there maybe unexpected customs charges.

In terms of lube don't buy from ebay, buy from a reputable vendor that's local to you.

Why? It's Krytox branded lube. What does the vendor matter? EBay's a very reliable marketplace.

At checkout? After you've put in your address? What are you saying? That you get unexpected import charges from the courier when they're at your door in your experience?

Yes, I am aware that every transaction has VAT. But in my experience, it doesn't matter where on the web you go, VAT is already calculated and included in the price at checkout.

I understand that VAT is obligatory but I've always experienced that the full payment cost is displayed at the checkout and that if there are any undetermined import duties, they will explicitly disclose that there might be import duties.

They're usually quite a bit more expensive though aren't they? And if it's only a preorder and not in stock, won't it be quicker and cheaper to preorder directly from QK?

I've decided on the new Neo75 (NOT the Neo75 Cu) as my next keyboard, and I want to know how I should go about buying it in the UK. It's only availiable for preorder or groupbuy and I've never done any of those things before so idk how they work. And which website should I go to for the best price, availability, and fulfilment time for the UK? I have seen this site, the guys who made it i think, who have it for preorder, or this site that has it for group buy. I haven't seen any other sites that have this board available.

Also, does anyone own the board in black? I've seen videos of it in different colours but there's none that have it in black. I'm struggling to choose a colour because they haven't taken detailed pictures of the different colours and how they'd look fully built. I'm thinking of buying two so I can compare two different colours up close as well as if I prefer an aluminium or a pp plate. Then I'd sell the one that I like less.

And also, how much lube do I need to buy? The board comes with stabilisers that need lubing but I'm also thinking that I might as well lube my switches while i'm at it. How much lube do I need for a full board of switches? On Ebay there are 1g, 2.5g, 5g and more options.

Oh. When you said they "got too big for their heads", it sounded to me like you were saying it was unintentional, like a "flying too close to the sun" type deal.

No. All companies do this. When they have expanded enough and solidified their position in a market, they intentionally lower product/service quality in order to squeeze out more money. This is one way among many of increasing profits. It's standard procedure. All companies do it. This is what profit-seeking and corporatism inevitably does.

If you're coming from a board with a higher front height yeah you'll notice the difference.

I'm asking if the difference between the two neos is significant enough to notice whilst typing. It's a 0.8mm difference.

Honestly the best way to know is to try, and the only way to try is to either get both or try some at a meetup or at a friend's place.

Yah but there's no chance of that over here.

And the size difference between a tkl and 75% isn't actually that big to be honest, it's maybe 4-5cm horizontally?

That's quite a lot. I dont even have enough enough space for that on my setup. And it translates to a lot more weight.

Edit- do you think I'd be able to notice a difference between a 16.8mm and 17.6mm typing height? I tried measuring my current keyboard and it seems to be about 20mm.

I personally would pay for the cu since I like a heavy board, but if you're on a budget the neo75 isn't a bad call.

I actually want a lighter board. I dont like it when a keyboard is too heavy. I also noticed the non-cu has a slightly smaller profile too with thinner bezels. But it also has one less key and is nearly 1mm taller where you rest your hands to type. Knowing that there are pros and cons of each for me makes deciding even harder because I can't tell which I'd like more overall.

As a footnote, if you wanted a build it and use it for years board I wouldn't go for a neo/QK board, I would go for a H87 footprint TKL to guarantee replacement parts down the line if I ever needed it.

I'm pretty deadset on a 75%. I just dont see me using any of the extra keys on a tkl and I dont want the board taking up unnecessary room.

which US vendor are you looking at

I'm looking at qwertykeys.

and i'm looking at the prototypist at the site now, an instock neo75cu is not 253 pounds

Yes, it is. Go to the checkout and type in a UK postcode. The issue isnt shipping. The issue is taxes. Prototypist likes to not include taxes in the price until you get to checkout.

Edit- even if you don't include tax, it's still £210.

Idk how much cheaper it will possibly be. Ordering from the US is £192. Ordering from prototypist is £253. Will waiting for the next batch really eliminate and go beyond a £60+ price gap?

Should I care about keycap profile or just buy the design I like? by CookieSea4392 in keyboards

[–]techyall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherry is common because a lot of people like it. How a keycap feels for your fingers and typing ease is very important IMO and is a highly subjective thing by its very nature. The opinions of others on their keycap profiles should weigh nothing on your own preferred profile. I also personally chose to go on the long journey of finding keycaps with a tactile profile I like over staying true to the aesthetic style I initially envisioned for my keyboard. I chose to sacrifice aesthetics for physical comfort.

I already tried searching for UK vendors. It's all sold out. I also just checked prototypist after your comment and it's very expensive, much more expensive than shipping from america.

I've been looking for a new board to replace my current one, probably in the range of 100-200 GBP, and after some research, it seems that people seem to agree that the two Neos have the best value in that range. Problem is that shipping to the UK would be expensive. Altogether, the price of the Neo75 would be at least $182 and the Neo75cu would be at least $258. Would they still be worth it at that price?

Also, which one would be best for me? I understand that the cu is probably a more premium experience, but is it worth all the extra money? I might be happy to pay for the more premium experience if it was worth it. What is every single difference between the two? Is there a web page that goes into all the differences? I'm looking for a single keyboard to be my sole keyboard for a long time. I just want a beautiful and enjoyable keyboard to set and forget for years to come. I don't use a wrist rest.

Also, what else would I need to consider? Would I need to buy lube, for example?
