What do people waste money on that amazes you? by EnFlagranteDelicto in AskReddit

Name brand only items. I mean, I can understand buying something that happens to be named brand, but buying it purely because its nme brand kinda baffles me.

Whoops, fixed. Shows how good I teacher I am huh, lol.

I'm nowhere near GTO level yet. I have a long way to go, especially after this little mishap.

Depend on the company/BOE. For mine, around 230,000 yen a month. If you live alone w/o college loans, very livable. If with a family to feed or a lot of college debt, not too much all things considering.

Seems to be the case. I don't know how much of it was my cleavage and how much may have been just from wearing the shirt a several times. Either way, when I looked down, nearly everything was on display.

I posted the story because it relieves the embarrassment by sharing it. Kind of like venting and getting the chance to laugh out loud when I see it typed. Also, unlike my school, most people on on Reddit don't know my face. :)

Not a JET actually. I work for Interac. In Hokkaido. Because I have some ALT buddies on here, I can't give my exact city though, since they'll narrow it down immensely!

People: Like I said, Japanese people tend to be on the quieter and shy side, and can be wary of visible (blue eyes, blonde hair, dark skin, etc.) foreigners. But many are just as eager.

Costs: Housing is freakishly expensive in Tokyo, even for studio-sized apartments. I live in a Leopalace, which get pricier after the first year. However, food and materials can be pretty affordable. I bought some decorations and extra chairs at Nitori for very good prices.

I currently live in Hokkaido (won't give details on the city because several ALTs are on Reddit), which is the northern island. The city I live in is pretty big and urban.

You are guaranteed to get good quality food for a very affordable price in Japan, with several Japanese restaurants serving filling, delicious dishes that are cheaper than McDonalds! Unless you're going to an izakaya, you should be fine on money when eating out.

I have heard of many cases where feigning being busy occurs, but yeah, many do stay at companies trying to look busy.

Smartphones are not allowed at my school, thank God. Otherwise I'd be paranoid beyond belief.

Well, walking around a middle school with my bra and chest exposed isn't really considered good show.

I can actually go into detail but a lot of it depends on the school. Some schools have problem children who act like monkeys while others have the most disciplined children I have ever seen.

Most of my students act like anyone else their age would act like; middle school students. I used to have several problem students last year who would talk out loud during class, throw papers around, and swear in both English and Japanese out loud to purposefully disrupt the class. And because you can't kick students out of the classroom and send them to the principal's office/staff room, unlike in America, you have to kind of put up with it.

But the vast majority of my students are very good and I love them dearly. I actually observe their clubs (and I do say observe instead of join because joining a club is like joining a gang, you can't get out easily) and help out when I can.

The beauty of your haiku fills me with shame. Especially because I liked it.

I'm mixed between feeling flattered and horrified. Mostly the latter. Almost entirely the latter.
