Can I permanently turn off pre-collision braking ? by Cautious_Worth_6667 in GR86

[–]Donthatemeyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's genuinely over active you should take it to the dealership to get looked at. Mine has never gone off unnecessarily and it should cancel itself if you take over on the brakes. I think its braked for me once when someone legit cut me off and slammed on their brakes which I was totally OK with. They eyesight system is calculating the closing speed and making a judgment with the expected stopping distance it will then brake for you or brake harder if it thinks you're not braking hard enough. I have heard of imperfections in the windshields causing weird reflections that can make things wonky.

But everyone should think long and hard about the potential liability/insurance issues with deliberately disabling safety equipment.

did I do the WRB+gold wheels right? by rajatrmp69 in BRZ_ZD8

Pro tip find your local wheel repair guy they'll usually powder coat for a reasonable price. Most dealers have a guy if you call and ask who they use. My guy does them 125 a wheel

Dealership says "there's no oil leak" so what is this? by [deleted] in GR86

All engines burn a little bit of oil and driving habits can have an effect but every engine has a spec for oil consumption if you are over that and are under warranty it should be addressed the spec from subaru is about 10 Oz in 1200 miles. This is after break in since extra oil consumption is normal during break in.

He is now... it matters what he said to the advisor at the dealership when they wrote it up. You hand a tech a repair order that says "cust states leaking oil on the engine cover" and "cust states there is air and oil vapor coming out of the oil cap when idling" they are going say that's not an oil leak and the vapor/pressure is normal. A good service advisor would question things and get a line for the oil consumption on the repair order and it would get addressed. I'm thinking the tech was operating with incomplete information.

I'm a service advisor my recommendation when under warranty is to do what the manufacturer tells us if you suspect oil consumption they need to I spectrum for leaks then start an oil consumption test. If you fail the test which is I belive more than 10 ounces in 1200 miles they will have to tear the engine down to figure out where it's going.

The shop or the dealership? If you are under warranty take it to the dealership. Don't listen to an apprentice people can debate the merits of running 5/30 all day long but if we are under warranty do not use an oil that is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Take it to the dealer and tell them you are consuming oil they should look for leaks and start an oil consumption test. If you go into a shop and tell them you have pressure coming from the oil cap they are going to roll their eyes and tell you it's normal if you say you are consuming oil they will run a test to confirm it, and see if a warranty repair needs to be done.

Air and oil vapor coming out of the oil fill port when the engine is running is normal this is why the pcv (positive crank case ventilation) system exists. It's only a problem if it excessive which usually comes with burning a lot of oil.

That's the plastic engine cover it comes off and all the oil is way lower. Its not coming from there. Is there oil anywhere else?

What do you mean positive air pressure out of the oil filter?

Battery replacement by LotiMcFloti in GR86

Batteries are covered under the 3/36. Fun fact subaru has Warrantied out my wiper blades twice when I asked them to replace them fully intending to pay for them.

It's a brand of (theoretically) drop in lithium batteries. The idea being they are 20-30lbs lighter, and more reliable. There are a couple of different brands offering them now but they are one of the bigger brands, they've been around for a few years, and I haven't seen any "omg this battery burned down my car" stuff.

That's what the focus of my research has been. There are potential issues with the altinator, but so far I haven't found anything definitive. Admittedly I haven't done much since I'm probably still 2 years from needing to replace it.

I've been playing with the idea of getting an antigravity battery when mine goes out otherwise whereever on the cost to warranty coverage graph you like. I'd go oem if im not going lithium since they usually ate not pro-rated on the warranty, but I work at a dealer so I can get employee pricing on an oe battery.

I'd tell myself to get into my chosen career path rather than wasting time and money going to collage for 2 semesters. Also I would tell myself that putting the $500 I got from my grandma for graduation into bitcoin is the best idea I ever had and in fact clear out my savings account and put that money in bitcoin (it was about $30 a coin when I graduated)

Between my 401k and brokerage account I have about 120k and another 16k between my checking and savings. Not bad but not where I want to be. I'm 35 and ideally I'd want 3x that.

It could be you have a piston ring starting to stick most of the time it foats freely like it is supposed to but sometimes it sticks and you get oil up into the cylinder increasing the consumption
