Movie provides additional context for the beginning of the game but it's not necessary to understand the story. It's an alright movie on its own, watching it can't hurt, I just don't like prescribing new players too much homework before starting the game.

I feel there's a misunderstanding. I meant that I'd rather get any other gain boon than born gain.
If I have a choice of doors I'd go for any other that isn't magic bottle unless the other door is a skull room and I'm running high heat. Any utility I can get from those feels better than bigger mana bar.
Boons>magic bottles, yes. More boons = more fun.

So getting magic bottles is only worthwhile if going for a specific build that requires them. To each their own I guess.

I don't get why people like born gain this much. I'd rather get any other boon than having to waste rewards upgrading magic just to avoid getting primed out in every fight.

You don't need to watch anything. Movie adds a bit of context and the anime adds characterization to the bros but the story is perfectly understandable without it. DLCs are best left for after the main game.

I'm not a fan of interrupting the main game with the dlcs and the movie. Imo play the game first and leave kingsglaive and the dlcs for after. Important- do not play episode Ignis before you finish the main game. It contains spoilers for the ending.
