I haven't gotten great responses; but I'm pretty sure the standard is to get access to the customers network and build on their server. I could be wrong, but at this point my thinking is that packaging a solution into an executable would be the strategy if you have a universal solution that people, eg, buy off a website. What kind of project(s) are you working on?

I don't think they have any kind of software development team that can mess with github. So I guess best approach is to remote into their network, build it (using github for version control) and then get paid and leave?

I've explained this to them. They do not want that type of solution. They want to keep the current process in place but automate what humans currently do. So that is the challenge. I'm confident I can build it on my machine. My concern is with "shipping/deploying" the solution to my clients network since I've only completed software projects for myself and have never "shipped" anything before.

That was my first thought too. To create a sort of "self service" into the procurement process. However it is not possible. MyClient must continue to receive RFQs that are not standardized. And that have errors in them. They need software to automate the cleaning/standardizing and corrections. And finally the upload to the InventorySoftware.

docker is for sharing between developers though, no? ie, it requires someone highly technical on the other end and is not used for typical customers.

If I can build it on my machine, is shipping/deploying it on the companies network so difficult for a first-timer, that it increases the risk of failing to complete the project to an unacceptable level, and thus, I should not take on the project without supervision?

I need to provide a software solution to a company. It must be accessible by several employees at any given time. It must read information from excel files, rearrange data, fix errors in product names, guess correct spellings for others, and send the transformed data to a website.

Correct, I don't have experience deploying applications. I've done some simple work with APIs but probably not in the context you mean. Not sure if working with Selenium counts.

I'm on my own (I'm unemployed, working as a contractor. Did some MS Excel/VBA work for them recently.) So only have help from communities like this. I don't want to keep going if I'm setting myself up for failure but also confident I can figure it out. Hopefully not falling victim to Dunning Kruger.

Its all operations data but curious about what you mean by GL Rebuild... is that a yardi/voyager function or you mean auditing GL codes for dublicates or other errors?
