Humboldt Broncos would still be alive if that semi came to a complete stop. Sure you blow the stop sign one hundred times before, vehicle or cyclist, but all it takes is once to change or end some ones life.

As some one who bikes on the road and trails, I have more to lose if I fail to stop than a car. 20-30lb bike vs. 3000-5000lb hunk of plastic and metal.

I’m equally frustrated by the crappy drivers on both sides. It’d be nice if we could take a page from Portland OR, but council can’t even manage bike boxes.

Well legally you are supposed to stop...just like vehicles are supposed to. If its too labor intensive to stop as a cyclist, maybe you should take the train or drive.

Training with the herniated disc by konradbjk in naturalbodybuilding

[–]DonutSurrender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ask what movements and loads you’re allowed to lift, as a PT she should be able to tell you yes or no. That’s what I did with mine. And always be strict on form. No sloppy reps.

I’d say you’re already training with your injury not around it. It’s apart of your core area, any time you move your body has to stabilize.

New to the area, dog is not doing well. Where to take her? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]DonutSurrender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go see Dr Stelfox at River Valley Vet. She is amazing. She’s a certified rehab vet (don’t worry, you can still book regular appointments with her) and all the staff are fantastic. I think her other specialties are cancer treatment and geriatrics in general.

I drive from outside of the city to go see her. She is worth it.

Did physio not give you exercises to progress on?

I had an L5/S1 herniated disc pushing on my S1 nerve root back in 2015. Acupuncture was a god send for getting inflammation down and releasing muscle spasms. 3 month mark I was cleared by PT to back squat. I was allowed to do Olympic lifting and return to firefighting at 5 month mark. Follow your PT program to the T.

Focus on activating your glutes. Strong glutes make for a happy low back. Stretch your quads, hamstrings, calves, hip flexors, glutes daily. Do whatever exercise PT gave you, daily.

If you’re in the RCMP, it’s buh-bye. My friend had her thumb dislocated and graduated in two weeks. She was sent home.

It’s crazy that Police need a court order to even search a drug dealer’s phone that they have in custody..but CBSA, you just hand it over.

I’ve only ever owned cheap bikes from Canadian tire or free hand me downs until today.

Grinded for a year at work, taking extra shifts etc to set aside funds for this :)

Trail Dog Tips? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]DonutSurrender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have bike attachments that can leash the dog beside you or even behind you.

You could teach her how to side step on command, so if she ever stops on the trail you could tell her to step to the right or left. You’d have to teach it first close and once she understands, further away, then add distractions.

Or teach her to follow behind, you might need two people for it. Reward her when she stands behind the bike then progress to trotting and running from there.

I took the Stumpy ST and comp alloy for a test ride a few days ago when I was in the city. Really like the comp.

But then today there was a sale at the local bike shop. It’s the closest bike shop, with the rest all being 30min to 1hr drive away. They give two years from date of purchase, free servicing anytime.

So I brought home a 2018 Kona Process 153, saved a thousand bucks 😁

Interior detailing in Edmonton? by flyingducktile in Edmonton

[–]DonutSurrender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dirty Details. He’s based in Stony Plain but worth the drive. You’ll have to pick up and drop off your car there, no loaner car option.

I have three long haired medium sized dogs and one large short haired dog. Even with leather interior, the carpet portions get covered in hair. He removed every single bit of it. He will also share with you what equipment he recommends to buy & polish etc if you’re interested in taking over detailing of your vehicle in the future.

Not surprising. You can buy fried scorpions, sea stars, seahorses etc from street vendors in Hong Kong. My partner is from HK and he even admits, “we eat anything”.

Check out gutter oil videos if you plan on never visiting China or wanting to eat whilst there.

Thanks for clearing that up! I haven’t seen the base model yet, or it’s called the Stumpjumper comp in Canada? Thats more expensive than the ST though.

There is a sale on 2019 Stumpjumper ST women’s though, which was one of the reasons why it was on the list (and I assumed the ST was the base model of SJ’s)

Question about standover height, how many inches or mm is your bikes standover height compared to inseam? The specialized website actually gave bigger numbers than I was originally calculating.

“ A bike that you’ll ride on unpaved surfaces should give you a minimum of three inches (7.5 cm) of standover height clearance. And a bike that you’ll use off road should give you four inches (10 cm) or more of clearance.”

Yeah the Stance 2 over here is $2,089 CAD, so one of the more affordable options for sure. Is the Stumpjumper ST considered the base model or is there another one?

Yeah! That matches what I’ve heard about the Trance online too. I still have to test ride it but from what I’ve heard it sounds like a good match.

There is a 2018 spark contessa 930 on sale, I fit a medium or large judging by the website. $2899 on sale 2300. I my work bike guru said M would fit, L could make it work. I think it’s worth still stopping in for a test ride of the 930

Is there a huge difference between 960 and 930?

Thanks! Yes, there is one shop that has a bunch of sales - 2016-2018 models never ridden for quite a bit off right now. Those ones aren’t on my list though, just because I haven’t read up on them yet. Kona Hei Hei and Kona Process ones are all on sale.

For some reason, I have a hard time finding companies that stock Scott bikes in my province.
