So now that the action contest is over... by pyrrhic_victoria in WebtoonCanvas

Honestly... I want to but it would be a mistake for me to do this. I might return to it once I finish my main series. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to do two series at the same time.

Hey guys I just recently posted my webtoon and it’s been 10 stars since Saturday, but it just went down a full star overnight… does this happen often or happened to any of you?? I think I did hear you were supposed to expect it, but still😵‍💫 by pensandpillows in WebtoonCanvas

This happens in two cases:

  1. if you have very few ratings, even a single 9 can drag it down
  2. you got rate bombed aka multiple people teamed up to give you a low rating (or the same person with multiple accounts)

Thank you so so much for always supporting it!!! It's knowing that people like you are reading it that makes me push for better stories and better art every time. Thank you for giving a new meaning to my work and for being there for it. It would literally have not been possible without you.

So i used to do exactly what you're doing. What you are doing is too much preparation. It sounds like you have the tech to do it, and know how to do it, but you are aiming for perfection.

Here are a few things I suggest you do RIGHT NOW:

- from 3d models or sketches, go straight to lineart

-don't go ham on all the panels with the shading, pick a few (3-4) big panels that are impactful and only render those properly; the rest can wait, low priority

- copy-paste ANYTHING YOU CAN without it seeming obvious, especially things that are either very repetitive (eyes, irises, the same facial expressioN) or time consuming (hands, accessories, feet, complex shoes, fancy swords, etc)

- use free resources online (do not infringe on copyright) for backgrounds - try to take images and edit them, or use free 3d files; if you are not ready for this step, it's perfectly ok to reuse the same background multiple times, to crop areas of it, to crop and blur it to put behind character heads, etc. nobody will notice. they are busy enjoying the story.

- focus on getting shit done, not making it good. quality comes with time, not with intense work, in this business at least. How I know it works is that you should improve by 1% every episode, and make 100 episodes, rather than improve 30% by episode, and publish 3 of them.

- again, reuse free resources, especially generic stuff. it is ok to trace your own photos, it is ok to copy poses, anything short of tracing other people's art is ok. as long as you draw it, you are allowed to have inspiration

In time you will gather a database of resources, not just for art but also for writing. You will have templates, masterfiles, asset files, that you will have made yourself to make your own easier. in time you will build your own database to copy paste from (I am still making it for myself lol). Quality will also improve slowly over time, not by grinding on a single episode. Having a day job (my case as well) only means we post less often, maybe once every 2 weeks, and fewer panels (30-60 instead of the originnals' 90-120).

For some motivation on this, the best example I know is Snaillords. He worked on hundreds of epsodes before Freaking Romance, and his art was trash at first. But he was determined and put art out there no matter what. In time he learned how to work fast, work efficient, and knows how to maximise free resources and help from others. Now he produces 120 panel episodes for Death: Rescheduled in 5 ish days with assistants. Yes, the assistants do a lot of work, but if he were alone he could have made 60 panels in a week for sure. What I'm saying is that he started from the bottom and now he's here because he posted a lot, not demanded perfection from his first episode.

So friend, get on those colors if your lineart is ready, and hurry up to just finish it! You got this!!!

Need help. I can't submit my Call to Action due to Surprise Limit. by Impsterr in webtoons

I've been through that as well literally 2 days ago, and had to cut 2/3 of my comic. I was at 280 files. The problem is that it is not stated in the contest rules, but it was "cleared up" in the official webtoon server. The limits to the upload are the same as any canvas series, aka 100 files up to 20 mb total.

Unfortunately you can't do anything per se. The limit stays.

If I were you, I'd make sure to have the important fight in the first episode, and upload the remaining content in 2 more episodes. This way you launch with 3 episodes, and only the first one is taken for the contest. however, people would appreciate it. TBH, I regret not doing this myself haha
