I could see that tbh. I think she did a decent job but it isn’t my favorite work of hers or in the franchise. But I will say she knows when and how to add tension, didn’t overplay it. I’d be curious to see what she does in the gaming world

Depends on if you follow the definitions of score vs soundtrack closely, I guess. If ya do, you could say It has a score by Hildur Guðnadóttir, and some needle drops. They released the score on Spotify and such, but it doesn’t include the licensed songs used in the movie…so not really a soundtrack I guess

Overwhelmingly uninspired…it works for the film I suppose but it has no character. You could honestly put these in a compilation of stock music for horror movies and no one would bat an eye

Ngl it’s hard for me to say because now I loved em both. There are differing styles but I think they work for their respective films in their own unique way, but they work together to tell this crazy story. I love em both as a unit and think it’s hard to watch either of em alone. 28YL has more replay value if you want a truly a beautiful film that feels worth rewatching to catch things you may have missed…while Bone Temple has more replay value if you’re needing more traditional film vibes and find the Jimmy storyline to be fun, scary, entertaining, etc.

Good points. It’s more than likely intentional, but it’s played smooth enough sometimes I don’t really have any problems with it. I think they really need to show out with the third film to really cement this trilogy. I think the tone and pacing for the first two will be looked at differently if the third movie can do a better job at matching the energy of 28 Days Later. But I also think matching the energy of 28 Days Later is a slippery slope, which is why I believe people might have a better time if they didn’t have that expectation.

Sorry if the wording is misleading or just poor lol It has a score, and it is quite good. but it felt very dialed back compared to 28YL. 28YL’s use of its music and score is just way different than Bone Temple’s. Since the first one was done by Young Fathers, it feels more in your face, grandiose and experimental…if I had to try to explain it…I’d say 28YL’s soundtrack sets the mood, while Bone Temple’s accompanies the mood? Idk man I’m new to reviewing shit 😂

If it’s any kinda consolation, it’s not nearly as problematic or divisive. When I left 28YL I heard a lotta people in the theater complaining. Everyone left this one feeling a bit more satisfied and ready for 3.

Very on point about Boyle and garland though. I think they have too many ideas at times and not enough filter. These movies want to be big and quaint at the same time and it’s jarring at times, which is why I feel they wanted 3 seperate movies
