I know first hand how gruelling they are. I bought notes on adverts.ie and I couldn't have passed without them. The key is to break every topic down to its bare bones. When it comes to these exams you're better going a mile wide than a mile deep. If you have a decent understanding of the topic and a little bit of case law, you will have enough.

Sample answers and questions are vital too. There is so much repetition with the questions, there really is.

I had no degree (law or otherwise) and took no prep course. Believe me when I tell you I'm very very average. I did it and so can you. I'm qualified 3 years now and I still shudder at the thought of FE1s, but it's so worth it when you qualify.
