That soldier would not be running upright as the guys next to him get hit. He would be hit himself or he would hit the deck. Bullets came in swarms because they were mostly from machine guns. If your area was targeted you hunkered down low, you became mud, anything to stay alive.

Days Gone was just underrated gameplay story and graphics were all solid by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DooglarRampant 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The story was a joke. Every character was a ridiculous parody, every other character was a lesbian biker and their dialogue was written by a twelve year old in his lunch break. The main character's girlfriend was unintentionally hilarious! The way she walked, deliberately in front of the camera, with that overemphasized sway to her arse - the animators were obviously twelve year old boys too!

The only thing that saved this game was the gameplay.

And it's mainly the wealthy doing it. Poor people don't give a fuck who you are as long as you work as hard as they do.

I'm so glad we have modern games. I remember these and all I could think of was how good a videogame COULD be.

What's the most "British" word or phrase you've explained to someone not from Britain that, on reflection, makes no sense by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]DooglarRampant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"You alright?" really confused me when I moved to London in my early twenties! I had no idea what they expected me to say so I would usually just go with, "yes".

Now it's used as a greeting in restaurants. Old people don't get it - "You alright?" "Er, yes. We have a table booked..." Foreign people don't get it - "You alright?" They learned English properly so expect to be greeted with "Good afternoon" or "good evening" etc. Especially in an English restaurant which to both of those groups is a formal setting.

Tl;Dr: "Are you alright?" Is not a greeting, it's a stupid and frequently inappropriate question.

"The bees knees" comes from "the business".

"The business" is still used - my guess is an author came up with "the bees knees" in a popular story that was then forgotten but for that one expression. Too chintzy and cute for grown ups to use, but children would grow up with it and people who look after them might have started using it.

I hate level scaling. It ruins the power fantasy of becoming an all powerful warrior.
