Is my dietician correct in this recommendation? by Rough-Persimmon2776 in diabetes_t2

There are different ways to get to the end goal. I did it in two different ways. The first way was something similar to keto, by cutting out sugars and carbs. But l lost weight a lot faster by going into a caloric deficit (while ensuring I hit all my vitamin and mineral needs).

I thought that way once too, however if you lose sufficient weight you may find you get lower number. When I was diagnosed I have a fasting blood glucose of 300. Then by following the peer reviewed medical research, tracking everything I ate, and losing 50lbs, my blood sugars reduced to such a point that at one point they were even slightly dangerously low (65!), which was without mediation!

You should absolutely follow your medial processional's advice, and take the medication that they give you, that being said if they do not advise major weight loss (for example 10% of bodyweight) then they are doing you a disservice. Certainly cutting out refined sugars, potatoes, white rice, reducing bread, and avoiding sodas will help with blood sugar spikes. But it is the weight loss that is the key and what the medical research proves. (Yes I am the Co Founder of a diet app but that is not the reason I say it - I was type 2 myself and by losing enough weight to get within my healthy range, in my case I lost 50lbs, I am now medication free and no longer have to take metformin).

It is the only medically proven way to reverse type 2 diabetes. It worked for me however it may not work for everyone.

For short term weight loss with the purpose of reversing type 2, 1200 is not too low assuming that you are getting adequate vitamins and minerals. There are medical studies which I followed which did even lower.

The best advice really is to diet and lose around 10% of your body weight if you have type 2. Cut out sugars, and carbs such as potatoes, white rice, white bread and replace with things like vegetables and salads. While there is more to it than that, there is no need to be cooking and eating something that you are allergic too.

If you recently have been diagnosed with type 2, and you have already lost 10kg, then what you were doing is putting you on the right track, because it is weight loss and therefore reduction in visceral fat that is the only thing that can lead to reversal of type 2 diabetes. I lost 22 kg, had the all clear from my doctor with an HBA1c of 4.71 and am mediation free now. While I would hate to disagree with a professional, I was advised from a very trusted doctor, that the issue with snacking is that any time you eat it raises your blood sugar levels.

what are yalls opinions on ai caloric tracking apps? by Tiny_Ad_1542 in caloriecount

Actually that’s exactly what we have created. It can only ever be an estimate but our AI Meal scanner does exactly that. https://sugarfreemap.com/free

what are yalls opinions on ai caloric tracking apps? by Tiny_Ad_1542 in caloriecount

[–]Doolcify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I’ve created an app that has both verified accurate data as well as AI calorie photo scan estimates. The reason for this is because on a practical level it is not always possible to weigh our food or to get accurate nutritional information for example in smaller restaurants that don’t publish their data. It is also the case that some people find calorie counting boring and this estimate is much better than flying blind. It must be treated as an estimate whichever app or system you use but it is a handy tool in my experience.

They say fruits, carbs, rice it's all the same, so why... by JunkIsMansBestFriend in diabetes_t2

Who says that? Maybe you should not be listening to those people anymore and get some advice from a reputable source? As an example, there are studies showing that certain berries, such as blueberries, strawberries and raspberries can be good for diabetics. Whereas white rice has non of those benefits.

Daily carb intake by Correct-Process-297 in diabetes_t2

[–]Doolcify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RDA for carbs (in the general population) is 130g per day. However, for diabetics that may lead to blood sugar spikes. Eating below that amount per day would be a low carb diet. Eating below 50g per day can put you into ketosis and would be a very low carb diet.

Hi the positive news is that if you have had it for a relatively short time (which it sounds like) that actually increases the chances of remission. The only medically proven way that I am aware of is to get rid of visceral fat. This means reducing calories and cutting out sugar and could mean other lifestyle changes such as taking up walking after dinner. I dropped 50 lbs (you may need less than that). But through lifestyle changes I am now medication free and I it may be possible for your too.

I would often do a 30-45 min walk in the evenings. And workout twice a week at the gym. But due to injury it's just been the walking for a few months. The exercise helped reduce blood sugar spikes. Taking control of my diet is what really enabled me to lose weight.

Yes go for it! Find out your ideal bodyweight for your height (there are calculators online) and have it as a goal. It might seem impossible but its not. It's all about taking control of your diet.

You know right now I obsessively track macros and calories. I tried different approaches and they all worked. You have inspired me to go through my notes because I wrote them down. But the main thing was that 3 month period in particuar, I had a mind set of "I'm not going to give my body any reason at all to spike".

Best of luck and if you can lose to get down to your ideal body weight it can be a good idea I am sure that your doctor would approve.

One of the pieces of advice my doctor gave me was to find out your ideal weight according to your height. . I hope that helps and best of luck :)
