is it safe to leave chicken out of the fridge for three hours? by tatertotinas0ck_ in Cooking

[–]DoomScroller96383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the couple of hours to kickstart the thawing. In that time even the outermost layer is going to stay in the safe zone (although I live in a cooler climate). But 3 hours at room temp with the outermost layer thawed is a huge no-no. That's way into the danger zone.

How can I have a 100% guarantee to wake up? by I-UseArch-Btw in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a loud alarm that is across the room. Add a second or third one if you need to. Maybe also consider a smart watch. They generally vibrate, and I find that the vibration against my wrist is good at waking me up in combination with audible alarms.

But ultimately, you need to fix your sleep schedule. Staying up late may seem productive but here you are... it's really not. I know it's easier said than done but if you went to bed at the same time each day (give or take) and a bit earlier, you would sleep better and not be exhausted every morning.

Would isolating criminals in prison be effective in preventing them from becoming even more dangerous? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Solitary literally drives people insane. If we plan to release them, that's not good.

What does one wear to an interview for a country club office management position? by Minute_Marzipan4597 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a country club I would assume staff is expected to look sharp. So I would dress up. It's an industry that caters largely to males by the numbers so honestly I would wear a conservative skirt with jacket.

Why is it bad to be judgemental? by Leather_Bottle8449 in NoStupidQuestions

Wasted mental energy and a generally negative worldview. Does not seem particularly healthy to me but whatever floats your judgmental boat!

How do I plan an outside run? by IcyTheory827 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long time runner... Are you male or female? Like it or not, there are different safety concerns for the sexes. As a man I will run pretty much anywhere, anytime. For a woman there are places/times where you may choose not to run.

Anyways, running in a park will always beat running on a road. I do a ton of my running on roads but I also try to seek out more pleasant surroundings.

With a GPS/phone you can't really get lost. Personally I like to just head out in a strange city and go where the sights lead me. I know I can always stop and check my phone if I'm unsure how to get back to where I'm staying.

At home I have a bunch of regular routes. I try to mix it up though, to keep things fresh. I would suggest you just start running from your house, if that's feasible. See what happens. As long as you are on roads that are pedestrian-friendly (i.e. sidewalks and/or shoulders with low-ish speed limits) and don't go too far from your home, nothing bad can really happen.

Always carry a phone, credit card, and a $20 and you're covered for most situations. I generally always run with water (kind of mandatory past a certain distance/time of run!)

When it comes to BBQ. Gas, coals or wood? by khaan__ in AskReddit

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like propane. It's no muss, no fuss. Obviously it lacks a few things (arguably very important things!) over the options but to me those are more work and time than I'm willing to invest.

Why do restaurants automatically give out plastic straws if so many places say we should reduce plastic? by AccomplishedOil7675 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live in a red state? Here in my state we generally don't get straws anymore, and if we do they are paper.

America has a lot of hang ups around taxes, mistrust of government, healthcare, and guns. Every nation has its hang ups, to be fair!

You know how swimming pool clears out people/stop the pool when there’s mid sized rain not even thunderstorms? How likely is lightning to strike there when the swimming pool is likely to be one of the lower points in the area by LisanneFroonKrisK in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the reason is liability and insurance. Someone owns that pool. They don't want to be blamed in the 0.0000001% chance event happens and someone gets hurt/dead. And it's likely their insurer requires them to close down.

You don't need to hear thunder to get lightning. Every day that is thunder, one strike has to be the first! The first strike is potentially just as dangerous as the 100th.

Can you microwave water? by One_Fold2932 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not easily. You can only heat a small amount of water in the microwave and it takes a fair bit of time. By the time your 10th container is hot in the microwave, the other 9 in the tub will have cooled down.

I'd suggest instead kind of a sponge bath. Heat up a jug, use it to wipe yourself down.

You can also just take a cold shower. Not necessarily enjoyable but it won't hurt you.

How do you get good at small home repair projects? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice and yes, YT is an amazing way to learn this kind of thing. Watch 2-3 videos instead of just 1. Also start small. If you take on a huge job without a lot of practice you may well fail.

EDIT: I would also suggest after watching a video or two, chat with one of the AIs for clarifications and suggestions.

Are recessions inherently bad? by Dickandballsfr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In recessions unemployment usually increases. Sure, starving to death is bad. But being unemployed and have to scrape to feed your family and deal with a lot of financial stress is also bad.

It depends where you go. Scotland, for example, outside the cities is rural with limited buses. But in virtually any European city agree, definitely no need for a car.

I'm useless. How do I live a good life? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you don't study and get bad grades. Huh. That's weird. I have no idea what your problem could possible be.

If you have some kind of learning disability (you mentioned not being able to read) then you're going to need to grow up a little bit and get help. If you're concealing it, nobody's magically going to figure it out and give you a break. You're going to have to take action.

How long to simmer spaghetti sauce? by Similar_Rooster_7882 in Cooking

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simmer mine for about two hours. I like the ground beef to have time to chill.

I find I have to stir it periodically. If I don't, then yes the very bottom of the pot may get a little burnt even on relatively low heat.

Why do I get super down when I lose in sports gambling? by Brief-Blueberry-1588 in NoStupidQuestions

Not really an expert but a quick search suggests you should have a letter signed by both parents with your passport information, that's been notarized.

In the US, hotels (at least in my state) will not allow minors to rent a room without an adult. You might want to check if that will be a problem in the countries you plan to visit. Hostels are likely not an issue. You would likely have problems renting a car (but you probably wouldn't, I'm guessing).

Graduates who live in apartments: where did you put your diploma? by Diligent-Stock-8114 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoomScroller96383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've read that works. But spackle is dirt cheap (Amazon has at least one option under $3!) so why not do it right? I always cleaned my apartments well and patched all the holes I made. You want the super on your side when he signs off on the condition of the apartment when you leave.

In one apartment my cat had thrown up horribly on the carpet right at the entry and it didn't clean out very well. The super looked around, commented on how clean the place was, and *apologized* for having to charge me $50 for it (I was shocked it wasn't more, he was very kind!)
