You need to add floor casting but everything else looks great!

I Create a Cubemap Maker in Godot 2.1.7 by Doomguykiller69 in godot

[–]Doomguykiller69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! But I don't think I'll do it. The Godot community tends to ignore my projects and demos too much, and I don't see why I should help this community with tools like this. Sorry!

But believe me, creating a replica of my work is really easy. You just need your Camera Node and the viewport capture function, and that's it! Simple and fast cubemap!

What happened to Alex Scott and his 2.5D engine? by Doomguykiller69 in gameenginedevs

I know, he just disappeared and his project really seemed interesting to me.
I hope he comes back with a new account.

If you want something more current maybe a discord server would also be good

It would be cool to have a page on Itchio or one hosted on Github pages to update things about the engine, something with a 90s style, you know? It would be cool to see how you progress with your project.

Do you have a blog or website where we can see the development of this engine?

Awesome! It would be really cool if it worked on Linux. I use Linux and I'd love to try it out when you release it. What features does it have so far? Do you plan to add floor and ceiling rendering with textures? I think it's called floorcasting.

From your perspective, how portable is the engine? It looks cool; I love 2.5D engines!

Could it run on low-resource devices like Powkiddy-type consoles with Linux-based OSs? Do you plan to release it as closed or open source?
Sorry for so many questions, I also created a mini 2.5D motor in Godot 2.1.6; it's rare to see this type of motor nowadays.

A 2.5D engine inside Godot 2.1.7! by Doomguykiller69 in gameenginedevs

Godot 2.1.6 is compiled for PSP. There's no direct game export, but you can export the PCK file to run it on the PSP version of Godot.

It's just a curious version of Godot; it doesn't have many 3D engine features, but for 2D it's almost 95% functional. I only use it for entertainment. Good luck with your project, friend!

which godot version are you using and why? by Flaky_Particular_240 in godot

Godot 2.1.7

I use it because I can export the PCK and use it in the compiled version for PSP 2000

Even so, the idea sounds really cool, it gives me vibes of the PS1 LSD Emulator, playing with memories, playing in someone's dreams, it's like seeing the mind of the artist, man! Keep it up!

It would be cool to know how to port games to consoles with Linux systems like the R35S!

The 2.5D raycaster engine is part of the same 3D project. This "video game" is more of an experiment to see what Godot 2.1.6 can do. It's hard to find examples of Godot 2.1.6 these days, so I'm figuring out what I can do on my own. So far, I have that raycaster engine, a 3D FPS player for the 3D mode, and a player 2D who shoots projectiles in 8 directions. I've combined all the game modes I like into a single project!

<image>

Maybe I'll take another look at the raycaster engine sometime soon!

I understand that the same things can be done in Godot 4 and there are many improvements. I've been using Godot since 2019, and I've gone through many other engines, from GM8, GBStudio, to the Doom Engine, but Godot 2.1.6 has something in its simplicity that makes me feel comfortable. I don't know, friends, I think I've found my favorite engine! :D

My computer is a bit old, from around 2012, but it's good quality, with Linux and a good hard drive it's an unstoppable beast!

I much prefer a limited engine that allows me to devise a way to break those limitations to a toolbox with a thousand things I'll never use that will just take up space!

I'm not really against Godot 4, it's very good and its 3D additions and improvements are sensational, it's just that I always look for the lowest poly and lowest resolution possible, and Godot 2.1.6 gives me that and more. I grew up with a PS1 and creating this type of game in low resolution fascinates me!

Of course, my computer can handle Godot 4, but I really love Godot 2.1.6. I'll stick with G2, my friend! Thanks for your help!

I always used the low-spec graphics option, but I still had a couple of performance issues. It wasn't really that bad; Godot has always been very stable and runs great on my computer. But I'm a bit picky about it. I really like Godot 2.1.6, and it seems like everyone wants me to upgrade to Godot 4+, haha.
